I think if GV wasn’t already married he might have proposed to this lady!

What a fantastic woman! I now only wish I were the fourth generation of a family winery. Guess the only thing to do is to be the first one.

Maria Jose is an awesome guest. She makes so many wonderful points. I’m learning a lot.

I even went out and bought an older Gran Reserva.

How can Vayniacs not like guests? Guests are great!

  • QOTD :: What do I look for in wine? A sense of place.

Thanks Gary for an amazing 2 Part Show. Inspirational and informative, what more could you want?

Gary, thanks for following up my tip after the episode with the Marqués de Riscal! 😉
For me, a nice Viña Tondonia is always a treat! Whenever I can, I buy wine from the bodega (I remember having visited the place almost 20 yrs ago, it was a magical experience), and as I live in Spain, that’s very often!!!
Recently, I went to the presentation of a documentary about Spanish wines (Rioja & Jerez) and María José’s uncle has the best part in that documentary, so it’s no surprise to me that MJ can bring over a lot of knowledge!

QOTD : a nice surprise (first time experience or reliving special memory), the perfect “chín chín” with your “drinking partner” 😉

I really like when you have winemaker’s on from other countries. You don’t get to hear from them nearly as much in the U.S., and i love hearing about their wines and point of view.
    I’m psyched for part 2.

My favorite Rioja EVER. IT’S ABOUT TIME!!!

Great great episode. I might have to stop watching this. Everytime I watch it I go directly to the wine store to try to fine the wine.

Thanks Gary.Totally get what you said about it making you hungry and having such a savoury nose. THIS IS REAL WINE! It changes from the first to the last glass, it marries with food (slow roast shoulder of lamb) rather than being like a sauce you pour over food. It’s balanced, elegant and invites you back to drink more.

I LOVE your guest, she is an amazing speaker, the way she describes her wines, with such passionate feeling, sincere and simple. I could see Gary having an amazing time with her presentation.

  • Great show. Love the old school passion and love the idea of a 10 year old Rose!

Wow. What a delightful guest. I am learning a lot. Great start to the interview and the wine tasting. A 10 year old Rosé? I certainly would not think that this would be any good. Amazing.

Excellent episode, good guest, really enjoyed her perspective on the region and her wines.

Qotd: Complexity. I’ve bought a few Rioja’s from WL, but I have much to learn about quality Spanish wines. Wonderful show. Thanks, GV!

Awesome show — thank you so much….one of the most memorable days of my life was at Lopez de Heredia. We were in San Sebastian for our honeymoon. I had always loved their wines — so we rented a car and went to visit. After our visit, we went to Etxebarri for lunch — it was a beautiful day and the visit provided such insight into the place and history. Their wines are very special and very special to me…thanks for having her on the show.

All I can say is WOW. What an excellent show…I’ve been away from WLTV for a while and this was an amzing way to come back. I love Spainish wine and especially rioja.
I too was surprised by the info on blended vintages, I had never heard that before either. And the labeling..this is why wine is so fascinating!
