line of the day – ‘this smells like a helium balloon filled with oak chips’

After the previous episode where GV seemed a bit full of himself he’s back to his fantastic best in this one. The fruit machine analogy was pure gold.

Hi Garry. I would love to see more food/wine shows. E.g. some successfull experiments of “officially in the wine world hardly possible combinations” such as artichokes and wine. My experience shows me that for example a nice fruity not overoaked Barbare fits perfectly with artichokes. Further interesting would be combinations with asparagus or smoked salmon (but not with the pink champaign)… Best regards, Adrian.

Barbare of course means Barbera 🙂

bacon in the oven is the only way! Big Fan of Wild boar also, Gary, so thanks for the that. my favorite beside the daily bacon egg and chee, is wrapped around a filet mignon with bearnaise, and crabmeat. i eat it raw also. its up there with foie gras for me. bacon makes everything better! question of the day for GV:Do you like parma prosciutto or jamon serrano better? just wondering

  • I’m new to the wine-world, but I LOVE bacon!

You’ve helped to spark a deeper interest in me for white wine.

    Garyvee, you rock!!!

QOTD: I usually eat bacon with eggs, but I strip away the fat (unless the bacon is super crispy) and eat the good stuff. Love it.

I’m from Australia and you are SO right about Margaret River this is one of the unknown regions I’m so glad that you show more than just the norm it’s great, if you get in any of the Leeuwin Estate try that up against Cape Mentelle I think you might find a bit more of what your looking for or even some of the Tasmainian wines? Let me know what you think? Mind you I’ve only just joined the whole wine tv thing so I’m not too sure if you’ve done the wines or if you stock them.

I mostly eat bacon when i eat hamburgers. Sometimes i’ll make a pastasauce with bacon and eat it with spaghetti or some other pasta.

We had a 2000 Santa Duc Gigondas tonight with a tilapia dish that was garnished with bacon. The flavors were amazing together – the bacon brought out the fruit in the wine and the wine “toned down” the saltiness of the bacon.

GV – gotta love the flesh (fat) of the swine. This brings back memories of Pulp Fiction – “I don’t dig on swine.”

QOTD – I love bacon in an omelet with cheese!

Q for U – Is there a way that you can help us find these wines (like Chateau Paradis) in the states that we live in?

  • I’m a BIG fan of syrah or a syrah/cabernet blend at room temperature! I noticed the Chateau Paradis in your video had good ‘legs’ or ‘tears’…on the QOTD I’m gonna go with BLT…the lettuce, tomato and wheat bread help stave off the guilt brought on by the bacon and mayo, LOL. Great show BTW!

Maybe I’m late to comment, but my wife is making bacon right now while watching the episode. It is helping and it is awesome! Great episode. I will definitely pickup the Conundrum soon. We haven’t quite made it to the reds, but the Paradis sounds awesome.

  • QOTD1: Bacon by itself – preferably homemade. If you’ve never had it before, you’ve never truly tasted bacon!

QOTD2: You mentioned the fattiness of the bacon having a big effect on the taste of these wines, but can you think of a pairing that would exploit the saltiness of the bacon as well?

I like bacon with just about anything. I am really down with a good old fashion BLT or a chop salads with some big chunks of bacon.

Great show still trying to find the Chateau Paradis in IL.

How I enjoy bacon on a cold winter’s day – this is great comfort food, not great cuisine – with very creamy macaroni and cheese.

Enjoy bacon best a couple minutes off the grill, out of the oven,… not hot but full of flavor and most importantly–in unlimited quantity

QOTD: I enjoy bacon by itself or in breakfast foods. The weirdest application of bacon that I enjoy is in a Vosges Mo’s Bacon Bar chocolate bar. It’s not for everyone . . . my husband loves bacon but doesn’t like the chocolate/bacon combo.

What goes well with bacon? More bacon! Check out comedian Jim Gaffigan’s new standup show on Comedy Central. He talks about how much he loves bacon for about 10 minutes. Hilarious!

One of the best combos I ever had was at a Grateful Palate warehouse sale in Oxnard, CA last year. Fresh hot bacon and dark boysenberry jam, in a warm hot bun. That’s it. Amazing together.
