QOTD..Estate bottled does matter, but I will not pay up huge for the honor. I would buy an estate wine from a good producer without seeing a rating more so than a non-estate wine. I hope my comment makes sense.

Once again…fantastic education for the WLTV world!!

  • Good 2 part show there. I don’t get the QOTD. Well I understand that some growers just sell and some wineries just ferment and blend. But Estate rules is that sort of appellation rules too?

In my experience the wines are more true if there is the same people that grow, ferment, blend and bottle it. It’s more there make as to speak. The old world works more like that, and as Gary always points out, you have to care about the thing that you do, otherwise the passion get lost in translation/transaction/translocation/transformation 🙂

QOTD: Good wine is good wine, but for whatever reason, I’m more likely to spend more money on a bottle that is 100% estate grown, crafted, bottled etc. I’m really interested in drinking wine with a character that comes from the place the grapes are grown, the climate, soil, and people on the land…

QOTD: I tend to ‘respect’ an ‘Estate Grown’ wine more as it does show the dedication of the winery/wine maker, but balk at buying (due to the higher cost) until I’ve tasted, which isn’t always possible… To Gary’s point, there are a few wineries that come to mind the really put “Estate” out there on their label now; Groth and Montelena come to mind…
