WOW…if I knew it got so much attention I would leave Gary XOXO’s all the time in my comments….. 🙁 I feel left out now. I like Gary with and without a tan. And I do know he’s married….. but I doubt anyone cares about that….it’s only when Randi leaves XOXO’s does anyone care. Hey Gary….xoxoxox!!!!!!

I like Mott too….but he never gets a vacation let alone a tan. xoxoxxo Mott!!!!!

“or a 20 year old dudes room” was one of my all time favorites. I said something about sandalwood incense, old gym shorts and the faint hint of other err incense wafting out of the window. This show gives multifaceted inspiration, music, wine, a little bit of GV mayhem!

I am truly sorry, far be it from me to take a compliment away from Gary. I think he looks fantastic! (in a platonic bromance kind of way GV) In my defense I did not start it! It was elron!!

  • Anonymous

damn! whatever I did to piss you off 1000 times sorry!!!!

    Thankssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • norcalwingman

Like the oak bomb? Sonoma-Cutrer Founder's Reserve and “The Cutrer” I'm still an unoaked, or light oak styles like Les Pierres or Sebastiani Unoaked!

  • the mosk

this is more like “we'll see you yesterday”

  • DaveAll

  • johnfarrin

  • Hey Gary – Great to see you heading back to the oaky Chardonnay. Im a big fan of them. Sad to here you announce your retirement from WLTV. Good luck with your future plan & I hope to see in AUSTRALIA when you come out, Cheers Sam

  • castello

    Top TEN!

  • Yep! Top 10.
    Oaky butter grape juice? Hmmm…
Also is it me or has there been a few too many chardonnay episodes in the past few months..

  • Anonymous

You didnt take away a compliment away from Gary…lol I dont think you can do that…
    He does look fantastic! LOLOL
Its OK, Im sure you look fantastic with a tan too. 😉

  • Cheryl S.

Are you sure this isn't another April Fool's joke?

  • Anonymous

Its OK!!! Its OK! Breathe! LOL

  • Wow…I'm pretty early for once. My mom really loves these types of Chard. Totally will forward the ep to her. Great performance for the wines today. CherylS: LOL, I thought the same thing at first.

QOTD: I have been on a syrah/grenache kick lately, though I went back and had a hardcore cab the other day when it was raining. Sometimes, it's good to go back and visit your old faves. If nothing else, you can live in that personal nostalgia by reimmersing your senses in your glass.

  • Neil

QOTD: Gotta say Gary, I checked the calendar but today is April 2nd. This show would have been a better fit for yesterday. I never would have thought that the Oak Monster would have been so well received on the Thunder Show! Regarding the actual question, I ain't never goin' back………………..

  • Chilemily

QOTD: I've never had California Chardonnay, but I will have to put it on my “wine drinking to do list.” As far as coming back to something, I think after a while I have come back to to good ol' Cabernet Sauvignon!

  • castello

I'm trying to go back to the high school days(late 70's)of drinking some Cali Rieslings and Sylvaner type things. My lady realy like whites, so my search continues in France and Germany. When it's right it's like the best water you could imagine but better. Hard to find the balance between sweet and sour for me.

  • DC7

Jefferson Vineyards Chard., James River Res. Chard., and Wintergreen's Black Rock Reserve Chardonnay.

    Happy Easter!

  • DCaragher

GV – Nice to see you feeling the Cali Chard's…I myself have really been into Chard this part few months. I am also getting into dessert wines big time! Good show, it's nice seeing the evolution of the palette (well…person)!

QOTD: I am starting to come back to Pinot…got sick of hearing all the hype for a while and as of recent I've had some good ones snapping me back!

    Have a good weekend homeslice!

fewwww… sorry… I get a little carried away on occasion. Life returns to normalcy…

  • lucresmith

I tasted my first toasty, buttery chardonnay a couple months ago: a Mer Soleil in a blind taste.

QOTD: Actually, I'm coming back to WLTV right now. I first discovered it about a year ago when I got a job at a popular restaurant with an all Italian wine list and wanted to be learn about wine, especially that I would be selling. Now, with my 21st bday coming up I've gotten really on a wine kick recently and have been watching all the episodes from the beginning. Really love the show, keep it up for us newbies, Gary!

  • randinthecity

    GARY!!!

I like you w/a bit of a tan.
    xo
I think Oak goes better with Chardonnay then say….ANY red wine..my humble opinion.

QOTD: No..never had any of those wines. Im listening to a lot of old R&B music lately!! LOLOL Dunno why…

    Happy Passover!
    🙂

  • johnboston

garyv, it's simple man: you're just getting old and nostalgic :] thanks for today's education. I'm not old enough to be yearning for days of yore.

