Solid show, nothing crazy.
To be honest Sauvignon Blanc gets so much exposure these days that it’s hard to get too pumped about it.

  • Very nice show Gary! I never understand the “hype” about Clow(n)dy Bay. I loved the Dog Point Vineyard Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc a few month ago. Great stuff!

    @QOTD:
I think I will go with some German Rieslings QbA / Kabinett / Feinherb – so much to discover!

    Cheers.

    Great show again,

I’m fairly new to this show(REALLY got hooked about a month and half ago). I think you have a great taste and knowledge for wine and unfortunately,a lot of the wines you taste, we don’t get here, since i’m from Montreal Canada. And i really like the zanyness wich breaks down the myth about wine being serious. i am pretty serious about wine too but let’s face it, we drink it for fun and pleasure, right?

Liked the comment about the Cloudy Bay wich i had about 2 weeks ago. Thought it was okay too, but for the price…,(paid 25$ can, on special, usually is 32$!! That’s tax included so it translates 26$). That was for the 07 vintage. The 06 was more expensive! I’ve had a Mennetou-Salon, 05, i think, for about 24$ canadian, wich i thought was much more interesting.(19 bones us) The Cloudy Bay didn’t quite bring the thunder i expected, because of all the hype.

QOTD: i just ordered some white and red Côteaux du Languedoc (Conte De Floris) and can’t wait ro try those. Also am anxious to try some NZ sauv. Blanc that i’ve had for about 6 months, an 06 Isabel, from the Marlborough. Have you got those wines in NJ?

P.S. My team is playing the rangers tonight at the garden. It’s going to be a tough one.Go habs Go!

QOTD: The wine I have been drinking is a fairly unknown producer. He is called Theo Loosen and has his wineyard in Klotten by the Mosel in Germany. Mainly he makes Rieslings but also a very interesting wine called Rotling.
    How about a Rotling-episode Gary?

Good show. I’m excited to drink the 05 and 06 Kanonkop Pinotage because the price just dropped here from over $20 to $17….a bargain! You should try these again, I remember how much you (and we) liked the 05.

  • QOTD: I’m looking forward to a day next weekend hopping from winery to winery along the Niagara Wine Trail, sampling some local wines – http://www.niagarawinetrail.org/

I did a search on the site for Niagara & didn’t come up with anything – what do you think of the Niagara region?

I hope your trip to New Zealand expands your awareness of the large number “Little Guys” (this is a quote from the Wall St Journal) producing wine in all the New Zealand regions.

It is very cool and exciting when one starts to understand and enjoy these wines with food. The challenge is finding them, it is usually a treasure hunt.

These are wines that lead to memorable evenings.

    Enjoy your trip.

QOTD: it’s summer all year round here in Singapore, so I’ll take spring as a cooling lazy sunday afternoon here. Since we’re on the topic of Sauv Blancs, I’ve got a bottle of Sancerre by Jean Max Roger 2006 Cuvee G.C. that I’d like to try soon.

By the way, I do feel that Cloudy Bay is just a brand that people would go for. There are others much better out there, such as Saint Claire, Block 6 Sauv Blanc and so on…

I do have a question for you…how long do you let your white wines ‘breath’ before enjoying them?

Long time drinker beginning to really learn about wine, I’m looking forward to trying many new wines this spring especially white — chenin blanc, NZ SVs, different reislings (which has been my personal fav for its variety) more Canadian icewines, and old world whites, particularly sauternes and sweet wines. LOVE your show, my girls now all call it “sniffy sniff”. The other day my first grader sniffed my dessert wine (only sniff – she’ll apparently be in the backyard eating Ohio grass and licking rocks soon) and said it smelled like “a truck full of fruit and flowers”. And she has not yet seen your “peaches thrown at a auto body shop” but has gotten enough of you in her to describe things in a similar way. 🙂 Learning a great deal from you, GREAT SHOW.

QOTD: Just got back from a wine trip in Virginia. The wines definitely have gotten better since the last time we were there in ’04. We’ll be having the King Family Viognier, Cab Franc and Rose for Easter. A number of new tasting rooms have opened, Barren Ridge, Blenheim, Cross Keys and Sugarleaf to name a few. Brought back some Petit Verdot, Tannat, Touriga Nacional, Petit Manseng and Rose, which I’m anxious to try. Other than Virginia wines, Black Kite Pinot–Kite’s Rest will soon be opened.

I enjoyed this show even though lately I can’t get into NZ sauvignon blanc. I loved them for a while a couple of years ago, but now they just bore me. I get sick of how similar most of the flavor profiles are.

I’m really looking forward to drinking some roses from the south of France. I particularly enjoy those from the Cotes du Ventoux region. I usually drink the heck out of these wines for about four months of the year.

QOTD: Unoaked wines from Oregon and Washington state, not so much a seasonal play as it is a mild detour from the Cali bottles. Keep your show and your lettuce tight. Peace.

  • I am planning to have some great older Poully fussie and Sancerre. Plus try to get to some of my controversial 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 white Burgs. Some have just faded but some are killer.

    Gary,

I just thought I would let you know that WineLibrary TV took precedence over Dire Straits today in the office – we were listening to “Local Hero – Wild Theme”, and I put on this episode, and people tuned it. Awesome.

QOTD – Excited about going to a Bordeaux 2008 en Primeur tasting in a couple of weeks, and then some Pichon Lalande 2001…
