Good evening, Ladies and Gents! Rarely do I participate in this posting competition of speed and dexterity, but I felt overly limber and swanky today. Allow me to claim top 5.

    Cheers

  • Dexterity, limber and swanky? Do I need to know you better? 😛 Congrats on top 5. 🙂

  • A 10-year-old rose? Very intriguing! Looking forward to watching after work’s done…

  • Great Part 1

  • Nice bottles – 9/10

    Ready for the Thanksgiving pack!

  • Tobias

A wonderful, charming, sympathetic, engaging guest.

  • oops, over midnight. have to sleep, watching rest tomorrow. Rioja is interesting due to their long aging before release.

  • Larry

Lopez de Heredia has long been a favorite for me but none of my fellow wine drinkers seem to appreciate them. The Rosé for me is the absolute best food wine. You have featured these wines so many times, it is good to see one of the people behind them. Looking forward to the rest of the interview.

  • hehe, Gary drank the rodé without the sniffy sniff first 🙂 and swallowed . I guess it was good 🙂

  • Neil

    Good guest.

Wow! LOVE the education. Wish or hope I’m sophisticated enough to appreciate her wines but maybe not having been weaned on California grapes. Would love to try. Anxious to see the Gran Riserva tomorrow. Great show! Thank you.

  • lilgoat

Gotta love the Spanish accent. The winemakers that Gary V has on the show always sound so passionate about their wines.

Gary – Can you please find a Portuguese wine maker to have on your show?
Keep up the great work. Episode 1000 will be here before you know it. Go 49ers!

  • big monkey

One of my favorite winemakers ever. Love their philosophical approach and final product. Gary, could you please stop being so obtuse with the guests, interrupting to make your point about how the sourness makes you hungry is not important enough to stop her from talking. That yellow shirt is something else too, woo hoo.

friggin awesome! cant wait to watch this!

  • TitanicJack

Great guest and a very intriguing show. I’m a fruit bomb lover but will try a bottle of the Reserva or Gran Reserva to find out if it really is “complicated” or just not to my taste. Keep the good work coming, GV. Thanks.

  • VIaDomitia

Best guests you had on the show – ever! Loved learning about pre-1981 labeling customs! Totally new to me too. Now, you should replace the permanent link to the Gretzky show (perhaps the worst guest ever) with this one!!

  • It’s so interesting. I’m usually never bothered by GV interrupting the guests, but this almost made me want to stop the episode. Please, just let her speak. She’s one of the most interesting and sincere guests you’ve ever had on the show. You could sense the frustration in her as she was starting sentences 3, 4, 5 times before she could finish them… poorly done, Gary.

I always enjoy their wines and I’m looking forward to finishing this two parter tomorrow, I just hope she can finish a thought in part two.

Another great guest GV and once again a female. I’ve said it before and will say it again it really seems to me that the best guests have been female. Jancis, Heidi, Michelle, Laura, now Maria Jose. All smart, fun and so wine nerdy. BTW Pre Happy Birthday GV. Jets 35 (for your age) Browns 14 for the date.

Video killed the radio star….. in my mind and in my car, we can’t rewind we’ve gone to far

    Oh-a oh

  • Grill Factor

GV – what about David Meggett – HOLY MOLY

  • Globex

great interview Gary, looking forward to Part 2. Made me thirsty to try her wine, I wish I had a glass of it to sip on while watching.

  • have we reached Gary’s magical number of guests for the rest of the year yet 😉 .

  • Adam C

Great show Gary. I have yet to try a wine from this winemaker, but I must now. They sound exactly like the type of wine that I would love. Too bad Maria didnt also bring some of those bottles from the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. lol Cant wait for the second half.

Great episode so far GV! I have to add a slight criticism: you got so caught up in what she was saying you started interrupting her a bit too much. Your guests whose first language isn’t English have a harder time restarting their train of thought and their hesitations give you an opportunity to break in…resist the temptation! The knowledge and experience she brings to the discussion of Rioja is awesome!

Many of our fellow posters that are worried about enjoying older wines should relax and give them a try. My palate very much enjoys big, “fruit bomb” cabernets but I have tried a number of Gran Riservas and really liked them as well. You won’t know until you try. Also the pricing for for such a mature wine is usually very reasonable, a much better deal than aged Bdxs or Burgs.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    What’s up bro!

  • Dave D

Wonderful episode so far! It’s always great to listen to someone as knowledgeable and passionate about wine as Maria Jose. Gary, looked like she blew your mind with the info on pre-1981 blending and labelling (it was very enlightening). Could you please post a couple more tasting notes for the Rose and Reserva. With all the interesting conversation you didn’t tell us quite as much about the wines themselves as usual.

  • Stellar lineup… I don’t get why anyone would complain about the guests (considering the guests of late, especially).

    Keep ’em coming!

  • NJ Big Chris

Looking forward to episode 2. Awesome guest… its fascinating listening to someone so passionate and knowledgeable.

  • I am super sorry u feel that way 🙁 I am sorry pal, will try harder, I dont think she was upset, we spoke afterwards and it went well 🙂

  • lately we have brought it!

  • Sorry for the interrupting 🙁

  • insane JUST READ IT!

  • Sorry Big, I got excited 🙁

  • María José is a Wonderful lady. Excellent episode! ( Love Rioja as well )

  • NY Pete

I believe that number has been shattered …. all over manhattan … 🙂

What an interesting guest. I really enjoy when the winemakers and winery owners are on the show because I learn a lot and they are so passionate about their wines and wine regions. I look forward to part 2.

OK I really want to try the rose. Where can I get it? Help!

An enjoyable episode, even thought it was clearly two people who like to talk and don’t listen well. I don’t want these episodes every day, but the variety is great.

And who didn’t like the Gretzky episode? That was hilarious, WG was clearly looped and not sure what was going on at all…

  • lol good point 😉

  • sapdog

GV a wonderful, wonderful guest – from whom every wine nerd watching will learn. I wouldn’t worry about the interruption comments – every one of us, in your shoes, would be doing the same, because her passion and knowledge and interest is infectious. Great questions by the way – honest and direct. One of my favourite episodes of the last year.

I don’t think Gary inter………I’ll be right there……….that much at all ……….no wait,I’ll get it …… more than normal.

    Awesome show!Great guest.

  • Anonymous

No tasting notes on the rose?

  • Anonymous

These 31 minutes just flew by! I feel like I sat in on a master class- Maria is a wonderful guest!
Gary- you interrupted perhaps 3 times in a half hour, less than I’ve ever seen. You even excused yourself and asked to be allowed to interrupt! Maria did not have any difficulty maintaining her focus or train of thought. In fact, she has a better command of the English language than most of us do! At any rate, I’m excited for Part 2- thanks!

  • DaveAll

Good guest. she did stay close to her brand image – like an arrow. But that is normal for many wineries as they are very focused on their product. (as probably they should, compared to a wine distributor or wine consultant – which can go outside the box to discuss things) . It is nice to hear someone close to the vine, not just the end result. (i have tamed down from my distributor/truck driver comments, so not that far). She was charming, and GV was normal interrupter maximus. haha. Can’t wait for part 2.
