line of the day – ‘Very grapey’

More average wines and hard to make a captivating show as a result. There is, however, one of GV’s best expressions at 8.24, so that’s fun in itself

QOTD – Lindeman’s bin 50 – yeah…high aspirations! But it’s 5 bins better than the 45 on the last episode. Only really dying for it cause it was 3.99 and it I’m about to fire up the grill!

    !st!

  • Great week, Gary. That was really a lot of fun!
(BTW, you said you didn’t get the “lows” you were hoping for.
The Blackstone got 67 pts; how low were you thinking some of
    these wines would turn out?)
Value of the week appeared to be Yellow Tail Shiraz, 85 pts for $7.

I agree, GV. After 900 shows, you have to play with yourself.

  • Shannonabney

gary, thanks for doing these supermarket wines. you are a man of the people!

QOTD: i am hoping to open up a bottle from the Mayo recently acquired in Kenwood!

  • QOTD: I am excited about opening “The Fight” Syrah 04 that I have had locked in my cellar. I love the label so much, hopefully it will be worth it, and the wine wont be ‘knocked out’ by the artwork. I recommend everyone check out that label here:http://www.redcarwine.com/content/redcarwine.html.

Cannot wait for the shows next week. Thank you, Gary!

  • Just Jack

    Nice. Basic but solid.

QOTD: Having the 02 Elderton, Ode to Lorraine red blend out of The Barossa tomorrow night. I got that on Cindy I believe and am looking forward to it.

  • Thanks for doing this series. Trying to develop my palate and this has been very helpful…Trying all three of a category and tasting the difference is helping me.

  • “No highs or lows” ? Gary, I thought you gave the Blackstone a pretty low score (probably deserved). Good show!

The Blackstone merlot is a crowd pleaser (I won’t mention the type of crowd I’m talking about). Just kidding.

    QOTD: Brochelle Paso Robles Zinfandel.

Not dying for it, but I have some KJ summation that was on sale at the grocery store, not a bad white at all, thinking I might grill up a little orange roughy tonight or tomorrow.

  • I love their labels, too! I’m jealous.

  • NeilMc

    QOTD: Chateau Haut Bergey 2005.

  • Anonymous

We need you back on Cindy! The bad guys have faded lately.

  • “Play with yourself.” Haha

Interesting on KJ Cab. We’ll see.

QOTD: I can’t wait to try the 2006 Chateau Haut Brisson La Reserve. But I’m waiting until 2027 to open it with my 4 year old.

I’m getting ready to pop a Clos Du Pic, Chateau Puech-Haut Pic St Loup 05. Not sure what I’m getting into but it’s a Languedoc that I’m hoping is a little like a CdP or Gigondas.

I told you Mott would help your silly ass! Welcome back my friend to the show that never ends.

  • Just Jack

Thanks for the invite. I am sincerely honored that you give enough of a crap about what I say to want me to contribute. I will make my way back over there but it a little bit harder to stay relevant because I decided to hold off on additional Cindy orders until the temps cool down a bit. I know it is silly but I just don’t like the idea of my wine sitting in somebody’s warehouse, even if I love and trust that somebody like I do Gary. I am too possessive I guess. At least that is what my first girlfriend told me right before I threatened to throw her off the bridge if she ever dated anybody else (I didn’t do it of course, but then I don’t know if she ever dated anybody else either because, surprisingly, she and her family moved away very shortly after that).

Started with lots of lovely energy but died off. You need to taste wines that you are passionate about, and that clearly isn’t commodity wines. Looking forward to what’s in store for next week! Have a great weekend.

  • NY Pete

    same old same old Ray
    have a great weekend!

  • QOTD; Doubleback Cab.

    Fun week of shows!
QOTD: Whatever wonderful celebratory wine we decide to pick out tonight or tomorrow! Any and all suggestions will be appreciated- Our granddaughter will be making her entrance in the next hour or two if all continues to finally go well!! I’m waiting for my husband to arrive home from the jobsite while we finish afternoon chores, then we’re on our way! As Wayno would say, YYYYYEEEEEEHHHAAAAAWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!! ;D

When was that? What kind of…… wtf?

  • Anonymous

GFs don’t like threats like that. I’m not afraid of hot shipping. I could get burned but only you get cooked white wine 🙂

  • What? No caps? You are not back to 100% my friend. 🙂

  • Man plans. God laughs. Enjoy your Chateau in the here and now, don’t wait.

Let your son buy you the 2023 Reserve for you. 😀

  • I wasnt feeling the passion for the supermarkets….maybe two episodes was enough.

How about trying some New Zealand syrahs and bordeaux blends coming out of gimblett gravels and hawkes bay at the moment.

  • While I love to support a fellow wine blogger on wordpress.com, not going to lie to you, it is tough to read German. Unlike Gary, I haven’t even taken a German class… so I think I like what you are doing there, but have trouble reading ALL the content.
