I love this episode. The guest totally steals the show and his interaction with Gary is priceless

Germanovich: I happen to agree with everything George Huner said — in fact I was about to make similar comments until I read his. I find that this is becoming more and more about Gary than about wine. Why did Gary have to ask his guest how long he has been watching his show? This not only puts the guest on the spot, but also takes the emphasis away from him and places it on Gary.

Also, Gary, don’t constantly interrupt, it’s impolite. Let your guest finish his thought

I think a lot of people making negative comments about these last two episodes need to relax a little…Robert and Gary are both just doing their thing in their own different ways. So what if Robert has a slower pace than Gary. It was obvious to me that he’s passionate and knowledgeable about wine. I definitely got what he was about and it seems odd that he triggered so many uptight responses. Chill out folks, it’s only WLTV.

Before be overly critical, you might want to think about what it would be like to get in front of the camera – how well do you think YOU would perform?
    No, really…

Can people actually have something worth reading to say rather than saying which # in line they posted which is worthless? Annoying.

Now for the most part I don’t think the guest and Gary have good chemistry,
but I’m glad they took the time to make it a 2-parter, and really investigate
slowly, and Gary slowed down to really get on the same page as the guest.

    That’s class.

Great show as always. The first one, 96 points? I think I’ll have to buy that and try it for myself.

So Robert has been watching the show for the past year but was totally stumped about having to ask the question of the day? Hmmm…

QOTD: I’m with you Gary — I love those automatic check-in computers (especially when you don’t have any luggage to check). I remember the days when you had to wait in line for 1/2 hour just to get your ticket. Now we just need to find a way to get through the security check more efficiently.

I’ve got a question of the day… does interaction of marijuana growing which puts out more oxygen than any other plant combined with the ionization of the air effect the taste of wine for the better or worse? And has ANYONE ever tested this?

If this guy has been watching for over a year why did he not know about the Question of the day?
Something about him rubbed me the wrong way. I did however like checking out the wines you tried.

    Qotd- they are a pain.

    Wow–
Guess I caused somewhat of a stir with my comments. I apologize for the expletives and will refrain from using them in the future(I apologized to Gary as well). Blame it on the lame Chinon I had–just didn’t bring The Thunder, so I substituted my own!
But having said that, why should you really care what I say? It’s a free country, right? You would be blown away by what is said on European tv! I’m surprised Holier-Than-Thou Vinophile isn’t up in arms every time Gary says “Jerk-off.” Where are the “Moderators” (i.e. Censors), you ask? Well, we voted them out of office last November. God bless America!
As for the rest of my diatribe; I stand by it, as do a few other Vaniacs. Gary needs to chill and learn some interviewing skills. And somewhere between Dante Spinotti and Mott is a reasonable effort towards technical excellence, made all the more simple by today’s technology. This isn’t Rocket Science! In fact, I think I already noticed a brighter, better-lit stage today. See?

    Cheers

Again – it’s Al Gore’s fault….had the internet not been invented, we wouldn’t have this forum and debate. Guests are like entertainers…some are liked better than others. Personal reviews are evident here. I didn’t say he was a bad guy. And, GV is what he is…a bumble bee in a fruit jar…ENERGY beyond comprehension!! And I can assume this would be quite the “I” factor…It’s all good. Some are just better than others. Just like wine and women…

    Let the games…continue.

Sorry…no thunder on these two shows. There was barely a rumble. Perhaps the guest was overwhelmed or nervous. However, the concept of asking the QOD seemed new to him. For someone that has been watching for over a year, his reaction just didn’t seem right. Gary what where your thoughts about this guest after watching the show?

It’s Dessert wine and I will continue to call it Dessert wine! If thats the case then all red wines should be now ONLY be called Red Table Wine.

QOD – Greatest invention. At 7:00 in the AM, I’m in no mood to wait on a line to deal with some cranky check-in agent. I’m cranky enough for both of us.

Robert is a little old school when it comes to a lot of things. He just has a different personality than a lot of people watching which may have rubbed them the wrong way. I do, however, think we should respect his opinion- a lesson that Gary tries to promote but aparently falls on deaf ears for some.

As for those bashing the the people in front of/ behind the camera:
Gary is who he is. If you have watched the show long enough you should understand or you would have given up watching a long time ago.
Robert is a writer by profession- not a speaker. He is not a polished salesman or marketer either. Cut him a break.
Mott is a perfectly sufficient a/v person who has many more responsibilities than just filming. Last time I checked I wasn’t paying to watch this, so my expectations aren’t for an oscar-worthy production.

    Those are my $0.02

Love the 2-shirt look! Thats straight out of the early nineties Seattle!

Props to Robert on his post…check it out up there if you havent read it yet. Clearly a fan of Jean-Paul Sartre…now that would have been a better QOTD…What are your thoughts about Sartre’s notion of responsibility ie “No Excuses” (quotations referring to Sartre and Roberts post)?

Great show with a different point of view Facinating interplay between the 2 of you.Why can’t more small French wines get to this side of the pond?

Haters: Check out WS Oct 31, 2008. Robert did a GREAT article on Lake Como in Italy.
(As well as other WS articles). The Como article has me checking into a trip to Lake Como.

So, he was a bit tenative. HE definitely knows wine!!!!

It was not the best WLTV, but I found it interesting to enough to watch both episodes in one sitting.

I don’t understand all the haters, this guy was very good, just mellow. He knows what he wants to know, had a good sense of humor, had some fun descriptions and is a convivial wine lover. Thumbs up. He didn’t talk a lot about terroir b/c he wasn’t asked about it.

Nice video’s. I guess Robert was a bit overwhelmed by gary, and i can’t blame him for that, i wouldn’t do better i guess.

I have some experience with cornas, “wine of kings” by the way and it’s a fact that it is a tannic-bomb. If i taste a young cornas, i know i can expect some really hard tannic type of wine , do i will focus on the moulleux and fruit. If it’s there when it’s young, the wine has a huge potential. If it’s not there, you can have a problem in 15 years 🙂

Maybe robert didn’t had much experience with Cornas or just had a tough flight 🙂

Thx for the interviews Robert and Gary 🙂

Gary you got to get this Guy on below.

Sean Thackrey is a winemaker, indeed, but he is so much more: an archivist, historian, linguist, photographer, art collector. Thackrey shares his views on the importance of barrels, respect for ancient techniques like letting grapes rest, the word terroir (he hates it), and much more. For wine aficionados, he?s an inspiration. For wine novices, he?s a deep source of knowledge. (Keep watching: The video?s in 10 parts.)
