Gary – I’ve had both the Franciscan and the Justin, and I prefer the Justin.

Better late than never! Just had some Franciscan 2005 Napa Cab and enjoyed every bit of it. Seriously, good stuff. And as much as being the first person to comment is worth celebrating, the last person to comment should also be worth celebrating! HAHA!

QOTD: Going to my wine shop on Saturday for a German wine tasting…. Can we say yum!? Also working and hopfully not letting preping cases of peaches get me in a bitter mood.

Re-watched this one since i just opened a bottle of the Justin after seeing this episode last year. Thanks for the recommendation on this one GV! Also funny you mentioned your book coming out this May in this episode! Seemed like a joke at the time, guess not!

Not much to add. I am curious about the Clos Du Val. I am very familiar with the name but not tried it yet.

QOTD: Surf team practice for my daughter’s middle school.

Gary: You were unfair to Clos du Val. It always tastes awful the first few years then it is great.

Great job in picking 4 good California wines. Franciscan has been close to me for many years. This year I am moving on to Justin. I have to say SIMI was missing in your lineup. Keep up the great work!

QOTD: I spent the weekend in Lexington, KY betting on horses at Keeneland and watching Kentucky play there asses off to beat LSU. What an awesome time!! Oh yeah…and of course I enjoyed several wines in there as well.

Perfect timing! It’s my dad’s birthday and he loves cab. I was putting together a selection for a present, and now I have some things to add to my list.

QOTD: Went touring in the Texas wine country for my dad’s birthday, found a few things that were pretty good for Texas wines. One really nice, smoky Longhorn blend that’s perfect for barbeque and Mexican. Then I spent the rest of the weekend refinishing some furniture.

QOTD: What I did this past weekend was celebrate my wife’s birthday. She turned 31, and we had a big weekend of it all.

QOTD: Did this weekend… Went to an Oktoberfest party and then drove up to my parents’ house three hours away to get some furniture from their friends on the cheap.

I tasted the 2004 from Hess and thought it was pretty decent. I definitely agree with you that it’s light, it struck me as something that people who are generally white wine drinkers might enjoy as an introduction to Cab.

Catching up on WLTV is tuff. watched this (and watching the sox not hit westbrook) while drinking the ‘03 justin orphan, which is good, but not great. i really like many of justin’s wines (love isosceles) so i will try the ‘05 cab and the the franciscan.

QOTD: If you mean last weekend, it was sat. nite sox at fenway following by an early sun. morning trek to the meadowlands to watch the (your) anemic jets (lose…which you already know). If you mean this weekend, it’s hangin’ with the fam and going out with friends on sat nite (wine will, of course, be included).

P.S. as i sit here varitek hit a 2 run homer to cut the indians lead to 4-2 (hear we go…I may be up long enough to finish the bottle….)

We were really disappointed in our recent visit to Clos du Val. I’d never had it before, and I really didn’t find one redeeming wine on the tasting list.

QOTD: Meeting with web guy for our wine site on Saturday led to a bottle of Cerreto Monsordo Langhe Rosso, Le Mistral, and our Collina Serragrilli Barbaresco; all were very nice. Today has been relaxing, preparing for another week on the road in wine sales.

More excitement next week…I hope. We’re looking for Springsteen tickets for Sunday in Chicago, just before Vinitaly.

    Hey Gary,

I picked up a bottle of Waterbrook Columbia Valley Melange 2005 which I really like! Have you tried it, and what is a Melange?

    Can I get a wristband?

    Thanks,
