Gary, This is my first post, so you have de-lurked another! I applaud your desire to have people shake up their respective wine worlds! I think you should make a “Gary’s Mystery Picks” link and showcase some of the better odd values that people should try. I am thinking about interesting whites and reds that are good values and unusual. That way, if people are making an order there would be a tickler of the “oh yeahs…” that they should try.
Keep up the great work and don’t take the thunder out of the thunder show! Perhaps a Barbie spit bucket would soften your image? – Joe
QOTD: I had a Rasmussen Petit Syrah… very nice!

DOC 1982 La Tache. Have never had a burgundy this old before/ Lots of funky mushrooms leather and cherry. Very interesting but glad I wasn’t the one buying this though it was bought in 1984 it was stil expensive in today’s dollars.

I’m so happy I didn’t set myself up to be called out for ordering the same old wines. I’m very excited to try a Refosco again for the first time in four years.

Gary, cool friday episode. I don’t think I ordered anything I have tried in the past I was just excited for free shipping ( thank you)
QOTD- Chenin Blanc, I have been trying different ones all summer long.

Nice show, Gary. And I want to second the review on the Joie wine from B.C. A definite must for anyone who wants to try–and can track down–a good BC white.

My new thing was to try a method of doing steak that I’ve always heard works well. On the BBQ two minutes each side, then into the oven on a cast iron pan for about 10 minutes. Worked well!

Sorry about the Jets, Gary. My advice would be to give up on watching pro sports and find another hobby. Have you thought about wine?

    Best,
    Canuckchuk

    Hey Gary,
I didn’t thank you yet for the free shipping… You are great! Thanks! Keep up the good work!

QOTD: I liked a lot the Freixenet Brut that you always pan, I think it was fresh and tasty. You should give it another chance. Apart from wine, I went for the first time to a football game (Michigan vs Notre Dame) and I liked it a lot!

A lot of Gary packed into an 8-minute show — and on a busy Friday, that suited me just fine!

QOTD: A friend I met in 2002 — opened up a whole new world of fun & interesting things to do.

Have a great 24-17 weekend, Gar’!

    Gary, Gary, Gary!!!!
Pah-leeze!!! Couldja get rid of the plastic ‘guy toys’ and get something a little more interesting on your set for Women??? Couldja possibly have something artsy or foody, or political, or cultural, or musical, or ANYTHING BUT THE PLASTIC ANIMAL AND MONSTER TOYS—”Thunder show??? What the Hell is that??? Women are watching your show probably more than men! And by the way darling, women are probably bigger wine consumers than men, any day of the week!!! I’m not asking you TO BE FEMINE, I’m just asking you could you make an effort to appeal to a feminine audience? (no spell check on this posting site-ughhh)
Okay honey, you asked for lurkers to comment, so I’m commenting, now let’s see how quickly you can act in response…………….

    Very good episode.
QOTD: I recently went to a wine tasting with wines from Italy, where i tasted vino from Basilicata. That was a superb experience.

QOTD: Working at a new job, a fine dining restaurant with a REDICULOUS wine list, I’ve been training and get to try a lot of free food and wine. I’ve tried foods and wine varietals that I’ve never had before, including (food) foie gras, filet mignon, hamachi, caviar, and more, and have tried old and new world pinots, Bordeaux, Vaqueras, sparklers that were 100% pinot, chardonnay, or even pinot munier, and a ton of other wines on the list that are entirely new to me. Great educational experience so far…

Headed to Paris next week and one of my target restaurants is a little Corsican joint. Don’t know squat about Corsican wine but that’ll at least my new attempt, whether I like it or not. ;)

Nice, brief episode. QOTD: Sangiovese Rose from Napa. Silverado’s Sangiovese Rosato was a huge surprise. I haven’t been digging the Sangiovese out of California, probably because I like it from where it grows best, Tuscany. Anyway, the Rose was on the tasting list on a recent trip to Napa, and it was awesome. I would not have tried it otherwise, and I actually found a few more out there. Very nice to see Rose making some headway out there. This one is great, one of my favorites at Silverado that day.

QoTD: It’s not exactly new, but newish; making my own goat cheese which is a whole lot easier than
I thought it would be to make and so…I Mean SO much better than what you get in the market (even the high end ones).
As far as wines go, thanks to my sweet husband, we try something different every weekend so much of the time we forget what it was we had. And it’s not always rewarding. That’s why we like listening to your recommendations!

Something new?? How about something old? Tried an older Red Burgundy with a good friend- 22 yr old Grand Cru that just rocked our world. My friend is the Owner/Winemaker of Fernwood Cellars – Santa Cruz Mtns appellation winery. He makes big reds from his vineyards, so I like to share elegant, graceful reds when we get together- mostly Bordeaux or Spanish Riojas- this Grand Cru was wonderful. Had bright fruit and no browning. We took about an hour to drink it… never fell apart like older wines can (ie. Napa Cabs!).
    Cheers Gary!

QOTD: Took your advice and tried Albarino. Went out for Chinese (they don’t deliver out here in the sticks) and had the Burgans 2005 Albarino afterward. Very nice.

Gary, a little bit of YOU is already changng my wine world, and I thank you!

Cardio Kick-Boxing. I thought it would be cheesy…but it was fun getting aggressions out on the punching bag. My legs and abs are so sore, I can barely get out of a chair. One of those things I thought I’d never do….but really glad I did.
