Liked the concept for this episode and am looking forward to the next few like it. QOTD: I dont drink out too often, as the price is obviously inflated. I usually enjoy a good dessert wine after my meal, and the place where I have enjoyed wine the most is again Cafe Juanita. Just all around flawless and never any complaints of any kind.

I lived in Winston-Salem, NC for six years before I moved back to the northeast. My wife and I used to eat at a restaurant called the Zeveley House. We got to know the owner and chef pretty well. Their basic wine list was OK. However, they had a reserve list that was pretty good and a cellar that had some gems in it.

They used to let me go down into the cellar, pick a bottle that I wanted with our meal and then drink away. I had picked a 1988 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe a couple of years ago along with a 1988 Leonetti Cabernet from WA.

OK. That should have read, “Cleveland, OH and NOT NYC”. Doh! :-)

Cool episode, but now I know why I live in Cleveland, OH and NYC!!! (Good) wines by the glass here in NE Ohio are about $10-12 per glass at MOST.

QOTD: Sticking with the Cleveland value, we have a number of restaurants here with GREAT wine lists such as Swingo’s on the Lake, Giovanni’s, and The Vue. An excellent Italian restaurant that has a nice Italian wine list at tremendous value is Lago in the Tremont section of Cleveland.

    Wow, those prices were ambitious!

QOTD – I’ve not been to a restaurant in the UK where I’d come back for the wine. In South Africa “CasaLinga” was great (in fact most of the restaurants there were cool for wine) and in Amsterdam “Toscanini” had a great selection.

My fave place to drink wine is a wonderful wine bar called D’Vine in Mesa, AZ, which brings all kinds of little-known wines to the table in flights so we can sample and enjoy something other than the standard big hitters. I discovered Four Vines Zins and Jeff Runquists Zins there. Can you tell I like Zinfandels?

Gary, keep up the good work. I love the show and learn from every single episode.

I heard RAD, I am waiting for a RADOOL.
QOTD: Lake Park Bistro. Great bottle selection and they always have a Gigondas by the glass.

Favorite restaurant for wine? These days no doubt the Pluckemin Inn (New Jersey).
Great list at amazingly reasonable prices.

    Great show, Gary.

QOTD: Erling Jensen’s in Memphis TN. Their Som carries a fantastic variety, and all at fairly reasonable prices (for a restaurant).

Love the format of the show, lets do more. I would like to see if you could do this as you move around the world. Let Mott out of the store for a change and show him the world

Barberesco with fish?! Are you f@$#*ng kidding me? I don’t care how acidic it is, those tannins would freaking kill your palette.

    QotD.(As promised).

-Trois in Atlanta. Why? Because I normally do not buy wine when I go out. On a college budget, I’m sticking with water most of the time. HOWEVER, when i do go to a nice restaurant, and decide to fork over some cheddar (normally on a date with the girlfriend), I almost always trust the server/smoliers recommendations after we have placed our meal orders. The best so far? Trois.

QOTD: “Purple Wine Bar and Cafe” in Kirkland, Washington (also Woodinville and Seattle). Huge reasonably-priced by-the-glass wine list and great food. Their wine & cheese flights are fantastic.

I had a good Rueda at a seafood restaurant recently – Bodegas Naia Las Brisas 2006. Generally when I eat at restaurants, which isn’t often, I will try a wine that is new to me, when they have it.

Yeah, Mark E! Nice ‘epilogue’ episode! QOTD: I almost never eat at restaurants. And if I do, I don’t drink wine – not at THEIR prices. I’ll eat, and then go home and drink a bottle of my own later, at a reasonable price.

QOTD: I don’t have a favorite restaurant to drink wine, since I had my daughter, I hardly go out anymore…LOL. Plus, the less I spend on food, the more I can spend at my local wine shop!!!

QOTD: Cesca in NYC! Tons of great italian vino per la bicchiere.

QOTD. Some of my most transcendent wine experiences have been in restaurants. However, in Chicago, restaurant prices for wine tend to start at about 3 times the retail price (not wholesale price) and go up from there. Food without wine is a sad thing. Feeling ripped off is a sad thing. So I don’t go to restaurants often.

If restaurants in this country charged more reasonable prices for wine, people would go out more, order more wine (and food), become more comfortable with the idea of wine as just the drink you have with dinner (as opposed to the stuff you have only on special occasions), and it would really change the wine world. How do we make that happen?

Sure, there are plenty of arguments for why restaurants have to charge more for wine than retailers do, but come on, retailers have to make a profit, too. Those arguments do not account for the magnitude of the price difference.

QOTD: Don’t have a favorite restaurant for wine. As long as the company is great the wine always tastes better.

    Great ending!

I liked the episode pretty much, the NY Tour is a great idea in my opinion! Also liked the epilogue!
