Solid but short episode mainly notable for Mott not warming to the guest on yesterday’s episode. Nuts

QOTD; two days ago I bought a T-shirt that featured the original advertisement for the first (fourth episode) star wars movie, the real nerdy part was that it was the poster that was put up in China so all the wording is in Chinese.

  • Love Anne Amie Pinots (I try to visit every other year or so). But $45 does seem a bit high for a “novelty” wine. I will attempt to find this wine, though. And what’s the deal with Vintage59’s comment? One step away from cracking up?

QOTD: I dabble in molecular gastronomy. I love the fact that I buy some of my cooking equipment at Home Depot!

QOTD ~ attempted to take up PHP programming to develop what is now a booming site. Lets just say I now have a full time programmer because it didn’t go as planned.

QOTD: As a proud member of the CKC I live in a small room in an apartment. I calculated how long in would take investing in solar energy to run the gadgets in my little room to pay for themselves… 15 YEARS!! No solar for me. I’ll have a BS in Electrical Engineering 10 months from now so I guess that is my answer next year.

QOTD: I calculated all of the different sizes of tires available that could replace the rear tires of my sports car, leading to faster overall times around the local track.

Good find – I like the interesting wines like Pinot Noir Blanc that you occasionally find.

Love your dad from the other day too! You two remind me of my wife and her dad, very entertainin.

    Gary,

I love the choice of the wine, but I found your actions and comments quite contradictory. You began the show by being over the top (your usual self) by pouring out most of the bottle. What a waste of a nice (pricey) bottle on the table and in the spit bucket. You then go on to tell viewers that this bottle is too expensive to recommend to the everyday drinker, though you praise it for being a good nerdy wine. Next time sync up your words with similar actions. Don’t waste a great bottle and then tell your viewers to not waste their money.

  • QOTD: Difficult to narrow it down, but I think the nerdiest thing I’ve done so far this year is take some Star Wars action figures (old school 1995-style!) with me on a trip to my girlfriend’s parents’ house. And yes, everyone got to play with them.

QOTD: I work for the BCLDB ( British Columbia Liquor Distrabution Branch ) And when people return empty bottles for there bottle deposit, I’ll dig through the bin to see what’s out there that I’ve not yet tried….hunt it down….and taste it. ( I mean try a “fresh” bottle.)
2nd nerdiest thing is writing comments on Wine Library T.V. ( According to my girlfriend ).

The nerdiest thing I do every year is quite simply this: I watch, every single day, an online video show about Wine. That’s pretty damn nerdy. But I love wine. So, it’s okay.

Question back to you GV – how does a wine maker control the amount of alcohol in the wine?

Do you really have throw out that much wine. I get it when you rinse. But pour so much to leave half on the table and then just throw out almost whole glass to the bucket.

It’s like burning money. It is exagareted, don’t you think.

QOTD: I guess starting yet another blog;)

    Gary you need two buckets.

    1. The Spit Bucket(copyright 2009) to spit into.
    2. The Rinse Bucket(copyright 2009) to dump rinses, over-pours, wring out the tablecloth, etc …

Then you can re-bottle The Rinse Bucket and sell it for half the price to us po’ folk. Sometimes it would be a varietal and sometimes it would be a blend. The Spit Bucket re-bottling is optional, but it too may be very lucrative.

QOTD: Besides building a wine cellar in our basement (pretty nerdy) I have rekindled a childhood passion of collecting 1973-1976 vintage Wacky Packages (the ultimate in Nerd-ism).

    I drink with my nose.

At least for Vayniacs in the Chicago area, there is a white Pinot Noir available for a lot less money. Frecciarossa is a wine producer in the OltrepΓ² Pavese area of Lombardia, Italy, and they make a white Pinot Noir they call “Sillery.” Wine-searcher.com shows the 2007 to be available at Binny’s for $17 and at Sam’s for $18. It also shows it at Cabrini Wines in New York for $16.53. (Knowing about and suggesting Sillery is a pretty wine-nerdy thing. Does this count as my answer to the QOTD?)

Thanks for the episode Gary…..I do Nerdie things all of the time…..One of the most Nerdie things I’ve done might be to demonstrate Bernoulli’s principle using a beach ball and a leaf blower….
