Thank you. And the 2008 Petit Verdot is great too.

  • Good episode–I say it’s time for a tour of New Jersey vineyards! I visited Alba Vineyard this summer and enjoyed the wine they offered, and plan to visit other NJ vineyards in the future.

Answer to question of the day (and Mr. Mott might appreciate this): As a lifelong Giants fan, I must say Eli.

Poor, poor Ohio. It must feel awful being you. Gary…………a real stretch for the petit verdot. An 87 at that price point? I’ll take a major pass. So let’s recap Ohio. White wines……….NO. Reds? NO. That being said, I did buy some wine in Ohio several years ago. It was made in Australia. QOTD. I do know these guys are/were football players, but as I really don’t care to watch the game, I’ll take a major pass.

  • Great, great show highlighting a great state. I love the Ohioans, nice people.

QOTD: Uhhhh, you’re kidding right? You know my answer . . . Peyton, hands down.
BTW, where are the avatars that we had some months ago?

    Cheers to Da Colts!

P.S. I’m there at the cruise. Can I bring a bottle of Dom, no, not DP, and have you give a sniffy-sniff?

  • M

I haven’t tried any but I’ve heard some positive things about this PA winery:

  • The Oak Monster

    Boomer Esiason, oops wrong QB.

As a resident of Ohio I was nervous when I saw the episode title. I have tasting many wines from Ohio and Indiana and all have been terrible…that is until a friend gave me a bottle of Kinkead Cabernet about 6 months ago. I was embaressed to admit that it was pretty decent. So decent that I actually have purcahsed a few additional bottles since that time. I think it is in the $20 range and pretty available in most wine shops in the Cincinnati area for sure. After your review on the Petit Verdot I feel justified that they may actually know how to make wine in Ohio at Kinkead. I will no longer be embarassed to drink it in front of people. I know, I know, I should trust my own palate.

    QOTD:

Not a big fan of any of the Mannings, but if I were to choose one, it would be Peyton. He has the perfect combination of talent, physical gifts, football smarts, and personality to be successful in this day and age. You have to admit though, the hand “signals” and vocal “calls” he makes right before almost every snap can get pretty damn annoying.

  • Another interesting show….. a good “humor” factor, and I am glad to see an Ohio winery making some decent juice. I agree with another writer that I would like to see more shows with wines we can ACTUALLY BUY!!!!! That is what I can’t stand about Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, and Wine Enthusiast (although I read them all……..) – they spend 3/4 of their pages on these rare and obscure French, Portugese, Spanish, and other wines that I couldn’t find within 2000 miles of here!!!!! I live in Washington State, which is the second leading wine producing state in the nation with over 540 bonded wineries, and there is usually two pages, every four issues, on Washington wines. What the???? Let’s have more wines tasted that the average, or even slightly industrious, person can actually buy and drink. (*Tim has stepped down off his soap box….*)

QOTD – gotta root for the underdog – do it again, Eli!

Once again, Ohio sucks – Go Blue!

QOTD – I would say Peyton. Back in my X-box playing days, I did a fantasy-style league draft and played for about 10 seasons. My number 1 pick was PM, and together, we smashed all the QB record books… Back in real life, he (and his brother) brought misery to Patriot fans, which is always good.

Great show as always. Your intros have been getting me a little nervous lately. I don’t want to see you get carried away and wind up with your thumb in your eye.. I know you get a little excited, Gary, but stay safe. 🙂 (just joshin’ ya bro)

QTOD: Eli upset the Patriots so my vote clearly goes to him.

    yeaaa violet is back!
qotd. my favorite manning is eli and pattons mom.
i think you should double score wines from the other 46. one just on the wine and then how you feel about the price. maybe even tell them “this is a $10 wine” or whatever. as you said, these areas are just establishing themselves, therefor there prices are not competitive. people have been making wine in France since Marseilles was a Greek colony. California was annexed from Mexico in a war in the 1840’s. Rich Americans were able to move in quickly and dispossess both the indigenous Mexican and their Spanish masters, and take over the hacienda system. California’s vast modern day industrial-agricultural complex characterized by massive acreage of chemically-grown monoculture, including the vast swaths of machine harvested wine-grapes, is a direct result of this imperial system of land tenure (see mom i am using that Anthropology degree). anyway, most of the other wine producing states don’t have that advantages. Even in NY, vineyards are small, and there is a general sense that we are establishing ourselves, that we are many generations away from our goal. Here in the Hudson Valley, next year we celebrate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s voyage up the Hudson River. Effectively, our people have been here, on this land, for 400 years, but we are planning and planting our vineyards and orchards for the next 400. Many of our immigrant forefathers unfortunately lost the culture of our past, so we rediscover and create a culture of our future.

Man, Singapore is awesome. If you go, do it within a month of Christmas. It is a big celebration over there. Christmas eve is almost like New Years eve in Times Square. Oh and don’t miss the zoo if you go there.

QOTD: Probably Eli, as his wife stood in my daughters wedding (Before they was married)

p.s. hey Ohio, if wine doesn’t work out for you, that corn you grow can make some kikin bourbon! I heard somewhere you can make this thing out of wheat, oats, rye, or barley, … what’s it called … Oh BEER!
