Loved this episode Gary, my mom is a big Simi/Franciscan drinker so I will definitely suggest the 2007 Cameron Hughes Lot 124 Chardonnay for her to try.
SOTD: Just keep up the passion and thunder I am loving the last couple episodes so keep up the upward trend! And maybe a Free Shipping code every couple months would not hurt because I can rarely try most of the wines due to the expensive shipping costs.

Fun episode to watch Gary; this is my first comment, and I wanted to thank you for opening my palate up to wine and getting me to try different things. It has helped me in my passion of reviewing whisky, as I now pick up on wine notes in some of the sherried whiskies I taste that 2 or 3 months ago I would have missed; you expanded my palate!
I’d love to see you do another ‘Scotch Library’ episode, as the last one was really fun to watch. Cheers!

I gotta say, I sometimes get lost in these types of episodes when you power through a bunch of wines. It’s fun cuz you start talking really fast, but I also find myself doing other things while listening to you in the background.
So I wanted to tell you about a great sniffy sniff I had the other day. I went to this awesome wine bar in Grand Rapids, Michigan (how often, if ever, have you been to Michigan?) and had a 2006 Le Mas des Collines Gigondas. Talk about poopy cow manure! I mean, poop city, USA! It was awesome. The wine was so interesting; it took a while for me to get into it. Definite heat on the back end, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had never had a Gigondas before (expanding the palette, you know).
And since I get to tell you whatever I want, I’m going to mention again how I think you should do a show at a college football game. Namely, Notre Dame. Just think: the football stadium, touchdown Jesus, cheerleaders all around. I think it sounds like a great idea. I’ve got two tickets for you and Mott. Can’t you just hear the fight song now: Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame…

SOTD: I Would like more solo episodes with more emphasis on just the wine. I enjoy a guest every now and then but more than one or two guests a week is a little much i think.

Please, can you explain your scoring system. We all know that scoring is a whole megillah, if you will, but I actually care about your perspective and respect your palate and most of all, your honesty and non-partisan taste.
How can you say, “yeah this wine is really mediocre. I really can’t advocate it. It is over-priced but ok”. Alright I’m paraphrasing. But please indulge me. You would give the afoprmentioned description an 87. That’s a b plus. Man, when I was in high school in kansas city, a b plus was pretty cool. I’m confused, because you regularly score “mediocre” wines as 82 or 88. In fact in recent times (over the last two months) I’ve been pleased to “understand” your taste and point of view better when you say “this wine is a travesty, and I score this a 55.”. Thank you. That is clarity for me.
I am not calling you out all alone. But in fact most wine blogs,mags etc score all too many wines of “mediocre” description, in the 80s. The 80s are a B. That is “good.”. Let’s call a mediocre wine a 75. Come on gary.

If I hadn’t seen you with all your energy and passion for wine I never would have picked up my first bottle all that time ago.
It took a month of watching to finally pick up a bottle. Now a year and some change later, I have had every Shiraz under 20 bones that I have found in my town, which is saying alot. Our local grocer has approx. a 2000 bottle cellar.
I’ve tried not to have the same bottle more than once, you do say to keep expanding your palate, even though that is not what you meant. I have tried a couple pinot noir and a zin just last weekend so I am trying to follow the your schooling… I’ve gone on a wine vacation that I never would have without you. I only got to go to 7 of the 400 or so wineries in E Wa, but hey 2 years ago I wouldn’t have even contemplated 1. I’ve always been a LURKER, but this took over an hour to type, my 5 words a minute…

– The wines of Bourgueil are some of the most under-appreciated in Europe!
– Washington Syrah is incredibly over rated and lame. Stick to Merlot guys.
– The top 2nd-5th growth ’04 Bordeaux wines actually represent very good value.
– America needs to stop making Viognier asap. Yeah, I know there’s some good ones, but most are insipid.
– Torrantes smells like somebody spilled a bunch of flowery perfume in the Sprite factory.
– Argentine Malbec is the most annoying win fad ever. There are some great ones, but most are one dimensional (and usually over-oaked) junk.
– From what I’ve tasted, the ’07 southern Rhones are going to crush it!!!!
– Guinea pigs are neat.

I’m a big fan, a good customerr and a regular if not frequent commenter.
I guess what I’m hoping is that you won’t be distracted or allow the show to be diluted by your ever-increasing outseide interests.
We’ve been seeing too many irrelevant guests and too often the very good info the wine-oriented guests bring has drowned in a sea of blather (that Aussie winemaker comes to mind).
I guess what I’m suggesting is you tighten, hone, edit.
And even more importantly, don’t lose sight of your mission which is wine appreciation and education.
It’s your remarkable palate and your novel taste descriptors that lend a sense of discovery to the art of wine. And it’s your willingness to, circumstances be damned, take to task some of the bigest names in the wine business for the quality of their product–possibly at the expense of your retail business–that gives us permission to believe in your credibility.
So I’m saying, keep it on point.
As the British say, “mind your head.” Don’t let ego get the better of you. Edit yourself . Stop the “play play already for instance.
Prepare questions for your guests. Don’t let the conversation meander.
You can do that and still stay true to your mission.
Keep expanding your technique with the flip cam stuff. Tho it can be hard to watch, it’s fun when the show goes places.
More restaurant wine list show, more value shows and I’d love to see more behind the scenes at WL episodes.
Finally, I just want to say that although I disagree with it totally and I believe she misconsrued yoru intent, I was touched by Keli Brigan’s comment and applaud her boldness.

I’d like to ask you to review mexican wines, there are really good mexican wines like Nebbiolo from L.A. Cetto, Vino de Piedra, Icaro, Kerubiel, Gabriel, Serafiel, Gabriel, aka the archangels from Adobe Guadalupe, the wines from Casa Madero, Chateau Camou and I could continue.
