    I must try that Tokaji!!!!

QOTD: In 2000 I had the 2nd pick in the draft and some idiot took Edgerrin James first rather than Marshall Faulk(Best #28 ever), who then happend to score 26 TD’s that year. I still didn’t win my league.

Very cool ep. Those two kids were hilarious!!! Are they your brothers? Well, kick @$$ episode…theirs I mean. I’m an elementary school teacher in NYC and these kids really remind me of my kids.

Let me get your opinion, or anyone else’s who cares to suggest. We, my friends, brother and I, wanna go on vacation. We are in our 20’s and we want to go somewhere we can drink exceptional wine, eat exceptional food, and have a really good time in the beginning of July. Where would you go besides Napa?

    Thanks!!!

Loved the episode and this week was one of your best string of episdoes in a long time. And you know what?? All of us here in Chicago are going to take some credit for that! You have had wonderful enthusiasm and are really catching your stride!! I think we changed you!!…;)

Please bring back questions! I think it is a great part of the show that is missed. I was watching some older episodes and was thinking exactly that, I miss you answering questions!

Have a great time this weekend at the draft. I will have to record it on DVR to watch for you. Try and get on camera after the Jets first pick!!

    Pauly,

Walla Walla, Washington has some GREAT wineries. Pretty quiet town, but they have a few really good restaurants. Pricey, but fantastic food: White-House Crawford & 26Brix. Slightly scary, but AMAZING food: Taco van on 11th & Rose. Not kidding. Two of the wineries recommended it & I’m glad they did!!! If you go, Va Piano, Basel Cellars, Northridge, & K Vintners are musts. Also Walla Walla Vintners! So much wine, so little time…

    Best Draft??????
1987 RAGBRAI Registers Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa
Got in a 30 man draft for over 40 miles,,,, have never scene corn fields fly by so quickly,,, and I drove a ‘73 Olds Vista Cruiser with a 350 in it….. but I digress….
Best draft I was ever in,,, until the lead guy blew a tire,,, looked like a bee hive,, everyone scattering to not run into each other.

QOTD: Uhhh…… I’m going to have to say…. as it said on your sign….
    “DRAFT THIS!”
I, sadly, don’t know anything about it. The only draft I’m familiar with is Final Draft, the scriptwriting software, and then also the cool air flowing through my mom’s house in Maine – very draft-y.
Sorry, Vay-Vay — this Q is way out of my scope.
BUT I loved this episode. And the part about the Oak Kangaroo. Fantastic.

Gary, awesome show! I love the Tokaji! First dessert wine I ever had. Was aweeeesome.

Thanks for putting up my photo. For all you Vayniacs wondering which one I was, go to exactly 13:00. I’m Mr. Smiling wristband guy with my hand over my head.

Tonight I opened the 2004 Clos des Soutyeres Coteaux du Languedoc Les Verrieres, which I bought because you recommended it on video. Wow. Seriously brought the thunder. So much so, that it woke the neighbors and set off a few car alarms. (But my toddler slept through it. Go figure.) My thoughts on this baby (as recorded for posterity on Cellartracker.com): Awesome nose of dark cherry, a little blackberry, and underlying hints of dark chocolate and maybe even a minty whiff – very slight. Dig in deep with the nose, and get a layer of wet dog blanket. But in a good way. (A little Brett. makes the French wines, in my opinion.) Integrated attack of cherry, dark berry fruits coated in dark cocoa, and spicy. Great tannins, balanced with the alc. and fruit – make this a very sophisticated $20.00 wine. Super lengthy, rich finish of berries, cherries, and a light lingering spice. Mmm. This one is really doing it for me. Gary V., you were dead-on, buddy. This rocks. I was going to give this 91, then 91+. But forget it. I’m working through the fear, and going 92 on this juice. It has earned it.

Gary, have fun at the draft tomorrow.

  58. April 28, 2007

    TagWorld Brian

Oh and yeah, please go ahead and answer more viewer questions. Sounds good. And how about having viewers send in more photos? It would be fun to see the face of the person, as you’re reading their question.

Best draft: Miller Genuine. (Drank 6 at a party in high school.. Woke up on the shag carpet.)

Veoh winner: cheesewizlonelygirl15? Well, you know why? Because she asked us if we wanted to see her topless. She didn’t even OFFER to go topless. She just ASKED US if we’d want that. And that was enough to tip the horndog scales, I guess. Way to play the Vayniacs, Ms. Processed Cheese Spread. (By the way, Sunny Gault on Veoh has got some super white Chicklets teeth! Dang.)