  • winecrazy

Ahhhh yes…. the kid is growing up. That's waht happend to me years ago…I came back around and did a 180 on wines I used to drink 20 years ago……30 years ago. I used to drink these types of chards and I haven't have a good chard in 30 years, then all of a sudden your sitting there at the Bellagio in Vegas, the Solm suggests something with what your eating and poof……there goes the fireworks and all of a sudden, bamm….you love them again.

QOTD: Well, I guess that comments answers the question so…….Happy Easter Homey!!! And Mottser and the rest or the WL crew.

  • slcmonk

QOTD: I recently lost my job so have gone back to drinking cheap whisky and PBR

  • erikwait

Going back to oakified butterball Chards? Well… that's why Peter Paul made “Almond Joy” and “Mounds” – 'cuz sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't!

QOTD: I was REALLY into Big Ass Zins a few years ago, don't know if I'll go back but I'm sorta gettin' the urge… so maybe the time summer BBQs are going I'll be drinkin'em again.

  • pawncop

An interesting episode, I have pondered on the changing palate but so far I am still pretty much where I was in the beginning. I think it may have soething to do with me still being fairly new and not having experienced the wide range of wines that you have been able to taste.

Q'sOTD – Have not tried those wines yet as I am a fan of the Chablis style Chardonnay but will look for the Clos Blancheau.

This will be a little strange to those outside of law enforcement, but I have come back in a sense. When I was on uniform patrol, I carried a S&W stainless steel 45 ACP pistol as my sidearm. Built like a tank, reliable, I bet my life on that gun, and on two occasions it came through. Did not have to discharge it but one of the badguys I was pointing at, later told me “That was the biggest *** **** hole I ever looked down”

So when I went to plainclothes I found that I had to carry a lighter pistol as my S&W was just too heavy.

About 18 months ago I found a version of the S&W called the M&P 45 ACP that is much lighter than my original S&W and immediately qualified with that gun. I have come home to a sidearm I will bet my life on again.

I know it sounds really strange and those not in the position to understand the dangers we face probably will not see it in the same light but I thought it illustrated your inquiry.

  • I just found WLTV a few weeks back and have been loving it. I'm a little nervous though because I guess this post means I'm no longer an official lurker 😉 I've got nothing for the QOTD, but I will say that I LOVED this line:

“…a real pretty girl who then piledrives you on the concrete!”

  • wmiree

I have left more styles than I have come back to. Like you, I fell in love with Chardonnays as they became more and more oaked, but when they became grossly over the top, I left them for more balanced, minerally, higher acidity white wines. In the last few years, I have come back to Chardonnays with more obvious, well-integrated oak… but not for all occasions. I prefer the more oaked Chardonnays without food (aperitifs, etc), but prefer the higher acidic, more minerally Chardonnays with food.

  • NY Pete

    hey hey

  • elron

    what is going on?

  • MarkFitzpatrick

Going to some Malbec a bit more lately.

Favorite part of show “like a pretty girl who also pile drives you on the street.” What if she did a sharp shooter on you too?

  • elron

I think you might like Gary without a tan too Randi….

    😉 😉

  • guymandude

Oh no, next thing you'll be liking Yellow Tail.

  • MarkFitzpatrick

Awesome huh Paul? – the “pretty girl who pile drives you”

If your new, you'll probably like a “2×4 in the mouth” taste reference too

  • Nothing besides the GREAT ELRON has left a message

  • Pauly KID…welcome!

  • teckdeck2008

Interesting lol. I am starting to appreciate to oaked stuff more if its properly balanced but there is so much wine out there that isn't which scares me away sometimes.

Qotd: For a while there I really loved the extremely dry tempranillo style and I think I'm coming back around to the balanced fruit flavor style wine. Not quite cali style cabs, but the South American style cabs.

  • cellarrat5

Say it aint so Gary, before you know it you will be poring Molly Dooker on your head just like Justin Timberlake pours budweiser all over himself in “southland Tales” (really weird movie By the Way). I don?t mean to hate, I am well aware that pallets do not remain static, just a little post April fools razzzz.

QOTD 1: I have not had any of those mentioned in today?s ep, but do enjoy the Chablis style Chard.

QOTD 2: My musical tastes seem to have changed recently. Listening to a lot of stuff I used to listen to in high school. But my staples will hopefully always remain the same (guess its time to ramble on).

  • NY Pete

I see the vayner-nod made a big comeback today.
