QOTD: last wine was Zonin 2005 Valpolicella Classico purchased from the winery near Verona…serious thunder for a relatively low price of 8 Euro…gotta love the Baby Amarone!

  • Hey GV – I made my first visit to the Wine Library last Friday (from Baltimore) not knowing you weren’t in town!! That cheese shop is out of this world and overall I love the layout of the store. I took a glance in the “cellar” area and even picked up a 2003 Viñedos de Páganos Rioja El Puntido from in there (as well as a few other things I found on the shelves!). Great stuff man, guess I’ll have to make another pilgrimage in the near future.

Great show – I feel your pain on the weakness of the US Dollar – my November wine trip to Europe is going to cost an arm and a leg – perhaps it’s time to head out to Napa instead!

QOTD: 2006 Altos Las Hormigas Bonarda Colonia las Liebres which was purchased from the Wine Library following your review – great QPR, I gave it an 86 on par with your 87.

Hi Gary, sorry about the QOTD but I won’t tell you because I don’t want to get this winery promoted in the US. Don’t even know if it’s available, but it’s a good QPR white Burgundy. Yes, correct there is such a thing… but at the current exchange-rate should be close to 22 $ in the US.

Still tremendous pineapple, caramel, walnut and a salty minerality on the palate. Ah well.

  • VinoVixen

    Welcome back GV.
QOTD: Tyrus Evan 2005 Walla Walla Syrah. Unfortunately, it brought more alcohol than thunder! I am hoping it has mellowed out so I can have a sippy sip when I get home today 🙂

  • Hi Hary, nice to have you back and looking so refreshed.

QOTD – Last wine, and still currently drinking it, is the Cremisan Vin Nouveau 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, from Israel (although technically it’s the Palestinian territories, near Bethlehem). Not a pazz, but not that Thunderous either – raspberry nose, very fruity and a hint of sweetness. Really smooth mouthfeel, and more raspberry. Very little dryness or acidity – it’s reasonable as a simple wine, there’s no complexity, just lots of fruit.

  • Who the hell’s Hary?

Nobilo Sov. Blanc, last night when I rolled in at 10pm. My finacee had left me a half glass from her girls night. Have to say, good nose, worth the 8.50 just for the smell.

Great show, lots of good energy!! The last wine that I had was CARPENÃ? MALVOLTI PROSECCO DI CONEGLIANO CUVÃ?E BRUT. For me it brought the thinder at just over $13 Canadian and a nice sweet dry balance. Great to have you back.

Gary Vee must have just put down a couple of shots of espresso, he was amped. Nice work today, bummer none of the wines rocked.

QOTD: 2005/2006 Syrah by Montes Alpha. I love the 2005 and tasted it next to the 2006, similar but the 2005 was much better. The 2005 always rocks it, south-of-the-border style.

The last wine I had was the Chateau Dereszla Dry Tokaji you reviewed sometime in the last 25-40 episodes. I brought it with me to a dinner party and managed to impress a Polish dinner guest who was certain that there are no good Hungarian wines.

Wow…almost 500 posts? Someone certainly made some friends as SXSW.

I better learn to be quicker on my draw.

    Itsas Mendi Bizkaiko Txakolina
    2005 vintage
    Varietal: Hondarrabi Zuri
    Basque region of Spain

This wine is currently bringing the thunder to my palate. A little New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc-like in the nose. Some cruciferous vegetables and lemon cream in the nose. Nice acidity. Getting ready to try it with some mahi mahi and coconut-lime rice pilaf.
