I’ve loved every blind tasting that Gary has done. How many other major wine critics in the world would be happy to do ‘one-take’ blind tastings? My guess is less than 1. Phenomenal

FANTASTIC episode as always with the blind tasting episodes.

QOTD: HOWEVER, what makes the blind tasting episodes so great and welcomed is that they are unique and deviate from the norm. SO, although I definitely need to devote more time to blind tastings (maybe on per month or one every two weeks), the blind effect would lose its appeal and educational content would be sacrificed if too many shows were done blind.

Bottom line: More blind? Yes. All blind? Absolutely not.

    Gary:

Next time of a blind test please do mix 2 bottles of the same wine just to see what happens!

QOTD: Blind all the time would lose some of the technical babble we enjoy during your rinse and discuss moments. Some have already mentioned it, but I’ll follow suite with the “One Blind Day” concept, like Blind Mondays or something similar. Great show, thanks for all you do.

Love the blind episodes. Focusing on the qualities of the wine rather than the brand/marketing is a fantastic format.

That said, I do love when you have guests that bring their own wines etc. Perhaps predominantly blind with an occasional special theme/format occasionally?

I think one day a week for blinds is the way to go. I love them but there’s something to be said for trying specific wines and being able to spread knowledge about the wine (such as knowledge of the vineyard, winemakers, etc.).

Although there was definitely a Cab fad (one that I htink is still pretty strong), Napa Cabs are probably some of the best wines I’ve ever had. Stack them against any cab heavy Bordeauxs and you’ll see (especially if you prefer fruit forward wines like I do) that they compare very favorably.

Enjoyed the blind cab episode, but I vote “no” to going blind for all the 2009 episodes.

QOTD: Some of my favorite episodes feature blind tastings, however I agree that going completely blind for 2009 would almost certainly become tiresome. After all, one of the most attractive qualities of WLTV is its unpredictability. One blind tasting per week seems like a stellar idea.

Fun episode. I’ve been watching since episode 500 when I decided I wanted to know more about wine. I’m hooked–the energy borught to the show makes wine drinking an adventure.

I live in Cusco, Peru, so many of the wines on the show are not available in my small South American town. As such, they’ve gone to my “To Drink List” for when I travel or return to the States. In Peru, I’m largely drinking Argentine and Chilean Cabernet, Syrah, or Pinot Noir. That said, I’m very excited to try some Rieslings, Chablis, and other wines from the show.

Any other South American / expat viewers out there?

QOTD: I enjoy the blind format, but I also love the value-driven episodes wherein I know we might find a great wine at 10 to 15 bucks–my price point as a young wine drinker. Maybe the blind format is a twice-a-week format; probably not all year in my opinion.

    Thanks, Gary.

  • QOTD: Gary part of your charm is that your always mixing things up! I think you should answer to the demand of more blinds but like others have said, don’t go for the whole year. I know its hard for you to stick to a regular schedule but I enjoyed laid back Fridays, and I think having a blind Tuesdays as someone else suggested would give the show some structure for the craziness to revolve around. That way some days we can look forward to a specific show and other days we can look forward to the unexpected.

  • bob murnane

More blind definitely. All blind, no way. The blind episodes are good but they run quite a bit longer.

QOTD the blind is cool but not for the whole year that seems a little overboard. i dont think it would last a whole year anyway .

Agree with everyone’s comments – seems like a consensus – blind is a very good approach and I would be pleased to see it once a week (not the entire year). For example, blind taste off Wednesday’s!

    Very good episode!

Great show — Couldn’t agree more about the Cliff Lede. Have had about 4 of these this year and they have been very consistent performers — great wine.
