Solid quickfire show

For what it worth we have a few cases (literally) I can ship it to you what state do you live in – as for reviewing the little guy it may not mean much to the average consumer but man is it a big deal for a small start up business just trying to make great wine and get it out there! : ) so it really matters to us … just for another side of the coin we aren’t all big well funded wineries – thanks so much everyone for the enthusiasm for our project we are TRULY grateful!! – clare : ) the wife and label designer cheers!

Ummmmm yeah… no offence, but you must not watch this show very much.

qotd… However you do it…me thinks a commemorative secret pack would be a good thing for a least one of the occasions. Congrats in advance!

You guys are all a little FREE SWAG happy. Who do think Gary is “OPRAH”? “And you get a car, and you get a car, and you get a car”. 😮 😉

This was a post to Winecrazy

I would chalk my vote up as being some combination of C and D; with a possible E thrown in there of a double guest appearance of Sasha. It would not be any kind of 1000 episode celebration without him.

So impatient to see that 1000th… !
All the 8 crus from Romanée-Conti on the same show…Would be a MAJOR FEAT!! 😉

Btw, thanks for the tip, i just found some 2009 Morgon from M. Lapierre, and yes, it’s very good juice!

    Cheers!

Why not and combine it with some outstanding wines with free shipping.

I know, lets go on another THUNDER CRUISE to celebrate!!

As usual you are right on the money with the “smoke taint” flaw. I often liken it to a somewhat similar flavor to VERY peaty Scotch (Ardbeg, Lagavulin or some of their peat saturated counterparts) although with Scotch this is a desirable characteristic and is very carefully crafted to taste like this. In 08 there were hundreds of lightning strikes near the Mendocino area which triggered and unprecedented amount of wild fires. I have talked with a grower or two from the area and they said that around 30% of everything they pulled in after fermentation and racking still had that smoke taint characteristic. I do not find this particular “flaw” desirable, but then again Brett and other less noticeable flaws are relished by some. In the end the mantra of the Vayniac masses holds true, everyone should drink what they enjoy; cheers!

  • I say combine the 5 year show and the 1000th! Very special occasions and one big party is always better!

  • Anonymous

Thanks guys! I’ll definitely try that and let you know how it goes.

We are new to WLTV and we see that there has never been an episode on Sardinian wines. I am from Sardinia (Italy) and have a great vineyard close the town I live in (Alghero) called Sella and Mosca. Check it out at http://www.sellaandmosca.com. A great cabernet sauvignon is the Marchese di Villamarina.

Do what you need to do big man! It’s not worth killing yourself and sacrificing your business time or more importantly your family time. If you want to invite me to the wine lib for your 1000th show on the 5yr anniversary and open a bunch of 1981 wine (my birth year) I’m up for it!

BTW… I was the one who walked you back to your hotel after the Chicago offline geez… like in april of ’07?? That was a great night!!

    Keep it up Gary!

  • Nice show. Sure, combine the 5 year with the 1000th! Why not?! Will make for more frequent episodes for us to watch leading up to it, which is always a good thing!

  • My wife and I tasted at Big Table Farm last May and we loved their Pinots (08 Resonance Vyd) and Syrah. They also had some some amazing appetizers to taste…the smoked fatback bacon was to die for.

Glad to see you back on your game. The Bourbon episode was too much of a downer to watch.

Some sort of combination would be fun, like 2/21 & 999th so that 1000 would be on the first day of the 6th year of WLTV. Whatever you wanna do is OK by me.

Love Viognier when its done right. How about a “Viognier around the World” episode as part of the festivities? A commemorative “1000 episodes of Thunder” wristband is something I’d be interested in seeing happen. Heck, you could have an “Ultimate Geek” contest or just let me buy some. ; )

I realize I can never quell the Australia bashing entirely on this forum or any other, but hopefully this might help a little:

  • QOTD. A special 1000th episode would be awesome. It all went downhill IMHO for the celebratory episodes after 200 which was the greatest of all. If you have to do something to make it happen on the 5th anniversary then it’ll be a double celebration. But think through what you’d want to do that day.

Always hear a lot about Oregon Pinot and liked this review since on my visit last September felt the wines were hyped. Have you done a Carneros Pinot show? Both areas are often compared.

BTW sorry about your Jets. I’m a big fan of LT and was glad he had a great season with the Jets. Next year……

  • laurensNL

    QOTD: yeah a superspecialgv5year1000showsanniversaryshow!

Qotd: I think you should definitely link this two up somehow. It would be amazing. You should also go live that day and have your 2 or 3 best posters from the comments over the years get a couple minutes over a teleconference or something talking about things they remember or particularly like.

Also talk to disquis or whoever this company is that does your comment board. It is horribly inconsistent. I’ve heard it’s because I’m doing this on my iPhone, but come on it’s 2011 people. You have to be prepared for that. And you are mr tech and social media. Get this bro.

