If you’re the sort of person who might order a wine cellar with a separate tasting area (!) this might be a great episode for you. If – like me you’re never gonna get past the wood and metal concertina-type thing that holds 12 bottles then this episode is probably a pazzzz

  • Great idea on the Calendar app. I have lost many a great bottle drinking them after they have died.

  • Damn good one.

  • I had a bottle of the Cannubi. I need to see if I still have it. Which restraurant Ken? We may have touched base in the past so my apologies.

But he has to be right; he has a PhD (and made sure to address himself as such on an informal wine blog). There is no conceivable way anything he said could be inaccurate. In addition, I went to the website; I could probably design a better website by looking up code writing on Google. If these guys are as legitimate as he thinks they are, they might want to design a better site instead of posting pretty pictures and mission statements.

This was a GREAT show, one of your best. Excellent info. Fantastic guests.

QOTD1: Hmmm, ANYTHING that could be used in Florida…..
QOTD2: Filet mignon, medium, baked potato with the works, sauteed mushrooms, Ceasar salad, and a nice Chateauneuf.

  • I would love to see more “off-site” episodes like this. Love it Vaynerchuk!

  • Good show today! Josephandcurtis.com is a cool website. How does a college kid go about making a wine rack?

  • David M Roberts

Thanks for the tour of that splendid home cellar! Great show with some cool, laid back guys.

QOTD 1 – A “California Closets” kind of concept wherein users can custom outfit unused closets and turn them into mini cellars.

QOTD 2 – Pasta carbonara paired with an aged California syrah.

  • QOTD: I would love to see a cellar that is created completely from reclaimed material from a winery. This cellar would include old barrels, barrel racks, Stainless steel drum and fermentation tank parts. All of this would be used to make the cellar appear as if it were a working winery.

Cheers and thanks for a very informational show

Great episode with a tremendous amount of information.

QOTD – I like Michael Caputo’s idea. Food pairing – Shellfish and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

  • RobinC

QOTD: Cellaring: a cave built outside of but connecting to a house with a glass front showing the wines, shielded from the sun, with a pond with lily pads in front of it.
Pairing: champagne with an assortment of foods – ceviche, cheeses, berries, almond pound cake, cream puffs, whatever else comes to mind.

  • would love to see an episode on more modest sized cellars. Some of us don’t have the funds/room to bust out something like this or the last cellar episode. I’ve been thinking about getting something I can stick in my (California) garage but can never find information on what is the most economical and power efficient. I really wish this show talked about long term storage solutions in the hundreds rather than thousands of bottles. Seems like it would be more accessible.

I don’t think we have. I work at the Capital Grille on 6th and Pennsylvania. Please come by and have a glass of wine with me if you live in the area

Yep Don, I’m still at the Capital Grille. You are welcome any time!

GREAT SHOW GV!!! Nice guys! Although that cellar isn?t my preferred style of design, it?s clearly very well made!! GV, you should do a free-standing cellar (Refrigerator) episode, cause this days only the minority of wine enthusiasts live in houses with space for big cellars. Down here in Brazil, the tropical climate makes refrigerating a must have, so I myself have a 40 Bottles Samsung Cellar.

QOTD2: A Lamb with mandioquinha Gnocchi with a Castello di Ama Chianti Classico 2006 at Piselli, Italian Restaurant in São Paulo ? Brazil.

QOTD 1: An Ingenious is a low cost, ?home-made? option of a free standing cellar made down here in Brazil: It called GelAdega, a conventional refrigerator plus a thermostat. See the article ( http://www.academiadovinho.com.br/geladega/ ) , or translated to English on Bing: http://www.microsofttranslator.com/BV.aspx?ref=IE8Activity&a=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.academiadovinho.com.br%2Fgeladega%2F

What you think about that guys??? GV, guests and Vaynernation ???

    Hey guys and girls,

I responded to the questions yesterday but now I have 2 questions:
-What’s an easy to determine when a wine should be drunk (year)? I usually email the producer when I buy a more expensive bottle.
    – Should all reds be decanted for as long, I have heard and experienced that is mostly young tannic wines that need to breathe for a long time and that older wine as well as burgundys can go flat after too long aeration?

Please feel free to put your 2 cents in.

That looks perfect! If I could read Portuguese. Do they ship to the US?

Was that a watch or a bracelet, I couldn’t tell? That was driving me crazy also. You got to remember where they are, “NJ”! “How you do’n?” “Hey Johnny go get your shinebox.” I know they came from the “Chi” but Chicago has a little of that in them also. 😉

  • 🙂 That explains it!

  • Yes, I’m sure he is right but I always assumed someone with a PhD would be able to write an opinion with correctly spelled words given we have the ability to edit what we post.

I noticed that as well. He is too busy saving academia from necrosis, or perhaps it’s too late. He might be trying to slow the decomposition process.

Hi Castello! It’s a ?home-made? Cellar, you buy a conventional freezerless Refrigerator and a Thermostat and it’s done!!

    Translation: http://www.microsofttranslator.com/BV.aspx?ref=IE8Activity&a=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.academiadovinho.com.br%2Fgeladega%2F

You could buy a freezerless Refrigerator like this, and add a thermostat to better control the temperature:

Give GV a break. The show has been a thunderstorm lately.

  • LurkerKing

Also, real lurkers don’t post pictures of themselves in their icon. It’s clearly stated in the lurker code sec. 21.5B – Lurkers will not identify themselves to non-lurkers.

QOTD: no outside the box ideas for wine storage, though when I lived in an apartment and there wasn’t room in the fridge to keep wine and beer cold, outside on the windowsill was effective.

  • Interesting! Had not thought of retrofitting a fridge for this.
