qotd: i really like both if the quality's there. altho, with my tasting experience, it seems that overall the most complex wines are old world.
Gary, how about giving us an episode where you have a vin jaune on?
  • richardvinifera
QOTD: Reds- Dirty Bomb. Whites- Dirty. Too much oak, fruit and not enough minerality on new world whites at that Thursday evening price point.
  • Phredd
QOTD: Depends on the day. Some days I want a fruit bomb, but some days I want a more laid-back, less in-your-face, more roll-in-the-mud kind of style.
  • bromidedrag
    Hey Gary,

I'd say I'm a dirty bomb kinda' guy, but I'd love to try a down right dirty wine some day.

I came across this video in you library looking for a review of Dominus... I just bought a bottle of the '05 Dominus (from wine library) to put away for 10 years to celebrate mine and my wife's 10 year anniversary. Really looking forward to it... glad to see you're a fan.

    spanish BOMB!!!
  • Dessert Wine Nerd
Quite clear at this point that youre feeling the alcohol and the fatigue... But still bringing the humor! Love it! QOTD: I havent drank a lot of old world style of wines, so by default Im a bomb.
  • Exdamyankee
    QOTD - I guess I'm a dirty bomb too!

Time & place for everything. Props for mentioning the Pillar Box Red, currently my pick for best QPR in the new-world fruit-bomb world.

That said I had a nice inexpensive Cotes-du-Rhone with dinner tonight (Paul Jaboulet Aines Parallele 45 '06). Drinking dirty & loving it. Time & place man, time & place.

    Cheers!
  • Valentin
    I say dirty!

Where is the "oak monster riding my-little-pony through a rainbow of fruit-candy" t-shirt???

    Gary,

I went looking for the Villacreces (WL was out) and found 4 bottles for $24, Once I have had a chance to give it a taste, I will post back with some feedback.

    Thanks for the heads-up.
  • How the heck did you get through all of those. Hopefully someone drove you home.

QOTD: I think I'm in the middle. Dirty Bomb
  • JayZee
Way to go, Gary! I wasn't sure if you would make it through all of the episodes. Thanks for sacrificing your day for us. We really do appreciate it. And they were all very good shows. A shame about the 2003 Villacreces since it was supposed to be the 2004. So I went and just ordered a case of the 2004.

QOTD: Dirty Bomb, dude! (Maybe a tad more Dirt than Bomb?)
  • Scruff
    QOTD: Durty Bomb
  • DocSpine
Hmm how about a blackcat firecracker encased in some fresh loam. Not too dirty and not too bomb
  • Jeff
Picked up a 6 pack of the Villacreces 03 and I'd have to politely disagree with your 94 pts. It was good to start but after 30 minutes, it got disjointed.
Does not have the lasting power of the dominus. Compared to the dominus I'd stick this around 88. Keep up the cool show!!
  • I just bought the Villacreces. Looking forward to trying it. Thanks Gary!
  • More Puerto Rico catch-up posting...

QOTD: Bomb... but everyone likes to get Dirty every now and then.
  • Russ J
Dude, you were PLAYED when you shot this! Way to hang tough!

QOTD: Dirty bomb with a little more emphasis on the dirty.
  • QOTD: bomb with a pile of dirt on it.....the dirty bomb
  • mcj
    QOTD: Dirty Bomb
  • Kirk
QOTD: GV......I am the dirty bomb...tasted the Jeorge Ordonez profile yesterday. It was Re-donk-ulous! I had to literally sit down with the 2004 Clio and sort out my mind...great show.
  • Larry
Dirty, as in back to mother nature. Like the kind of thing that goes well with a charred filet mignon!
  • Jeff
QOTD: Dirty but once in a great, great while in the mood for bomb!

I can't believe you're still tasting. Nice job and thanks again for going the extra mile.
  • damon aka unknownwine
I'll have to go with a really really dirty dirty cheezy bomb.
  • sharon
You know it's the sugar that's the issue not the fruit. I guess I would be a Dirty B. as those fruit bombs (though tasty) tend to give me migraines. I tend to go for the dirt. Herbs and vegetables.
Thanks also for bringing up "manipulation". Yeah the "chemist monster" is a big turn off. I like the surprise of earth and weather rather that what they can do in the lab.
  • Jeppe
    QOTD: BOMB
  • Winodontist
    QOTD: Bomb
Nice episode, appreciate the honesty regarding Australian fruit bombs.
  • Dirty bomb Fco. coming through! (That sounds like it should be bleeped out). But in all I consider myself lucky. I have friends very into old world wines and others that are very open minded. So I kept an open mind myself. I think, like you say, there is a time for each sort of wine and I am able to appreciate the differences....except I am new to the game so that could also say that I do not know what the eff I am talking about.
  • ecola
    BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I like the bombs!
But I don't enjoy one or two note wines, they gotta have something odd going on. I've gotta tilt my head and squint one eye and try to figure out what I'm smelling a little!

    QOTD: Bomb Dirty....
  • TR
Gary it's very hard to find any Australian wines for a modest price that aren't OTT with candy fruit and oak. Perhaps they are confusing oak for tannin. One I would love you to try is the Penfolds RWT (red wine trial) Sourced from several small west Barossa vinyards it sounds promising. Parker 92-96. Please let us know if it is real wine or not before we shell out 90 bones for Aussie kool- aid. Unfortunately, you can't trust Parker when it comes to Australian reds.
If you're between Greece and Turkey check out Patmos it's non touristy there's a monastary there for the lunatic who wrote revelations. Kos is also a great island if you like smokin hot lusty Swedish babes.
    Good times.
  • Even the 11th was still great. Kudos!
@fatdoi: think them great too? Mmh, have had every vintage yet. None, I repeat: NONE of them disappoints. Sheer greatness, and still reasonably priced.
QOTD: I am definitely a dirt(y) bomb. No prejudices and depending of the food I'm in for.
  • fatdoi
nice one gary, can you next time try the 'brother in arms' shiraz from langhorne creek? like to know your comment......
  • YoungDave
GREAT energy 11 Eps. in! Keep it up for just one more...

QOTD: I'm a bomb that's trying to expand my horizons and starting to get dirty...a bomb that is gradually burrowing in the dirt...
    Hell, I'M A LAND MINE!!
  • JW Park
Dirty Bomb I guess. But I'm still learning~
Thanks for the great show. Way to go~~
  • Panoca
BOMB BOMB BOMB all the way, baby!!!
  • Justin S
My .02; I wish that the Aussies would try to make some stinky Shiraz.

QOTD: Deep down I'm just dirty
  • Dave-from-Katonah
    QOTD - dirty bomb
"Sometimes you feel like a nut sometimes you don't!!"
That's the way it is w/ me. I love a CoteRotie syrah or stinky CdP and of course Pomerol/StE/or Medoc.
But man, I also love a huge fruit bomb once in a while, eg Garretson Bulladoir! Have not tried that Upslope syrah yet, but I know I'll like it. It all depends on the situation...

Great string of show here, Gary! Way to burn the midnight oil before Vaca.
  • Tad
QOD...I feel like everyone is riding the fence. As a result I'll take a side and say I like the Dirty Dirty
