the three best were the 2001 Lafaurie Peraguey (94 pts) – loaded with botrytis – the 2007 Climens (94 pts) – simply stellar and the 1989 Yquem (96+ pts) which was just simply too pure, too perfect. I would prefer the Climens and LP as the Yquem was so pure it reminded me of a chemical out of the chemistry lab – almost industrial levels of purity.

    Gary,

Can you get Brett on the show, I hear he loves wine. Maybe, you can do a show about wines in Mississippi! I hope he makes you better, & even if he does it will be 1 year. What was management thinking, do you improve 2-3 games and then he retires again!! 1 step forward, 3 steps back (get a new GM).

Thanks for the show Gary – I love it when you do a “quick hit” like that. Although I couldn’t hear your very charming guest very well… Cheers! Laura

    Good show!
I would love the opportunity to try a wine of this type at that age.
My closest experience was a German Riesling Auslese from 1976.
I loved the way it developed into such an interesting wine.

  • Great show Gary. Love Sauternes.

You should do a show on Monbazillac to offer less expensive alternatives to Sauternes.

mixed feelings on this post, it seems a bit as a ‘commercial”. I like to see Gary on a neutral field, really expressing what he feels and taste.

GV!!! It’s been awhile….needless to say, I don’t have Internet (yet) where I’m working at my internship in France. But it’s been a lot of fun and I’ve even showed my internship supervisor your show! He definitely was confused at first, but he liked it. Now you’ve got more fans on the Continent!

QOTD: Wish I had the access to a ’69, but hey, all in good time.

Nice little show. Too bad the memory was about to run out. These Chateau visits are always fun. QOTD: Yeah, whens he sending me some? 🙂 Then I can let you know what I think. Might need a case just to get my tasting notes right. 😉

  • Good tight episode gary. stumbled upon this one when i was doing some sauternes research.

QOTD: I would love to try some 69. I don’t have anything that old in my cellar unfortunately. I have a bottle of the 96 that I am waiting to open, here’s hoping that it is a good bottle as well as 3 bottles of the ’03 Chateau De Malle, I am gonna open those in 5 year intervals. Patience is the game right Gary!

qotd: you’ll get the email when I taste it.

We had a 1960 d’Yquem in the cellar where I last worked that was almost black. The owner thought it was bad, I was dubious. Then I found out about a huge vertical d’Yquem tasting I wish I was at that tasted d’Yquem’s dating back to the 1800’s. They had the 1960 too, which was also just as dark in color. They said after tasting the 1960 that they expected it to be good another 15 years. That was maybe 2 years ago.
