Wow – this guest could speak for America and win an Olympic medal. GV couldn’t get a word in edgeways. Luckily, he was very entertaining an knew his stuff (even if he did say ‘snooty Brits’.) Just for the record…we’re not all snooty!

That was fun! Just got rid of the Aerobed- too funny. Let me guess- Mark is still using milk crates and boards for bookshelves, too? (It does greatly simplify moving, I’ll grant you that)
And informative! I also agree with Mark on Washington vs. Cali.
Looking forward to part two, and reading his book!

Only if you see Mott at the store, otherwise Mott has very nice god like qualities

  • These are the episodes that blow my mind. Thanks for having such an amazing guest who brings wine out of the clouds. Washington State is on my radar, and I can’t wait to seek out the wines you showcased. I went out of order on my comments, (posting a comment for every episode), but this is a special episode. The types of down-to-earth, crush it mentality people that you bring our attention to is the best example of transparency I can think of. Learning about other peoples paths to success as it relates to wine is one of the biggest reasons I love what you do!!! You are an ultimate motivator!

Gary, I’m a lucky Betz mailing list customer. Please let your fans know the list is closed, however, the last I heard there is a waiting list for the mailing list. I encourage people to join the waiting list.

  • Gary, very much appreciate the show – amazing two part interview – making wine more accessible is terrific. 1st comment on the site — QOTD have not had bad sommelier experience but couple curiously bad wine service examples – here is one – sitting at the bar, Bistro Milano off of Sixth Avenue, order a 2004 Barolo, see that the bartender pours something else – ask him – completely changed the wine. Said they were out of what i ordered, which happened to be a $17 per glass Barolo on the top of their list. Really bad because it’s so easy to just say, oh we’re out of that.

Excellent guest and wonderful episode. This is exactly why I became interested in wine. The conversations were informative, witty and just fun.

Interesting guest. I had some mixed first impressions at the top of the episode I must admit, but I like this dude’s style. I’m looking forward to part two and maybe even considering checking out his book.

Good first half. I also enjoy Washington reds and recommend them to people for good value. I need to take my own advice more often. This is one guest who does not look or sound like a wine dude at first, but obviously knows what he is talking about.

qotd: no real horror stories but once the somm recommended a st joseph and I tsted it and I didnt like it / get it at the time and it wasn’t decanted and he saw my face so I felt awkward. But I mean with the meal it was amazing but that was my fault for being so young in wine back then

I was a little unsure of the guest at the start.. but after a while I thought he was excellent. Will check out the book.
