line of the day – ‘if you get your whole nose in there you’ll get a much higher level of sniffy sniffness’

Thought the format worked pretty well and GV handled the tasters very nicely…but the wise-guy in the hat annoyed me (for several reasons; a/ butting in, b/ the smug smile and c/ the hat). Also the sound was non-existent when GV went around the table for opinions. Hope the rest of the week turns out better

It was so radooool cool Johnny Johnny was there. Would have enjoyed seeing LaLa
EVEN more. Waiting for a GV guest spot/cameo in the Tiki Bar….
QOTD The 3rd and last city I’ve always wanted to see in the U.S.. San Francisco (been there 2x)and New Orleans (Oct 2009) next.
My QOTD What would GV prescribe as a wine cocktail should he ever…visit the
    Tiki Bar?

  • Tough call on this one, Gary. It’s always risky when you get more than 6 people on the show because of camera angles, people perhaps speaking over each other, and poor sound. Where was your man with the boomstick? Surely you had a boomstick, right? I could only hear about half of what the others said.

The other big risk here is alienating your audience by the selection of guests. Gary, I love ya, but most of us can’t stand stuffy, pretentious human beings. This is what makes your show so great: you broke wine out of its age-old box as a luxury consumer product, and you made it fun! I saw the attire of the women to your left and right, and guessed that I was in for an unpleasant ride. At the risk of being presumtuous, I’d venture to say that your selection of guests was not representative of most Vayniacs in any way, shape, or form. You risked it big-time there. Maybe others liked it. I’ll thumb through the reviews to see if I’m alone in my criticism.

Most of the guests seemed alright, but again, the moment I saw that woman’s hat, and the absurd way she tasted wine, I was only half tuned in, letting the show play while I tabbed over to other tasks on my computer. Even though I’m a loyal fan, and I enjoy your show, the rule of first impressions is still in play.

I’ll tune in one more time to your big-show production, but if it doesn’t jive with the usual tone of your show, I’ll skip out on the rest of wine week. Seems like your A game is with the flip cam and when Mott is shooting.

    Best of luck,
    C.J.

I think you should cut the guest tasters a little slack. They were probably nervous about being on a web show that is viewed (and judged) by tons of people–I know I would be. They seemed to relax and participate more as the show went on.

Plus, Gary’s comments on the wine are always interesting and informative. I do think that this room is not a great video spot–hard to see and hear everyone in the room.

Hey I watched to see Johnny Johnny and actually learned something! Great show and I’ll definitely be back to watch more GV.

Maybe Julia should use less wine for her “rinse”. I think she poured more for the rinse than the tasting.

    QOTD: Stinky and over-rated. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • big things Gary!

right-on on Alvaro de Castro. from the 6 or 7 wines he submitted to Robert Parker last year, all got 90+ points. it definitely says someting about this guy. but the best is that he was looking for an importer for ages in the US…

    cheers

  • Thanks to you Mott for cropping the hat guy out as much as possible. If I had to guess, I’ll bet he was there first and sat as close to Gary as possible. He tried to make it the Silly Hat Show with special guest Garyvee. Bleh.

    QOTD: I say “hot dog”!!

Felt similarly about the Quinta and the Castro. Really liked the Castro, and felt slightly disappointed with the Quinta. Wow, this is the first time I can throw in my two cents about a wine on this show, since I actually tried two of these!
