Wow, nice show. I love Cornas too, but prices are steep. I had the good fortune to taste a dozen 2004 and 2005 Cornas at a wine shop in Paris. Free tasting of $50-$100 bottles! They were ALL stunning, and that was my intro to Cornas.
Fixin? Very good red burgundy for affordable prices. Still have 1996 and 2002 in the cellar. Last had Fixin about 3 months ago.
Quincy? For the money, I’d rather stick with Sancerre (white). Last had Quincy about 1 year ago.
QOTD: How ’bout free shipping on wines reviewed on the show? I’d be in for the $40 Cornas Granit 60…

Side Bar 1: Not attending–must work.
Side Bar 2: Probably not had those varietals.

QOTD: Keep doing what you’re doing. I’m happy and entertained by WLTV.

  • QOTD: “Dream Team” 2005 Bordeaux half case or full case under a certain price. Maybe under $300 half case and about $500 full case. I’m looking for some solid buys that I can hang on to for major events over the next 10 years or so. Thanks, Gary!

  • QOTD: Garagista wines would be cool. Good idea, torquey.

I’d like a show on helping me pick the best wines in the store. When I go, I know that I want to try something new, but when I’m looking at four different Greco’s and I can only get one, which one do I pick?

QotD: I’d like to see one episode where ONE wine being sampled has been decanted, chilled, and left at room temperature. This could be a cool experiment for a Laid Back Friday while you’re answering questions, or for another Secret Pack in the future.

Take one wine — any varietal, any region, any color — and get three bottles of it. Chill one bottle. Decant another bottle for a few hours before taping, and open the third bottle at room temperature during the episode.

  • You are already doing it. You have answered dozens of questions for me. You bring new or little known wines. What else would I want. Ah Italian Rosatos at Wine Library. Still looking.
I drank a lot of Cornas in the past but stopped because they take so long to age into something great and the investment keeps going up and up. I mean Hermitage is as big or bigger and that investment keeps going up. As to Fixin, of course as it is the cheaper version like Santanay of Burgundy and often crosses into the Beuajolais price ranges.

  • Ask not what Wine Library can do for you. Ask what you can do for Wine Library.

QOTD: I had Fixin this past Friday night at my Pinot Noir party!

Cornas is tasty goodness too! Can’t wait for Gary to feature Tavel on The Thunder Show!

    Anxious to try Cornas.
QOTD: You’re pretty much doing it. Loved the wine bar episodes and home storage – nice to see what other people are doing in their homes and in their wine bars.

    Hi Gary,
Very nice episode on Cornas which I like a lot. Here in Lyon, 100 miles or so from Cornas, the wines are still pretty rare and expensive. Fans of “new style” Cornas should try Matthieu Barret’s wines (domaine du Coulet), very modern and enjoyable even young, less oaky than some of Colombo’s wines like Terres Brûlées (he uses only 7-year-old barrels or older).
QOTD: Well, keep educating… and entertaining everyone here. It’s so much fun to watch your show. Maybe you could use this book about the pronunciation of wine-related foreign words you got some time ago a bit more often, but it really doesn’t matter!

Qotd: You can recommend a wine to go with watching a NBA death match! The young and energetic upstart team of the Hawks head to the future World Champion Celtics’ Arena up in Bean Town, USA tonight for a battle royal 80’s style. I’m thinking that Cornas would be the ticket…

And yes i have had a Fixin and i have also been to Fixin…absolutely beautiful!

Darn it Gary! Why can’t I buy wines from you? What’s the deal with WI? I can’t find these wine anywhere either. It’s rough being a Wisconsinite sometimes.

Great show – I’ve been curious about Cornas for a long time. I bought one a few months ago, but it was a faulty bottle – : (

QOTD # 1 – You finally got me. I’ve never had a Fixin or a Quincy.

QOTD # 2 – I hesitate to respond to this one b/c you already do SO MUCH, but there is one thing that I would really like, even though I know you already do it sometimes. I would like for suggested food pairings to be a more consistent part of your reviews, both b/c that is an important question for me, and b/c your suggestions can tend to be somewhat unorthodox/more interesting than most “clasic” pairing suggestions that I regularly come across. Thanks for everything, and keep up the awesome work!!

Thanks buddy great show, keep them coming.
