What!? I guess I can’t speak for ‘merica, but Whiskey rules in my neighborhood. For single Malts I lean towards the Highland Park. I also like the Double Wood, Oban, Macallan. Right now though my palate is craving rye. Had a glass of Sazerac after work today.

    QOTD:Badgers.

  • Cool

  • Allan

    2nd!

  • YES top 10!!

Nice eps GV still trying to bring Merlot back!

QOTD: don't really follow BB as much as I use to.

  • Gary, thanks for doing the episode! Your folks at Wine Library have been great to work with @kmurph @troutmonster – all great people and genuine. Thanks for supporting the event. It's a perfect example of how social media is changing the wine world!

AHHHHH… My fix is in! (top 10)

  • Looking forward to the #WAMerlot Twitter Tasting! Just need to figure out which wine(s) to open now…

  • I have baylor in the final 4!

  • Anonymous

He can change his name and avatar, but not his style of writing/commenting! πŸ˜€

  • ChrisNY2

I too have Baylor in the final four…it was tough deciding if it was going to be Baylor or 'Nova, but it's certainly not going to be Duke. ..and Kentucky is going all the way. But there will be lots of upsets I'm sure… ANYTHING can happen in the Big Dance!

  • Thanks for a long awaited Washington show. I should mention that the last two wines were made in Walla Walla – we just don't have enough vineyard area yet to keep up with the demand so a lot of wineries source from other areas of the state.

    QOTD: Georgia Tech!

  • randinthecity

    GARY!!

Big fan of Washington Merlot, totally agree with your assessment of the Pedestal! I think 2004 was a bit richer than the 2005. One of my favorite WA merlot's is the Quilceda Creek Merlot, arguably a better wine than there Cab!!!

QOTD: UTEP into the sweet 16!

  • castello

    seventeenth!

  • Too bad about the picks for this episode… there are sooooooo many good merlots out here. Pedestal is nice, but far from great.

QOTD: I might pee myself if the Griz (Montana) get to the Sweet 16. But I think Siena might do some things…

  • Waits

“The piano has been drinking, my necktie is asleep…..”

Oakey! show Gary, a bit over-oaked for my eyes, but hey….. i myself is having a sip-O- Balvenie Doublewood this evening, Not BAD! Whiskey is soooo underrated……………..!
    Who's with me???

    QOTD: Does it matter?

  • QOTD: I have Baylor in my Final Four and Kentucky winning it all

  • QOTD: Western University Dolphins

  • cellarrat5

I am with you all the way. Although I do not believe whiskey is underrated, perhaps in this country it is. The single malt scotches do not get nearly enough attention, I definatly agree with that! Right now I am drinking Glenlivet 18, and I just finished off a bottle of the Dalwhinnie 15. Doublewood is not bad at all! Keep drinking the good stuff Waits!!

  • Waits

    Slacker!!!

  • Waits

    Cheers yourself!

Just started enjoying Merlots again, have had some good ones, 2005 Swanson, 2005 Chappellet. QOTD-Cinderella will be missing the ball…Kansas will win. http://www.winelx.com

  • drt999

QOTD — alas, don't follow it. I'd rather pick a Cinderella wine!

  • Waits

Can we have some whiskey on the show? Just do another one right now. That Mott-guy sounds like he could use a BIG-ASS Scotch?

  • cellarrat5

Nice show, good to see WA making a decent showing. It sounds like you are starting to pre-oakmonster it up a little Gary! You have to keep the pre conceived notions at bay, eventually you will wake up in a cold sweat doing the oak monster gesticulations and scare the ever living sh*t out of little Misha! That can't be good.

QOTD: I give this QOTD a 50, only because you asked it in the English language.

  • FingerLakesRVResort

I tend to lean toward Merlot's that have a chocolate note about them.

    QOTD:Louisville-a 9 seed qualifies as a cinderella…..

  • Neil

QOTD: I could fake it and go with UTEP but in all reality I could really give a cr%p about colleg hoops.

  • DaveyJohnson

QOTD: The UVM Catamounts being the first 16 seed to knock off a number 1. You heard it here first.

  • castello

I like me some Glenlevit or morangie. Blantons for bourbon. Is that you Allan masquerading as the WAITS MONSTER?

  • Waits

Qotd from Waits: What is you most memorable Whiskey Experience?

Because you, with a little bit of oak, we're shaking things up, in the wine world!?!

  • XpensiveWino

You will have sleepless nights with that pick my friend. Baylor is a hell of a squad but can take games off, especially on defense. However, if Lacedarius Dunn (remember that name!) & Tweetie Carter are making shots they are great. When they go cold, they don't do a good enough job of feeding Udoh, Acy and Lomers in the post. Dunn went crazy the night we played them, but it still wasn't enough. Good luck with the pick, they might just make it.

  • castello

I forgot to give you shit about the 85% thing. I was cussing myself out because it's one of the fun facts I think(thought)I knew about wine. Then the next wine was only 80% and it is called a Merlowww. 75% is the borderline right!?

  • Waits

  • Waits

“Warm beer, cold women, no i just don't fit in…….”

    Hi

  • All this ranting about Sideways. That was 6 years ago, you mean that the american people, who change trend every 6 months still dizz the merlot because of it?

For me chocolate and wood in the wine can give the same sensation on the tounge and cheeks and I taste a lot of chocolate .

QOTD: Again, have no clue about anything remotely connected to college sports.

  • XpensiveWino

If Kentucky does go all the way I'm sure the title will be vacated within the year. That said, playing in an awful SEC will not prepare the Big Blue for the rough and tumble that lies ahead. I can see Demarcus Cousins having a hissy fit as we speak!

  • XpensiveWino

Or your most memorable Bourbon Experience?!?!

  • Love Washington reds! Had a Merlot awhile ago, Independent, I think it was called. Recommended to me at the wine shop. Pretty good! Loved the 2006 Soos Creek Ciel Du Cheval I rec'd in one of the wine club shipments is my favorite wine I've had. I rated it 93 on corkd.com.

QotD: I'll go with Murray St. If they win the tournament, Gary sends me a case of handpicked wines from WL. πŸ™‚

  • adrums

Nice show. I'm a big fan of Washington Merlot (as well as Syrah, Viognier, et. al.). Seems like you enjoyed the '05 Pedestal WAY more than the '04… did the '05 have far less of a new oak influence? I've only had the '03 (fantastic) and the '06 (almost as good).
    QOTD: Florida Gators.

  • XpensiveWino

Four Roses Marriage, New Year’s day. Bowl Games, Padron 85th Year.

  • adrums

but Gary absolutely bashed the '04 Pedestal, fwiw. I haven't had either, but the '06 is loaded.

  • Waits

George T Stagg Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey probably

If i'm not mistaken it clocks in at about 70%, so go easy on it…. otherwise BOOM

  • I've been wanting to try the Charles Smith wines for a while now but haven't been lucky.

    QOTD: tough call…

  • ahillsey

    Temple or Louisville.

  • Kansas will take it this year and NOT because Obama says so!
