Monday I had a Albarino by Salneval. It was outstanding at $12. Tanzer gave it an 88 and I agree.

QOTD: 2005 Enzo Boglietti Barbera d’Alba Roscaleto. No, it didn’t bring the thunder…

3/17/2008 rated 88 points: Decanted two and a half hours. Color is very dark purple with some ruby, similar to their Dolcetto Tiglineri. Nose is showing some dark fruit, tree bark, and fennel seed. Mouthfeel is very modern, showing lots of dark fruit. Finish is fairly short and showing quite a bit of the generic fruit, and some bark, with light dryness and light tannins. This is fairly delicious, though not complex and definitely way too modern for my palate. Tastes like it came from California, not Piedmonte… I am a fan of Boglietti’s Dolcettos, but the Barbera has gotten a bit too new world for me. Fairly disappointing, and definitely not worth the $25. However, it is all about perspective. If I thought this was a $15 wine from California I’d have said it was quite good. Blind, there’s no way I’d have guessed what it is.

Latest Wine, Chateau Meyney 2005, today.

It is absolutely beautiful, nice blackberry fruit, good acidity,
nice soft tannin and long leather notes on that tanin. Pure soft blackberry
and cassis fruit. Delicous. 90+/100

QOTD: 2005 Chateau Clos Chaumont. Good QPR and not too bad for a Bordeaux I’ve never heard of. A little closed on the nose but I did get some nice red fruit, medium bodied with a dry sour cherry finish.

A few days ago I had the Ercavio Roble 2005 Tempranillo that you tasted on #260 and it brought some thunder for me. I got blackberries and currants mostly and really dug the long finish.

QOTD – 2004 Baron Philippe de Rothschild Merlot. Still half a bottle sitting on the counter since Saturday, so no, not so much thunder.

Last wine was 2005 Dunham Trutina, and it was like a little black cloud hanging over me in an otherwise blue sky, so just a tiny bit of thunder.

Great show…glad to see you back and energetic. QOTD The last bottle I had was about 43 days ago (Fat-Tuesday) Gave up wine for Lent…it was a 1998 Ornellaia…and it brought the Thunder and then some.

QOTD: Four Vines 2005 “Dusi Vineyard” Zinfandel, Paso Robles. Very nice. Had it at their tasting room. Didn’t buy it, but I did buy their “Biker” Zin. Their Naked Chard was good too.

QOTD: mt hermon white- blend of chardonnay(,zinfindel?) and cab franc

it did not bring the thunder and was a pazz but there was nice popcorn and it was 2.99 for a half-bottle

QOTD: Bogle Phantom. I thought it brought a good little bit of thunder. I’ll probably stick with my Bogle PS if I’m going down that alley again, but it went well with the rotisseried (is that a word?) tri-tip.
