line of the day – ‘seemed a little conservative, then got a little freaky deaky’

GV was convinced that one of these wine was young, and one definitely a little older. They were both from 2004…proving that our leader is human after all.

nice little surprise for my morning gary.
A – i really relate to what you are saying gary. barolo being levitated to such a status is on the rise. my collection in reds is really bordeaux, burgundy, rhones and i find myself seeking out barolos and barbarescos for future pleasure. in terms of QPR, you can find some top notch stuff for fractions of burdundy and brdx. + nebiolo has the feel of pinot but the charge of a bigger cab wine. people come to the middle and it is italy
qotd – i think i have more barolo than i have drunk it. i just came back to the states for xmas and i brought back a 98 barbaresco from punset. i told my friend jenn that if she makes a killer dinner, i will bring the barbaresco

Barolos have been one of my favorites for over 30 years and continue to be ‘relative bargains’ compared to equivalent quality Bordeaux, Burgundies and Cali Cabs. Have had Borgogno, Conterno, Ratti, Pio Cesare and others. Most recent was a Paolo Scavino, I believe ’04 (?) at the Tewksbury Inn, NJ on a Monday night when all wines are half price, paired with a Piedmont Ribeye steak – Fantastic!

Nice show, great to see these blind taste-offs.

QOTD: I went out and bought some ’04 Barolos based on a show you did a month or two ago and I wasn’t impressed. One was “corked” and the other was just thin and didn’t have a lot of taste. It’s hard to get the wines you taste on the show because I’m in Maryland and it’s illegal to ship wine here! I guess I need to have some sent to a friend’s house, but he’ll probably drink it all 🙁
