Headed to Paris next week and one of my target restaurants is a little Corsican joint. Don’t know squat about Corsican wine but that’ll at least my new attempt, whether I like it or not. 😉

QOTD: Working at a new job, a fine dining restaurant with a REDICULOUS wine list, I’ve been training and get to try a lot of free food and wine. I’ve tried foods and wine varietals that I’ve never had before, including (food) foie gras, filet mignon, hamachi, caviar, and more, and have tried old and new world pinots, Bordeaux, Vaqueras, sparklers that were 100% pinot, chardonnay, or even pinot munier, and a ton of other wines on the list that are entirely new to me. Great educational experience so far…

QOTD: I recently went to a wine tasting with wines from Italy, where i tasted vino from Basilicata. That was a superb experience.

A lot of Gary packed into an 8-minute show — and on a busy Friday, that suited me just fine!

QOTD: A friend I met in 2002 — opened up a whole new world of fun & interesting things to do.

Have a great 24-17 weekend, Gar’!

    Hey Gary,
I didn’t thank you yet for the free shipping… You are great! Thanks! Keep up the good work!

QOTD: I liked a lot the Freixenet Brut that you always pan, I think it was fresh and tasty. You should give it another chance. Apart from wine, I went for the first time to a football game (Michigan vs Notre Dame) and I liked it a lot!

Nice show, Gary. And I want to second the review on the Joie wine from B.C. A definite must for anyone who wants to try–and can track down–a good BC white.

My new thing was to try a method of doing steak that I’ve always heard works well. On the BBQ two minutes each side, then into the oven on a cast iron pan for about 10 minutes. Worked well!

Sorry about the Jets, Gary. My advice would be to give up on watching pro sports and find another hobby. Have you thought about wine?

    Best,
    Canuckchuk

I’m so happy I didn’t set myself up to be called out for ordering the same old wines. I’m very excited to try a Refosco again for the first time in four years.

  • DOC 1982 La Tache. Have never had a burgundy this old before/ Lots of funky mushrooms leather and cherry. Very interesting but glad I wasn’t the one buying this though it was bought in 1984 it was stil expensive in today’s dollars.

Gary, This is my first post, so you have de-lurked another! I applaud your desire to have people shake up their respective wine worlds! I think you should make a “Gary’s Mystery Picks” link and showcase some of the better odd values that people should try. I am thinking about interesting whites and reds that are good values and unusual. That way, if people are making an order there would be a tickler of the “oh yeahs…” that they should try.
Keep up the great work and don’t take the thunder out of the thunder show! Perhaps a Barbie spit bucket would soften your image? – Joe
QOTD: I had a Rasmussen Petit Syrah… very nice!

QOTD – What was something new that I tried that I liked? Definitely the Antinori Tignanello, I’m more of a Pinot guy and had not ventured a lot outside of the U.S. I also liked the Portugues Douro Redomo

The FedEx man just dropped off my new wines and my TIGHT like nuts & bolts Lurker T. Looks like the wife and I are going to have a good week. I don’t even know what I ordered, just picked some wines from the Best Buys section of the site. That’s the good thing about being new and ignorant, no preconceived ideas. Thanks for the new threads. I am sure I will get some comments from some Dallasites this weekend.
    How about those Cowboys!

Yo, Missy, take a Midol and relax, will ya? If you don’t like the Thunder and the toys, that’s tough. It’s GARY’s show, NOT yours. If you want political, musical, artsy or whatever, then turn on The View. And who are you to tell Gary about who buys wine? He’s been in the business of selling wine for a long time. I think he may just know who his customers are. If you don’t like what he’s doing, then STOP WATCHING!…or at least go back to lurking and keeping your fool mouth shut.

QOTD: Calling ’em as I see ’em.
