  • Hey Gary,

Liked the show. Cereal is also one of my fave foods, hadn’t yet considered pairing it with wine. Good idea. It really grossed me out though when you started eating the soggy Cinnamon Toast Crunch (how do you do that?).

How about a pairing suggestion for Almond Vanilla Special K…….(this is my Capt. Crunch)?

  • jae

gary – great ep. eric asimov doesn't get it. you the man.

  • My favorite is a very very close tie between Cap'n Crunch and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, leaning towards the cinnamon, but for whatever reason, i'd rather try a pairing with cap'n crunch and Riesling at my next wine event.

  • UCBeau

Just watched this, super cool concept! Inspires me to do a similar tasting with some wine geek buddies..Maybe throw in some fruity pebbles and a brachetto or asti spumante, cheerios with a kabinett reisling..or just go all out and do corn pops and a sauternes! rock on Gary!

  • tommyb2

QOTD: Honey Nut Shredded Wheat also the dogs….

  • tommyb2

AH! figured it out – you get points when people like or reply to your comments!

  • Count Chocula

    Don't forget Frankenberries!
“Franken Berry was very popular when first introduced possibly because the initial batches of the cereal used a dye that didn't break down in the body, causing many children's feces to be bright pink, a symptom sometimes referred to as “Frankenberry Stool.”” from wikipedia

Gary, Gary, Gary … it's “Cap'n,” not “Captain!” JK. This is the first episode of WineTV that I've watched. You made me LOL! Thanks for being YOU! – Jan

  • lewharrelson

    you are a fraud

  • mattyvan

    any logic behind that statement?

  • DanBrown

    Great episode, pure awesome G!

  • DanBrown

Had to re-watch the chow down. You were eatin' that Cap'n like it was a post apocalyptic delicacy.

  • Gary,

in German and by a German. The Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, 2007 Schwarzhofberger, Riesling Spaetlese in Episode #734 is pronounced correctly as follows in this Mp3

  • this had me rolling on the floor dude, especially when you started munching on the Cap'n Crunch.

  • donjacks

Great episode, wine does go with everything/anything you like!
    Well done, thanks.

  • CBone

    Gary, this one was terrific!

QOTD: I'm a Grape-Nuts (somehow appropriately named cereal for a wine lover) sort of guy. I also love the Kashi brand Cinnamon Harvest – a shredded wheat with a bit of cinnamon cereal. I bet the Chardonnay would go well with that one!

  • CBone

Thanks, Lew, for your brilliant pairing recommendations. We are all really glad you decided to add your ideas! And thanks for being such a positive and pleasant person, we can all tell by the thoughtful and kindly response.

  • I know this is a very late comment, but I cannot pass this up.
    1) Captain Crunch (!!)
    2) Maple/Brown Sugar Malt-O-Meal (not exactly cereal, but soooooooooo good)

I need to find me some good Riesling again.

  • leni

    Excellent show!
    Junk cereal: Ca-oooooooooookie crisp!
Healthy cereal: Kashi 7 grain puffs.

  • shamikodesign

Real and different Great Job Gary!

  • scottsutter

Gary, I would have to disagree — CC with Crunchberries is THE best product. Always cuts the top of my mouth though…..Cheers,

  • richardvinifera

QOTD: Favourite is granola or muesli served with filmjölk (swedish yoghurt made with certain bacteria)

  • ike70

Gary, you're an amazing guy, love your work and loved your first book “crush it”, love wine, love captain crunch too BUT please you could have avoided this video.. this wine cereal mix combo might have American wine drinkers happy and excited, but I assure you if you suggest something like this to the French, the Germans and above all the Italians they'd puke!! Wine, captain Crunch and superbowl?? Noway.. how about Lobster, Pinot Grigio and a good Champiuons League final between Inter/Real Madrid.. ?? Ok Gary keep up the amazing work and have hurry with book number 2!!! I'm dying to read it!!
    ciao

  • Khary

    Captain Crunch! Its the best!lol

  • corkscaftans

As long-time Gary V and WineLibraryTV fans, Corks + Caftans would like to extend a huge thanks and “hell yes” to you on this episode. Brave! Groundbreaking! And I say this while sipping an Oregon Pinot Noir with a S'Mores PopTart dessert. See? It's not completely absurd.

    best- Rob and Carey

  • Jeff

Absolutely the best cereal of all time… LIFE! No question about it.

  • gary you did your thing! i really liked this pairing because it dispels the myth that wine should be reserved only for special occasions. rock on bruh

  • AJ

Gary, I will never eat cereal quite the same way again ;P Golden Grahms, which happens to be my fav – what's your suggestion? I have to admit I was laughing so hard I was crying when you were noshin' on the CC, you so rock! Stay true ~AJ

  • Thanks for such a great post and the review, I am totally impressed! Keep stuff like this coming.

  • kree808

    Cocoa Pebbles!

  • Marillyn

You've made me want to buy some Cap'n Crunch just for old time sakes. This was my favorite cereal as a kid; I have recently been revisiting some of my old childhood comfort foods; maybe I'm going through a midlife crisis? Perhaps a show pairing wines and childhood comfort foods? In vino veritas.

  • beginnerwinedrinker64

This episode made me laugh, Good bye Orange juice, hello sweet riesling. My favorite cereal is Count Chocula.

  • winegirl4

This is one of my favorite episodes. I wonder which wine would pair well with Mini-Wheats.

  • Ludo

    Choco Pops

  • Spinboy

Shreddies. Can only get them in Canada.

Shreddies are also the favorite cereal of Bill Nye the Science Guy.

  • glidernyc

Don't get the milk and wine part… Wouldn't eating the dry cereal and pairing with the wine be better?

  • sixxten147

    Gary,

Just ran across the show. Can't remember how, was well into a bottle of scotch. You are very knowledgable in the world of wine and massively entertaining. Would love it if I had someone who to turn to for scotch, bourbon, and other whisky (ey) advice as wine lovers have in you. Any chance you partake in libations other than wine? So be it if not, your current show will do….absolute mint condition originality. Well done.

  • Lohcy1

I love KASHI cereals, would you try to pair some wine with a few kinds of Kashi cereals?!

  • Johnjacobs

    fruity pebbles

  • Took me time to read all the comments, but I really enjoyed the article. It proved to be Very helpful to me and I?m sure to all of the commenters right here! I bet you had enjoyable scripting this article, didn?t you?

  • Carlos
