Great show. I have GOT to pick me up a good Tokaji. I had a tokay (not a true Hungarian Tokaji) a long time ago that I just loved, and I’ve never had the real juice. Soon.

QOTD: The best draft pick I ever made was grabbing Dennis Eckersley in a new fantasy league the first year Oakland made him into a reliever. He posted the league lead in saves the next year, and had two more great years after that, including his incredible sub-1 ERA season in 1990.

QOTD: I dont play any fantasy leagues, but if I did Id go with Peyton Manning…. Im purchasing a true essencia, and I CANNOT wait to dig into that in 3-5 years. I know Im going to be in heaven. Watching all these shows, I dont know that Ive seen one where I havent grinned or laughed out loud at your antics. Keep it up. Its people like you that make people like me love wine.

Great episode GV. Been a fan of Alex and Kevin for a long time and was stoked to see you do a show of wines they had picked. And apparently, Mars has left the Universe – good to know.

Gary, I only have time to watch one EP per week, so this was it. Very glad to see the review on the Panther Creek. I was looking at that one and remembering some of the great Panther Creeks we had back in the mid-90’s when we lived in Portland (of course the winemaker was different then). Have to say I’m pretty disappointed in the review of the Grant Burge. I recently anty’d up for a bottle because it scored in the same range and similar price point as the Jasper Hill Shiraz you raved about a while back – and I was going to compare the two some time down the road. Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against fruit bombs – we love to throw palate to the wind over a Molly Dooker or Marquis Phillips every so often. It’s just that I thought the Meshach would be at least somewhat more old world based on the prestige you mentioned and the Spectator description. SO… my question to you is whether or not you agree that this wine would be “best after 2011″ as the Spectator review says, or should it be drunk earlier. I’d like to know because most likely I will not buy another bottle of the Meshach based on your description. To answer your question early in this EP, I hope you do bring viewer question(s) back, because it rings true to your end tagline for every EP.

Love the Tokaj but that is a bit on the pricey side for that type of wine. How many puttonyos in that baby?

QOTD: I don’t know about my best draft pick but since I am answering this on Monday afternoon AFTER the NFL draft I’ll say that I’m very happy with the Browns in getting a great lineman and IMHO, the best quarterback available in this year’s draft in the SAME round. Brady Quinn is going to have a great NFL career!!

Oh, QOTD: 16 oz of Rickard’s Red in Windsor Canada in 1998.

Nice… good to see the Panther Creek as I’ve got that exact bottle in my cellar, which I bought at the winery by the way, my girlfriend went to school in Mcminnville. Panther creek is sweet.

Hey Gary … I’m pretty sure the ESPN cameras caught you just after the Jets’ trade was announced. How do they keep people entertained at the draft for the 14:59 seconds in between picks?

I’m so late but I just have to add my two best flavors in wines. For sure it is Roseleaves and truffes as in good Barolos and Barbarescos, it’s to die for (or something)
By the wayTried a Richebourg from Dom. A-F Gros more than a month ago, I still recall the flavor.

    Gary
time to get tight . Some of the good wines of Languedoc are getting such of a ooplah treatment (recently Clos des Soutyeres, for example) that I would like you to introduce the best wines of Saint-Chinian area (Navarre, Canet-Valette, Domaine de la Madura etc.) And the geography is as great as the juices! Languedoc is vast, and this is one of its great terroirs…
Boy, you’re fun ! There should be a link on your video on our English crash courses…

Great show, and YES I think answering one or two questions/episode is a good thing.

QOTD – truth be told, Curtis Martin 3 years ago when he was supposedly “washed-up” and I grabbed him in one of the final rounds.

    Thanks CM!

Gary ain’t leaving WLTV. NPR? Can you say ’sucks ass’ on NPR? In the national spotlight can you slam over-rated wines? Can you just speak your mind without corporate sponsors threatening a smack down? Gary ain’t Martha. Wendy sees him soon putting together a perfect case for ‘mr. and mrs. america’, and doing ‘commentary’. Jeez…boooring! Who would listen? Gary is a visual guy. Seeing him is a big part of the charm and success of WLTV. And would the modest compensation and program changes his bosses would surely demand possibly be worth the instant flood of posts and e-mails, the love, Gary now enjoys with WLTV? He makes hs own rules, and then he breaks them! He may branch out, but he will not abandon this blog or the people, (the ‘you’ of ‘…and a little bit of me…’). The internet is where it’s at. TV or radio will get you a modest domestic market share, but the internet gets you the world.

Heh, behold the power of Wine Library TV. I went out tonight and bought 2 bottles of the Panther Creek Pinot. And I *just* bought a mixed case to the tune of $300 bones.

Wendy, I think you are right. GV is on the verge of stardom, and soon we’ll be left in the dust. I shall cry into my pillow every night.

As someone else said: …because me and a LOT of Wine Library TV, are putting a big dent in my bank account.

DUDE! vayniak nation takin’ over the airwaves! a profile on our very own gary vay-ner-chuk on NPR (KPCC in Pasadena/Los Angeles California) on Saturday, April 28th at 8:45 in da morning! It was awesome! totally cool. but, i see the future…our boy too busy to host wine library tv. fielding calls from radio and tv stations to do commentary on the burgeoning interest of mr. and mrs. america and how to put together the perfect case of wine, too busy to respond to our pathetic and uninspired comments on his brilliantly funny and incisive tasting notes. enjoy our boy while he’s still with us.

Pumped up Gary! that was a cool episode. I wrote down the Grand Burge Meshach Shiraz on my little shopping list. I’m embarrassed to have to admit that I’m one of the ones that have not sent my picture with the awesome wrist band. I must, and I will.

Best draft pick? The Blackhawks get the number one pick this year. Unfortunately the Blackhawks can ruin any party. And with no clear, top candidate for the number one spot, its a crap shoot. Patrick Kane is posting big numbers but does he have the size to play in the NHL? Voracheck is getting good press but his numbers aren’t as impressive as Kane. And can he transition from playingin Europe to the NHL? Cherpinov is getting good press too but his numbers are poor. True he’s playing in a mens league so there’s more significance to what he has but….still he’s not lighting the place on fire. This will be one of those situations where the first round pick is no more significant than the third or fourth since you can make a case for any of the top 4 or 5 players. This was not the year for the Hawks to get the first pick. But then, that’s the Hawks. They can take lemonade and turn it into lemons.
