    I know Puglia wine-wise. Great QPR as you said. BTW: There is an Italian wine varietal that has usually a great QPR, too: Montepulciano.

  • Short show. I have noticed that you keep saying you want to switch it up. I thought we would have seen the ‘double blind’ again since you were not completely happy with that episode. Personally, I like it when you taste a few wines and give your feedback. Love the episodes with guests (but not everyday). You are very energetic. I’ve seen a few of your keynotes and enjoyed them. I’ve only been a viewer for about 3 months, but I suggest not shortening the show. Keep it to 15-25 minutes and continue to taste a few wines. Switch it up? Sure, but at the same time, don’t take away what has been working for 3 years. Just my 2 cents. All the best!
    p.s. since I have not commented before, I’ll say now CONGRATS on the new baby.

    Changing formats, great idea. Can I put a HUGE vote in for the wine buyer format you did recently where you tasted 4 or 5 totally different wines and decided if you would buy them. I loved it, put a real ‘value’ on the process of tasting.

    You could even get a (super confident) rep in to be the guest as you tasted his/her wines!

    PS as a non-American, congratulations to you all on today becoming again the world’s greatest nation.

  • QOTD: I haven’t had anything from the heel. Thanks for the info, Gary. I’m looking forward to some new show formats, though I hope I can find the time for hour longs. I barely watch hour-long TV any more (and they’re not an hour with the DVR). But change is good!

    Serendipity! I went to my local wine shop Monday after work and did my typical: “Willie, I need 5 bottles of red all under $10.” This wine was one of the five. I look forward to drinking it tonight.

    Todays show was so remarkable! I had just purchased the Tormaresca Neprica (the 2007) on Saturday along with several other Italian wines. As soon as I opened up the wine library TV window and caught sight of the label I knew it was one that I had just placed in my wine racks!

    I quickly paused the video and opened the wine and for the first time I was able to sip along while you sniffed and tasted! I wish we could receive your secret-packs in Washington State so I could enjoy the experience more often! Maybe you could once again disclose a few of the wines you’ll be sampling in advance so Vayniacs can sip along?

    I could certainly taste the “Good and Plenty” licorice flavor and your notes about the soil-flavors rang true. I also noticed quite a bit of dark fig flavor/molasses cookie taste appearing well into the finish. As this is the 2007 I’ll be coming back in a few hours to see how it’s evolved.

    As I recall the grocery selling this had quoted a Wine Enthusiast 90-point score (2007). Really a nice value.

    PS – We make homemade meatballs and spaghetti sauce every couple weeks and they are fantastic! The fresh homemade meatballs have so many different ingredients (ground meat, eggs, parsley, onion, garlic, parmesan, herbed bread-crumbs) and after browning in olive-oil they cook for hours in reduced wine, tomato and sauce ingredients so they are really flavorful!

    The Gavi wines we sampled with spaghetti and meatballs this past week were fantastic!

    Been to Rome, Pompeii, Pisa and Florence. Got some wonderful wine in Sorrento!

    I like the one bottle, however I think I rather enjoy the multiple bottle shows a bit more.

    Thumbs up for the one wine review, as sometime it is difficult to find 35 or 35 minutes. It also seems to afford time to get into the wine a little more.
    Who knows where the wine came from, as I rarely drink Italian wines, but the Taurino Salice Salentino I have found to be a relatively good wine at a good price point….($13.00 or so).

    What a coincidence, I just tried this wine at a liquor store in Missouri on Sunday, and decided to pick it up for our store in Oklahoma. I thought it was pretty good too, especially for the price!

    QOTD: No heel wines yet, though I have met an Italian from Milan who says that many Italian export wine is from south Italy without being credited to that region.

    QOTD: I tried the Tormaresca very recently and my tasting notes were similar, tobacco, licorice, slightly bitter tannins, earth, etc. Another wine that is a QPR winner is the Falesco Vitiano. Both are good mid-week spaghetti wines. Regarding meatballs, my recipe is derived from Rao’s recipe and is killer comfort food.

    Amativo was one of the wines I served for thanksgiving. Beautiful mouthfeel and nose with a long finish. Mostly Primitivo but some other pugliese winners blended. Pricey tough – $30+
