hated the guest, hated his shirt, hated his psychophantic comments, hated the fake laughter from near the camera and hated the background noise. Apart from that, Gary tried his best and for that reason it didn’t descend into the depths of a 70 point episode.

Shocking

Nice job Joe, lots of knowledge, lots of love!!

QOTD : hhhuumm…..well I think I drink wine for so many reasons. One, every experience has a new and exciting one where you really never know what you are going to get in the bottle. The company I generally share it with, the conversations, the exploration of the world in a bottle, the tremendous food it usually goes with, the answers my kids give when I put the glass to there nose…….just like you Joe, wine is everything with me. It’s the catalyst to many, many great experiances with family, friends and sometimes strangers that quickly become friends!!!

    Thanks again Joe!!!

As long as I have been more than a little interested in wine, it has amazed me. I love the complexity of flavors (especially non-fruit flavors) that can evolve from something as “simple” as grape juice. I am also awestruck by the many generations within many different cultures surrounding the growing and production (and, more recently, distribution and sale) of wine. Wine means so much to so many people on so many levels that I want to spend a great deal of my time learning about, analyzing, and working with wine.

QOTD: Because what else can you drink that is different every time you try it. I mean, under the wine umbrella, lurks thousands of new experiences. That’s just awesome!

1999 is very good in Piedmonte. If EVER a bottle were worthy of the benefit of a good decanting, and an hour or two, it would be hundred dollar wine from producers of the caliber of Bruno Giacosa. But an appropriate meal is also integral to the perception of this wine’s appeal. I say meal, and not just a plate of food because this type of wine truly can only deliver itself over the course of a relaxed (sitting) dining table, and intimate company and atmosphere, not to diss those present at the taping. I envy you all, and as a wine vet, know it was an invaluable educational opportunity, and even moreso, a blast. The setting there is simply too much stimulus, noise( and light), and go go go chase the next wine, even though you guys took as much time as you could with these nice examples. I’m not saying that any $100 plus wine is like that – Colgin, and Napa Cult Cabs in general,(and Aussie big boys too) are Fruit and Oak Bruisers that leap out of the glass and go for the jugular. You’d almost have to TRY to not like them, or try to resist drinking them right down. Fine French and Piemonte wines like (high end) Burgundy, and classified growth Bordeaux are refined, reserved, subtle, and even more gorgeous than the Napa equivalent of fake boobs. Alluring though they may appear to be, they are phony, prosthetic overexaggerated approximations at true beauty. My take is that, surely, all three of Joe G’s pick were great, and I implore Vayniacs to strike from the record of their minds, any less than stellar connotations, or inferences about Giacosa, or hundred dollar wines. Good work Gary and Joe.

QOTD: Wine is liquid life. It enhances any emotion, any situation. Wine engages multiple senses and sends them similar yet different signals. Wine is pure art in its complexity, layers, definition and subtly. So the only real question is, do I live to drink wine, or do I drink wine to live?

Great! Tremendous guest, gary… wish you would be more like your guest. Do talk more serious about wine, less pop-culture references, less show. Only content will get you the crowd, and will prove to be be interesting.

  • Great Show Gary – one of the best you’ve done. You and Joe have slightly different approaches and so you make a great team

Regarding the QOTD: Besides the feel good beverage that it is and, how well it works with food and livens up the moment, there’s always something new to learn about wine. I never get bored reading, tasting and drinking wine.

Another kick ass guest. Joe brought the knowledge and the thunder.

QOTD: The smell, the taste, the story. There is a little adventure in every
    glass.

BTW – just opened my last bottle of the Luis Felipe sav blanc from Chile
(bought half a case). Over 6 bottles it has become one of my
standard bearers for sav blanc. Thanks GV!

Gotta Love it when a Vayniac comes on with that kind of book skills. That was a lesson in what makes every locale special, and every winery special. Great show, and Kudos to Jo(e). Buffalo Represent!

That was a really great show! I drink in search of that rare wine that captures my imagination and transports me to a different place. There are precious few wines that can do this, but once you’ve found one, you are hooked.

Nicely done to both of you!

I drink wine because….then Joe G will come visit us in Seattle. 😀

OK, OK. I drink wine because I love it. I love how it goes with food, I love how it doesn’t go with food at all. I love how it brings people together, and I love how in each bottle, there is something different.
I love how when I buy it, my husband says, “MORE WINE? Haven’t we got enough?”
And I love how I will never have enough!

    Nice.

QOTD – It is fun. There are so many types of wine from different places, there is always something new to learn and taste. Tasting/drinking wine is something to do with friends and family. It has a great relationship with food. Having a nice meal w/o wine is almost like watching TV on mute. Cheers.

Man, he is SUCH a DOUCHE!!! Does he actually wear that stuff on purpose? Is that cool in Canada? And, he doesn’t know much about wine. Let’s keep him off future episodes – if only because his hair and wardrobe are so lame. Keep in mind that I am from Los Angeles…… But his lameness is pretty global.

Awesome show Joe…..you may not have Garys web 2.0 knowledge, but you destroyed his wine knowledge.
Augustus has apparently been burying his head in the sand out in LA…..he’s probably the guy in the corner at a party wearning white socks pulled up to his knees with shorts and a tight shirt that says “hi….me assh*le”
get a grip dude…..if you want to show people your insecurity, maybe head to a shrink.