Great show. I’d love to see a show on the Paso Robles area soon. Keep up the great work.

    Yours,

    B.S.

I have been able to for some time now – I knew you were going to give one of them an 87 right off the bat. I don’t know if there’s a way for vayniacs to interact and post what the score you’re going to give any particular wine would be but it could be a cool feature…

Btw, I hate to be a clown but this episode started off as whine library tv.

  • Alexandre-CF

    Really Nice labels.

QOTD: yes, yes and yes. I silo be amazing if u link the 1000th episode with the 5th aniversary.

  • Anonymous

sorry for your jets, good show love pinot noir and riesling, i will be looking for your 1000th show and happy 5th aniversary.

  • Randall

    Don’t worry ’bout it, PGz… ‘taint nothin’…

Good to see you a little less depressed, Gary. Nice show. I love Oregon wines in general. I’ve had the Penner-Ash Pinot Noirs and they are very good. I’ll have to try the Viognier.

QOTD: You know, while part of me says that would be cool to have the 1,000th episode be on the WLTV 5th anniversary, part of me thinks that averaging about a show a day until then will be a little brutal on you and tough on me to find the time to watch them all in s short period of time. On the other hand, if you celebrate your 5th Anniversary Show with a special show and then your 1,000th episode with special show, you can have two celebrations in short order which would also be kind of cool. So I am a bit ambivalent about the question. Do what you like and do it well – everything else will work itself out.

Yes! A THUNDER CRUISE sounds like a great idea to me.

  • Anonymous

Thank You for all you support Mr. McMurphy

  • Pretty sure that is a chantrelle or another type of mushroom on the riesling

    QOTD: Doesn’t really matter

Did you go on the first one??

QOTD – Y.E.S. yes yes yes.

The 1000th show on Feb 21st a great idea!! That’s my B-day baby!!

  • Love the Virginia-Viognier shout-out. I would agree its our strongest effort. Try our Cab-Francs. They bring the greenness your palate is so fond of… Had a Blenheim Farms Cab Franc 08′-tobacco notes were right from the historic soil of an old tobacco field. What terroir can say that?

QOTD: “Quality over quantity.” from Lizzie

  • Anonymous

I think that you should have either the 999th or 1000th episode on February 21 for the fifth anniversary.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Gary, I know you lov a challenge, and I know you will find many ways to rise to the occasion. GO FOR IT!

  • Anonymous

Also, Mr. Andrus’ Gypsy Dancers were no slouch. I found I’d preffered several to even the old timey Archery Summits, on price/price delivery… and Adelsheim, Keegan ( now into Syrah, I’ve read), and many more

QOTD: do what you want to do because that’s what you do!!!!!!!!!!!! you won’t disappoint

I’ve been watching WLTV for 3 years and have left a comment every show, just sayin’. Sometimes I fall behind but I always catch up. I’ve been working with wine for 2 years and expandng my palate regularly.

Someone else did note the color, or lack therof, in the Viognier. Penner-Ash wines simply do deliver tasty quality, and its a little bit of extra good, when a wine does that, even though its appearance would threaten, or belie what is inside. as for the folks at Big Table, I’ll keep anopen and enthusiastic eye out for their appearance, but thus far, they’re new to me, but it’s always good to be kept up w/ the small, artisans and well crafted producers. Thanks for the exposure. As for Archery Summit, I was never as totally gung ho for them as I was Pine Ridge Winery, across the board, more or less. There were one, or two that were more exceptional, butI’m very sorry to say, I thought their price pointswere a tad high for what I’d tasted, cumulatively. However, gary did make a HUGE comeback (I felt) with the Gypsy Dancer wines – almost everyone of those were more generous, voluptuous, and even sexier than the leanness I’d repeatedly encountered in A.S.

Note : January 30, 2011, will be the 2 year anniversary of founder Gary Andrus’ passing.
Belated condolances to his widow, family, and friends, and may she, and they carry on with success in his legacy.

Qotd – keep ’em separated, and let each milestone be it’s own event!!

  • QOTD: That would be kind of cool. Go for it.

  • Caroline Langevin

What an amazing show, you tell it like it is, and it’s fine with me
    Bravo Gary xx

  • Caroline Langevin

LOVE Viognier!!! Discoverd it one year and a half ago. Superb spring and summer wine!!!Bravo Côte Du Rhône, Côte-Rôtie beeing first!!!

  • Dustin

QOTD: Keep Piling it on, the more stars in alignment the better. Plus, I would love to see more shows more often.

  • QOTD: Yes, definitely roll it into one huge show. Film it in the cellar room or the downstairs part of the store, have everyone in the store be part of it, bring in as many amazing guests as you can. You could even do a round robin, where everyone goes around the room real quick after tasting each wine and shouts out a short description that’s weird or crazy (eg. “deer on the highway,” “asparagus wrapped in gym socks”). Make it an hour long, gussy up the store baller-style, and just have a hell of a good time. It’s something to celebrate!!!
