phrase of the day – ‘Thunder Rack’

Love the fact that Gary is still pushing the boundaries and being inventive. He films this episode in his hotel room (the camera is high quality by the way….watch out Mott) and is as engaging as usual

  • QOTD: I can honestly say I’ve never drank anything out of a minibar. I would usually head downstairs to get bilked a little less.

That was great! Nice thinking on the spot, Gary.

  • Good format and an even better question.

QOTD: It was a bottle of Korbel Blanc de Blanc in the Shilo Inn in Brush Prairie, WA. We had just got back from a HUGE win in a golf tournament and were looking to celebrate with some bubbles. I don’t know if Korbel ever has, or ever will taste that good again.

  • Awesome. Just Awesome.

QOTD: The mini bar at the Wynn has Patron Anejo in it. And the best selection for a mini bar I’ve seen. Great for a late night drink at 5AM when you’ve been gambling all night!

QOTD:OMG, I’m way to frugal (cheap) to buy anything from a hotel mini bar. Please give all the Vayniacs a chuckle and try to remember what you were charged for that $3.50 (retail) split of Clos du Bois Chardonnay.

  • Loved the one-man show you had going there. It can be very tricky trying to do the filming and content (I do that on my show).

QOTD: Only had water from a mini-bar so nothing too exciting.

  • Aaaah! I’ve stayed at that hotel Sofitel in B. Hills–You probably paid about $40 for that 1/2 bottle-Ha!
Sofitel Hotel is nice though–they still have that chair made out of quarters in the lobby?–good location–The Ivy restaurant is not too far from there–where all the stars go to eat (and the pavoratzi hand out to get photos)…

nice work gary. next time make sure the window is in front of you or to the side, not behind you, mott knows.

QOTD: never had the hotel booze, airplane wine is more fun. got black out drunk, first and last time, on the way from boston to moscow in ’03 ( i was underage to). even had an “incident” at the munich airport.

QOTD – Has to be massive Jack-N-Cokes served out of the rooms’ coffee pots. My friend Joe (a/k/a the notorious J.O.E.) and I at the Swiss Hotel in Buckhead, Atlanta, GA, circa 1995. Spent the entire weekend picking up chicks undercover as lesser-known professional hockey players. Nice!

QOTD: Some Gatorade out of the Plymouth Radisson mini bar. I drank my face off at my cousin’s wedding and the Gatorade was the only thing that stopped the elephant from tap dancing on my head. Gary, you are maniac and I love it.

    Interesting show.

QOTD: Never really hit up the mini bar, too cheap for the way over priced drinks inside.

  • That’s the Benjamin in New YORK City! Ugh, can’t type

Cool Episode Gary! We love to get our Coronas in Mexico at the all-inclusives we go to every year. Fully stocked fridge replenished daily, yay! Secrets and Sandals are both great. You already paid for the drinks so you don’t feel guilty about drinking them! You feel more guilty if you don’t!

  • Abbe Faria

Loved the spitting back into the glass part at the end, with that “as if I was really going to drink the rest of this anyway” look. Great episode, very resourceful show hosting.

QOTD: Best wine I had out of a minibar: a half bottle Ontario Riesling from my very well stocked minibar at Le Meridien King Edward in Toronto. Not much of a story though (It was just my first night in Canada on a business trip) but I was simply blown away by the quality of that Riesling (which I paired with a bag of spicy chips) ignorant as I had been up until that point on Canadian wines. Later during that trip I discovered other Ontario wines which made a big impression on me.

  • Instant classic. Easily one of my favorite episodes.

QOTD: During my senior year of college I helped organize a tour to Uruguay and Argentina that my choir would take just after graduation. It’s our first night in Montevideo and the youngins (sophmores, in this case) were desperate for some booze. So, they explored for a little while and found a grocery store that sold Grappamiel, came back to the hotel, and proceeded to mix it with whatever they could find in the mini bar. I somehow wound up with an invitation to this wonderful, sophomoric event, and I think that’s as good as it’s gonna get.

    Hey Man!!
Clos du Bois means close the door in false cognate French!!! I’ll stick with the old stand-bys at hotels . . .

My best find in the mini bar was a V-8 and three mini-bottles of Smirnoff.
Ah . . . all that and free cable too. Made up for an unpleasant flight

Great episode! I just started watching recently but I really love the show!

QOTD: I was working in Puerto Rico last year and staying in a small hotel on the ocean that was a little shabby, but nice. Normally I don’t drink from the hotel mini-bars because the company frowned on it, but I never really wanted to leave the hotel after I came back from work. They kept me stocked with straight fresh coconut milk, it was wild. Loved it.

QOTD: Marriott in Hartford arrived late after several hour weather delay, six inches of snow on the ground. Even mini bar prices made more sense than going anywhere else in that weather to this southerner

  • Gary,
This is the first time I’m watching one of your videos and it is hilarious! Do you ever drink the wines?
I make it a rule not to drink stuff from my hotel mini-bar as it is way too costly! i will use the refrigerator space though to keep wine or beer :-).

I did RT and send the link to a few friends as one of them has the same name as your shout out, but with an “i”.

PS: I drink that wine all the time as it can be found on many airplanes.

  • Jasmine F.

Priceless – I love the hotel mini bar wine tasting format. You should take the show on the road more often!

Best hotel mini bar drink ever: Red Rock Resort, Las Vegas – Not really just one drink, I think we drank all of it. Friend that gambles a lot had an amazing suite and we just went to town on the place.

    Hi Gary
what is your take on the 375ml vs the 187ml format?
i am in the hotel business and with resorts we are starting to look at dedicated 6 full bottle wine honor bars with openers, proper glassware and a note that if you open the wine just call room service and we will send a complimentary cheese platter? entry level to medium range priced?
    what do you think?
