  • QOTD: I’m not even sure! I tasted so many wines last night, it was Chateauneuf-du-Pape night with my tasting group, but we had lots of off-theme wines as well!

I think my actual last wine was the ’05 Seghesio Old Vines Zin, a 1/2 bottle that I brought as an extra little goody. And yes it certainly brought the thunder. But not quite as much thunder as some of the other wines that people brought… including an ’03 Pegau CdP, an ’05 Clos de l’Oratoire des Papes CdP, an ’05 Finca Dofi Priorat, and an ’85 Warre Vintage Port… wow what a night.

  • Matthew R

QOTD: 2003 Tenuta Friggiali Rosso di Montalcino Not a bad wine. For $24 bucks I wouldn’t say quite bringing the thunder, but not bad!

  • Dominick Mack

Just finished off a two-day bottle of 2004 Calistoga Cellars Napa Cab.

The montages (not sure that’s a word) were fun, but welcome back! I had the Freakout last week, so it was way fun to have you taste that today. I thought the limited nose was due to my limited experience, but maybe I know more than I thought!?

QOTD: Last Friday the Vermont crew had our first ‘Third Thirsty Thursday’ tasting (close enough- work and kid schedules…) with 4 Oregon Pinots (Erath 05, Patricia Green Croft 06, Ken Wright Elton 05, Owen Roe Sharecroppers 06) and one French (Domaine Drouhin 04). The Patty Green brought the thunder for me, the Owen Roe for the hub.

The last wine I had was a Prum 2004 Spatlese, I wanna say Wehlener Sonneheur. Real tasty, could have easily lasted another 10 years. Pretty much perfection in a bottle.

Also, welcome back gary, good to see your enthusiasm again!

Welcome back Gary, we missed ya.

QOTD: It was a 2006 CdR at $10.99 I picked up at a local store. I can’t recall the name of it though. As you might have guessed, it was unremarkable.

Good to have you back, Gary.

QotD: Well, right now I’m drinking the 2003 Domaine Chapelle St-Joseph Vacqueyras. I’ve been into the Rhônes lately. I’m liking it, probably in the mid-high eighties point-wise.

  • Chris Bartell

The last wine I had was a Yellow Tail Reserve Chardonnay. It was such a pass that I didn’t even finish my glass. Sometimes I have absolutely no idea what my parents are thinking when they buy wine for a dinner party.

The last wine I had was Pellee Island 2002 Reserve Pinot Noir and I wouldn’t say it brought the thunder but I also can’t call it a pass. I am kind of on the fence with this one.

  • ChardonBob

QOTD – The last wine I had was a 2004 Muir Hanna Pinot Noir. Interesting wine with lots of spice and acidity but not a thunder wine.

    Good to see you’re back!

QOTD: Homemade vino (Pinot Grigio) that I enjoy quite a bit…but the last commercial wine I had was a 2004 Errazuriz Max Reserva Cab Sauv. For the price, I would say it brought the thunder…mildly? Certainly not a PAZ though.

  • Plminer

    Welcome back GV!
QOTD: 2003 A. Rafaneli Zin, holy crap was this good!

QOTD – Only because of you my friend – Ash Hollow 2006 Gewurztraminer from Columbia Valley. It brought the thunder. Now send my my wristband!

BTW, I’m devestated! I can’t come to the blending even though you picked my name tonight. It figures that I finally win something but have to be at trial. Maybe I’ll get to finally meet you on March 29th.

Thunder on, Gary and welcome back.

  • So excited you are back and SO excited about the new secret packs! I love twitter and I am following santagary.

QOTD: I had the 2005 NORA a couple of nights ago. It is starting to warm up here in AZ so I will be breaking into more whites. I really liked it!

  • QTOD: Red Diamond Shiraz (2004) It was pretty good for 8 bones. Stopped at Trader Joes last week and just grabbed a bunch of random bottles of wine, this one was pretty good.
