lines of the day – ‘this wine lacks true soul, it’s like Milli Vanilli up here’ and ‘how many people are still influenced by Sideways and dont drink Merlot…JERKS’

The tough, loud, live crowd from the previous episode are even louder and more drunk in this one. GV handles them as well as he can but the background noise and dodgy picture make this quite a hard one to follow.

    QOTD: What the hell is an OtterPop? In Boston we call it an Italian Ice. I think when I was in Phili a few years ago, they called it WaterIce.
    I think lemon or watermellon.

    Boy that was difficult to hear you with the crowd – what a shame they couldn’t stay quiet to listen to you for just 25 minutes! Rough crowd but good info as always! Want to seek out the Domaine de la Janasse for sure! Mahalo for trying to bring the Thunder!

    My suggestions for shhhing. First, get some lighting, it will make the crowd feel like they are at a live taping and they can’t be talking. Second, mic up.

    A little extra “ambient noise” is no problem. It adds to the energy of a “live” event (which is what I’m guessing is your intention). A little too much of the “If it’s not what we have in NY/NJ then it must suck” mentality, though.

    QOTD: They used to have a white one that tasted like vanilla. That would make it Vanilla Ice, but that was a long time ago—so just like the rapper??, it was a one-hit wonder and no longer available. Too bad, cause the ice-pop was awesome. Also liked the blue-sky one—some type of berry flavor which made your lips turn blue.

    QOTD 2: Have never heard of or had an otter pop. East Coast, baby.

    Tough crowd, but I agree that a dedicated mike would have solved the problem of background noise. You could hear the camera guy great when he spoke a few words, because the mic was near him, not Gary. So for David’s comment – I don’t think the commenters dislike the format or want a “boring” show, just a mic so we can hear Gary well.

    QOTD: Never ate them when I was little!

    That episode was brutal to pay attention to with all of the crowd noise. How lit up were the people in the audience? Maybe it was just a microphone placement problem.

  • I love the show and have learned alot as a new winer drinker but the last two live episodes were really pretty challenging to watch – video quality is terrible, sound quality is poor and the constant crowd babble really makes it tough to watch. The “live show” concept is not a bad one but clearly needs to be planned properly for deliver the same quality we’re used to.

  • Let me remind everyone that this was a “Live” event….and yes there was happy hour from 4-7 before the show. Great show………

  • Video quality was poor to say the least. I think you did a better video from a plane, versus these two San Diego shows. The crowd was pretty annoying, it would have been nice to drop a few less shhhh’s. I think the live format is pretty cool overall though, and with a few tweaks it could be a good format for you.

    You need to travel with someone who is willing to put a beat down on loud audiences. You should bring Mott and Matt. Mott could be like an enforcer at a hockey game. He could pull some charger jerseys over their heads and go at it like Link Gaetz.
