Lines of the day, This wine smells like a steak’ and Mott’s pretentious home run, ‘would you say it’s big but it doesn’t lose control’. I bet Mott can’t believe he said that.

Steee – rike. Great show helped by a couple of stonking wines

qotd: Toronto Blue Jays – we suck now, but I was a 12 and 13 years old when we won the series back to back. The memories are so good that I'll cheer for them until I'm dead and buried.

  • Clemclone

Love Foxen. Will have to make a run up there and restock…

  • SEFB

My favorite baseball team is the Yankees. I enjoy going to the games and have been to playoff and World Series games in the last 14 years. Growing up I was a Mets fan and went to the games on Saturdays and Sundays as a teenager. My favorite season as a kid growing up was 1973 when the Mets were in the playoffs and I was there when Pete Rose and Bud Harrelson had their fight and all the fans were throwing things onto the field. I also saw the World Series that year when the Mets lost and got to go to the game with Vida Blue pitchng against Tom Seaver.

GaryVee – True indeed the Isosceles is home to the oak monster. Thanks for calling it like it is and not buying into the Justin hype. Rumor has it they are waaay overproducing and trying to still come across as a small-er vineyard. Ask around.

QOTD: Gotta go Boston Red Sox!

  • ColoradoRick

'63 Cards. Definitely. And, you're right. Too many strikes and drugs have convinced me to move on. Baseball is no longer a part of my life. Wine is my lifelong love.

  • Zers

Thank you GV. YOu are over the top, but I love that about you. San Fran Giants baby all day long. Cheers.

  • Russ

great show. Phillies fan all my life! Go Flyers too….

  • I look forward to being able to consistently afford these wines. Maybe its time I treat myself to one this weekend.

    QOTD: Red Sox. Forever.

  • lau1

Yes you are (back on the saddle)! Great show, thanks for that. It's a bit hard to get good American wines over here in Denmark, though we are lucky to have a little shop here in town who's gone all-in on that.

If you have a few secs to spare I'd love a few pointer on their selection http://www.vigneron.dk/Sortiment/Nord%20Amerika

A little late to the party, but I have to say… GREAT SHOW!
    That Pinot looks dope.

QOTD: In the late 80's and early 90's I was a HUGE A's fan, but I have to say that I've been rockin' the orange for the Gigantes for the last 15 years.

The isoceles seems to get more uneventful with recent vintages. I was able to taste this wine in cask, just after bottling and upon release ( about 6 weeks ago) and the problem is their committment to cab sauv over the last few years. This wine was much more interesting when more cab franc and merlot were blended. The justification continues to be far more complex and cheaper. You Are right however. The
market wants this style. Great show.

Nice show Gary. Love the Wind Gap packaging.
We need more K. Murph. Great smile.

  • JayZee13

Come on, KMurph! Wine Advocate gave the 2007 Justin Isosceles 89+ points which is the lowest rating they have given that wine in a long time. So I think GV was pretty much in the ballpark with his score. The Foxen Pinot sounds good. But it also may have been the vineyard. Cambria produced a Julia's Vineyard Pinot in 2006 that Wine Enthusiast gave a pretyt good score (93 points) and I had that wine last night – it was excellent.

  • JayZee13

Oops! I forgot the QOTD: My favorite baseball team is the Cleveland Indians because I was born and raised there. Yes, they currently suck. My least favorite baseball team, without any doubt, is the New York Yankees. Until baseball gets a salary cap of some sort, nothing will change.

We were in SB County this weekend from Chicago and stopped by Foxen. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the wine, but it has absolutely no character. Fruit yes, character no, and interesting – definitely not. This is the problem with such a young wine region. We had a 2005 Gary Farrell pinot from the Bien Nacido Vineyard two weeks ago. Same idea, lots of fruit, no character. The best pinots we had this weekend were from Longoria, balanced and interesting, but not overly so. When I open a bottle of pinot from Oregon or the Russian River, I can smell the place. The Foxen (and most from the Santa Maria area) have no sense of place.

  • Good show captain. Yes, captain…

    The Cubs…It's brutal…I'm a Cubs, Bills, Jazz fan…How awful…Last title 1906…For ANY of them (0 total for Jazz/Bills)

    QOTD: RedSox.
QOTD: The year Yaz retired. 1983? I was just a kid but I went to both Yaz Day games at Fenway.

Gary reviewed the 2005 Isosceles on episode 447 on a laid back Friday. Ouch, two strikes against this wine for GV. Anyone on their way from San Fran to Southern Cali? A perfect stopping point is in Paso Robles at Justin Vineyards. Just beautiful!

    QOTD: The Phillies, natch.