Finally, … nah, there’s no finally. I just really love this Languedoc that you recommended. I’m going to sleep with my wristband on tonight.

  59. April 28, 2007

    Garret Nagle

    Hi Gary!

I thought I’d ask you if you would be offended being called the “G-Man,” since the New York Football Giants are the “G-Men.”

Also, if I sent in my wristband picture to your e-mail, is it possible it didn’t get to the right place to be featured on today’s show?

I’m not one of the bad people you talked about today! I promise! (what e-mail do I need to send it to?

    Thanks,

    Garret

Hey, great ep. Gary, freakin’ enthusiastic this time. Love Tokaji. Never had an Eszencia though, it’s so extremely expensive for smby just started workin’.
Hey do that: an ep. for people who just started working. Pick me some wines I can afford to open once a week and some once a year.
    C ya.

  61. April 28, 2007

    SS Chris

    WOW!!…great Episode..great wines…ReDONKulous energy level

You tasted the Chateau Henye Tokaji for the first time back on Ep. #39….and you gave it 95+ ….pretty damn close….you sure you didn’t sneak a look at the SS before??

AND…that episode was exactly one year ago on 4/27/06…a little freaky!!

Always enjoy the questions (but you should move “Ask WLTV” to the FORUM…you are one stubborn bastard, arent’ you? So much more action over there.)

    Best Draft…easy…SS Dede of course!!

  62. April 28, 2007

    Marc

I loved the wrist-band clip; especially the Chassid. That kind of suprised me considering the crappy wine they sell at the Kosher store here in Iowa.

QOTD: Insisting to my friend that he should take Amare Stoudemire as his 11th round fantasy basketball pick for Amare’s rookie year. That kid was SICK at the McDonald’s game and dunk contest and apparantly I was the only one who noticed because nobody else wanted to take him right out of high school.

By the way, if anybody is looking for a good party time this time next year, go to Des Moines for the Drake Relays. Kicks Ass! Not only will you get to see Master’s champ Zach Johnson, but a city of 600,000 seems to have 1,000,000 partiers this time of year. Definitely one of those things to see and do before you die.

  63. April 28, 2007

    Greg B

OK, Gary. No Lurker Bendoni here. I love the episode, but that’s right, But, 60-70 Bones Dog. I don’t get no freakin Expense account. Can we see some 93-97 Wines under 35? QOTD. #54 from New Mexico State. Oh, by the way I hope T. Jones brings his A game for ya, because it’s all about Benson in 2007!

    Bring it!

Best draft pick? The Blackhawks get the number one pick this year. Unfortunately the Blackhawks can ruin any party. And with no clear, top candidate for the number one spot, its a crap shoot. Patrick Kane is posting big numbers but does he have the size to play in the NHL? Voracheck is getting good press but his numbers aren’t as impressive as Kane. And can he transition from playingin Europe to the NHL? Cherpinov is getting good press too but his numbers are poor. True he’s playing in a mens league so there’s more significance to what he has but….still he’s not lighting the place on fire. This will be one of those situations where the first round pick is no more significant than the third or fourth since you can make a case for any of the top 4 or 5 players. This was not the year for the Hawks to get the first pick. But then, that’s the Hawks. They can take lemonade and turn it into lemons.

DUDE! vayniak nation takin’ over the airwaves! a profile on our very own gary vay-ner-chuk on NPR (KPCC in Pasadena/Los Angeles California) on Saturday, April 28th at 8:45 in da morning! It was awesome! totally cool. but, i see the future…our boy too busy to host wine library tv. fielding calls from radio and tv stations to do commentary on the burgeoning interest of mr. and mrs. america and how to put together the perfect case of wine, too busy to respond to our pathetic and uninspired comments on his brilliantly funny and incisive tasting notes. enjoy our boy while he’s still with us.

  76. April 29, 2007

stoked to see the panther creek! shea vinyard!!!!! i’m gonna pick up one of those now….

  77. April 29, 2007

    Malarkey

Heh, behold the power of Wine Library TV. I went out tonight and bought 2 bottles of the Panther Creek Pinot. And I *just* bought a mixed case to the tune of $300 bones.

Wendy, I think you are right. GV is on the verge of stardom, and soon we’ll be left in the dust. I shall cry into my pillow every night.

As someone else said: …because me and a LOT of Wine Library TV, are putting a big dent in my bank account.

