‘I’m quite bored by it and I’m almost taking a nap.’

After a couple of bore draws this episode turns up a decisive and surprising winner of the head to head. Makes for a much better show.

  • Double blinds rock. Love it when the wine nobody has heard of wins. Probably some guys and gals just working under the radar, doing what they love. QOTD: Health, happiness, love, and a nice bottle of wine. What more does anyone need?

  • nice pinot show ! love the blind taste test. interesting outcome.

QOTD; a case of Pavillon Rouge de Chateau Margaux.

In response to all those saying this was unfair, I’d say “sure,” but only to a certain point. The fact remains that BF was still charging ~twice as much as the Evening Landing for a “bad year.” Think, for example, of how other big boys such as the First Growths charge big bucks, even in a year like 2002 for Bordeaux. In some cases they can pull it off, in others they rely on brand recognition to get someone to buy one of their bottles instead of 2 or 4 or 12 bottles of a lowly 5th growth 90 pointer.

Gary’s spot on here. If it weren’t blind the temptation–and the marketing ploy–might be to talk about how the wine with pedigree was remaining loyal to varietal typicity or still ringing true of its hallowed terroir, rather than admitting that it was an uninspired and consequently overpriced effort.

Double Blinds are my best cure when I find myself ‘needing’ more and more expensive wines. I don’t mind being shamed when I mistake a $15 effort for a $30 one, but when a $35 effort kicks the s@#t out of a $100 well, then, I really enjoy the humble return and the hedonistic pleasure of a $15 old vines Grenache, for example. Viva raspberry liqueur and white pepper notes!

QOTD: From you, GV, I’d like more double blinds or fun and smart guests.

GV – AWESOME show. This is why I love watching you over all the other wine snobs on the Net. You are honest and you lay it down as it is. Loved the honesty and it is another reason I trust your picks and buy from your store.

QOTD: I want a trip to New York to visit Wine Library. Also on my list is a wine rack for all the damn wine I have purchased from Cinderella Wine.

Hey Gary there is some sort of problem with your blackboard. I am pretty sure that it is supposed to read NYPETEaD. You need to check with the forum rules regarding this. I believe that you can also shorten it to NYPaD. Can you have some of your staff fix this.

    Thanks
