EP 571 Are You Afraid of the Dark?

The video came out a little darker than usual, but we had a fabulous time tasting wines during Bacchanalia at the Napa Valley Grille in Paramus, NJ.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2007 Round Hill Oak Free Chardonnay
2006 Flora Spings Napa Chardonnay
2006 Trinchero Family Pinot Noir
2004 Twomey Cellars Merlot

Links mentioned in today’s episode.

Good luck fighting the weather! If you happen to come to Cologne in Germany, reserve your table at Le Moissonier – the boss of the restaurant is sommelier by profession, so you won’t be disappointed by the wine list!

My wife and I have been to the Napa Valley Grille many times, love the fact that you can order flights of wine. Don’t see that too often in this area. As for restaurants that we have been going to frequently, both in Hoboken, NJ, and both BYOB, Robongi (sushi) and Anthony David’s (italian).

Hope you feel better GV. Fun show with great energy! Using the economy as a reason to drink my face off… consider it done.

QOTD: Tough question as I don’t get out too much. Ton of great places in Philly! Try Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s or Pod.

I’m missing my old favorite sushi joint in Brooklyn, Geido, but loving the food here in Sonoma. So far I’d go for Girl & the Fig. Feel better GV – I’m all stuffed up as well. Maybe we caught a little Obama fever.

Never had Roundhill?!!! Since the 1970’s, they were one of the movers in production that spurred growth of a California Style of Chard. which was spearheaded by Jed Steele at K-J. Though the Van Asperens have by now retired, I’m sure the successors hold up to their history as a more than dependable producer in the fighting varietals market.

I used to keep extra cases of mags in stock for walk-ins with parties to supply.

A little further back, to around 1990, or thereabouts, Flora’s Chard was one of the highest rated in America. The still make delicious wines, fairly priced, across the board. And Sean Garvey always did a remarkable job repping his, and the Komes’ familie’s product. I LOVE their Merlot!

P.N. in this price range is just “wine”, Napa Valley, or not. Pass.

You Didn’t mention that Trinchero’s are the dynamo family of Sutter Home, since the 1940’s.