  78. April 29, 2007

    KenP

Gary ain’t leaving WLTV. NPR? Can you say ’sucks ass’ on NPR? In the national spotlight can you slam over-rated wines? Can you just speak your mind without corporate sponsors threatening a smack down? Gary ain’t Martha. Wendy sees him soon putting together a perfect case for ‘mr. and mrs. america’, and doing ‘commentary’. Jeez…boooring! Who would listen? Gary is a visual guy. Seeing him is a big part of the charm and success of WLTV. And would the modest compensation and program changes his bosses would surely demand possibly be worth the instant flood of posts and e-mails, the love, Gary now enjoys with WLTV? He makes hs own rules, and then he breaks them! He may branch out, but he will not abandon this blog or the people, (the ‘you’ of ‘…and a little bit of me…’). The internet is where it’s at. TV or radio will get you a modest domestic market share, but the internet gets you the world.

Great show, and YES I think answering one or two questions/episode is a good thing.

QOTD – truth be told, Curtis Martin 3 years ago when he was supposedly “washed-up” and I grabbed him in one of the final rounds.

    Thanks CM!

time to get tight . Some of the good wines of Languedoc are getting such of a ooplah treatment (recently Clos des Soutyeres, for example) that I would like you to introduce the best wines of Saint-Chinian area (Navarre, Canet-Valette, Domaine de la Madura etc.) And the geography is as great as the juices! Languedoc is vast, and this is one of its great terroirs…
Boy, you’re fun ! There should be a link on your video on our English crash courses…

I’m so late but I just have to add my two best flavors in wines. For sure it is Roseleaves and truffes as in good Barolos and Barbarescos, it’s to die for (or something)
By the wayTried a Richebourg from Dom. A-F Gros more than a month ago, I still recall the flavor.

Hey Gary … I’m pretty sure the ESPN cameras caught you just after the Jets’ trade was announced. How do they keep people entertained at the draft for the 14:59 seconds in between picks?

  84. April 30, 2007

    Licinius

Nice… good to see the Panther Creek as I’ve got that exact bottle in my cellar, which I bought at the winery by the way, my girlfriend went to school in Mcminnville. Panther creek is sweet.

Love the Tokaj but that is a bit on the pricey side for that type of wine. How many puttonyos in that baby?

QOTD: I don’t know about my best draft pick but since I am answering this on Monday afternoon AFTER the NFL draft I’ll say that I’m very happy with the Browns in getting a great lineman and IMHO, the best quarterback available in this year’s draft in the SAME round. Brady Quinn is going to have a great NFL career!!

Gary, I only have time to watch one EP per week, so this was it. Very glad to see the review on the Panther Creek. I was looking at that one and remembering some of the great Panther Creeks we had back in the mid-90’s when we lived in Portland (of course the winemaker was different then). Have to say I’m pretty disappointed in the review of the Grant Burge. I recently anty’d up for a bottle because it scored in the same range and similar price point as the Jasper Hill Shiraz you raved about a while back – and I was going to compare the two some time down the road. Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against fruit bombs – we love to throw palate to the wind over a Molly Dooker or Marquis Phillips every so often. It’s just that I thought the Meshach would be at least somewhat more old world based on the prestige you mentioned and the Spectator description. SO… my question to you is whether or not you agree that this wine would be “best after 2011″ as the Spectator review says, or should it be drunk earlier. I’d like to know because most likely I will not buy another bottle of the Meshach based on your description. To answer your question early in this EP, I hope you do bring viewer question(s) back, because it rings true to your end tagline for every EP.

Great episode GV. Been a fan of Alex and Kevin for a long time and was stoked to see you do a show of wines they had picked. And apparently, Mars has left the Universe – good to know.

QOTD: I dont play any fantasy leagues, but if I did Id go with Peyton Manning…. Im purchasing a true essencia, and I CANNOT wait to dig into that in 3-5 years. I know Im going to be in heaven. Watching all these shows, I dont know that Ive seen one where I havent grinned or laughed out loud at your antics. Keep it up. Its people like you that make people like me love wine.

Great show. I have GOT to pick me up a good Tokaji. I had a tokay (not a true Hungarian Tokaji) a long time ago that I just loved, and I’ve never had the real juice. Soon.

QOTD: The best draft pick I ever made was grabbing Dennis Eckersley in a new fantasy league the first year Oakland made him into a reliever. He posted the league lead in saves the next year, and had two more great years after that, including his incredible sub-1 ERA season in 1990.
