    Gary-
You missed an opportunity to perform with these Sea Smokes.
The winery owner was the inventor of the “pocket fisherman.”
You could have used one to reel in the lurkers.

You made my day when I woke up and saw that you had done Sea Smoke. These are by far my favorite Pinot’s. I prefer the Southing over the other 2 and am lucky enough to be on “the list”. I hate that I have to sign up to buy wine, but what the hell, it’s damn good.

I host a blind tasting at my home every February (we do it then because there is literally nothing else going on that time of year) and it is a killer good time!

QOTD: not sure yet, my wife had 2 glasses of Yellow Tail Shiraz at the horsetrack last night.

The special bottle dinner will take place next week and the wine of the evening is a 1945 Chateu d´Yquiem with a very good (i.e little) space between wine and cork.
Blind tasting party have allready occured but there will def. be more.

QotD : I dont know yet. Going to dinner at Stockholms new all-foodies-talk-about restaurant. I´m sure it wil be good.

    Hi Gary,

Love the show. We have been big on the Botella for the last 3 vintages. Can’t wait to try the 2005. I also love your blind tasting comment at the end. Anything can happen & it did with our Blind Pinot Noir tasting. Here is the link to the blog post on our upset winner.

Love your show. I’m entertained and learn a great deal.
I was fortunate enough to get a sizable Sea Smoke allocation. Noticed you placed Sea Smoke above Kosta. Was that a bow to the E-Parker & Tanzer pans? You rated them quite highly in a previous show.

    Keep up the good work

stop lurking eh…. guess i should throw something in since now i’ve been sucked into winelibrary tv since the slate.com article.

thanks for the kick-ass show, gary. i got onto the sea smoke list this year and bought one bottle of each. they’re all sitting in storage now. i’ve never tasted sea smoke, and i’d be pretty upset if they ended up sucking. good to see that you led the way with tasting them!

Great show! I tasted SeaSmoke, courtesy of KenP, for the first time at the Seattle Tasting a short while back. When I saw that there was a bottle open it was the first thing I poured. Brilliant wine. I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for this one.

I did the special dinner party already. It was an incredible time. I have yet to do the brown bag party but it look like one is brewing in Seattle…you’ll have to head to the forums to check it out!

Mason, I feel your pain brother, but think it is more of a case of “demand outstripping supply” situation than a snobby winery not wanting to sell you their wine. That’s what they’re in business for! To sell you their wine. They don’t judge you! You judge their product.
Let’s face it, you (and me) came to the party a little late and the good ones are taken. There’s just not enough to go around.

On a more hopeful note, here’s a list of who they distribute to publicly taken from their website, call those distibutors! Tell them you want some sea smoke. Good luck and hope you connect with some soon. regards, wmole

Wow you were on Fire! 1st of all I was wondering if the bandaid you tasted was not the “bad” yeast known as Bretteanomyces aka Brett. 2ndly the hand in the punt thing was um maybe a little suggestive and made me a little uncomfortabe. 3rdly…
QOTD; Maybe a 375 of 2003 Raymond Lafon because I looove marzipan and what to see why it excited you so much. (and it’s a special occasion.)

I’m going on a dinner train Saturday, have ordered rack of lamb, and figure to dust off my one and only Estate Bottled Benziger 1989 Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. I hope it has held up. It was a great wine 25 years ago with tons of structure when I bought it. Gawd, I hope it isn’t vinegar! Wish me luck!

Gary – would love to see more on the French Chenin Blancs. I had a 1990 Viking Vouvray and it was such an amazing wine. I had no idea these wines existed until 3 months ago and it is like a whole new world.

    Hi,
My name is Dan. I have been a lurker for 2 weeks now.
I agree with DirtBag, yes, please use a paint shaker on the episode to convey bottle shock.
Hello from Beijing, China. I will return to Michigan this winter.

QOTD: I’m drinking a bottle of Chateau Beauchene 2004 Cote du Rhone(pretty tasty, I got it on sale!) with a bottle of 2004 Hecula Castano on base. I’m slowly drinking my way through Spain and the Cote du Rhone region of France from the comfort of Northern Kentucky and loving every minute of it! Go Bengals!

Love the show…wow, now I want to track some of that Sea Smoke down…sounds awesome.

QOTD: MD-Two Left Feet; a Muscadet (never had one); Ercavio, and maybe Mer Soleil Silver Un-oaked Chard (if I get through the others)

So many wines, so little time…

  24. August 11, 2007

    Mason

Sea Smoke? What? Oh, yes…another one of THOSE wines that I will never be able to taste 1. because they don’t sell it to retailers…and 2. because I live in a state with crappy alcohol laws. Well, I will just have to take your word for it. Personally, though, I think nothing sucks more than a snobby winery that won’t distribute wine to the public for consumption on all fronts. If it is that good, let us have it! What are you afraid of? Middle class Americans like myself buying your snobby a$$ wine? Good show in spite of it though, Gary.

QOTD: Since it is only a blistering 100 degrees down here, I chilled a bottle of Grahams 20 Yr. Aged Tawney Port for a nice weekend of drinking. I am also going to a tasting tomorrow with some Syrah/Shiraz and “other whites.”

QOTD: Not sure what I will be drinking, it’s my batchelor party, but I’m sure it will have a bouquet of stripper perfume.
