QOTD: Saffirio Barbera 2007 (with a little gnome on the front, made me intersted, but wary!) £17 in the UK.

    Favorite Barolo:
2001 Riserva Cannubi (Fratelli Serio & Battista Borgogno)
Not only a great wine, but I brought back a case of it from our trip to Italy last Fall. This place is actually in the town of Barolo, where we toured the facility and had a tasting. It was perfect!

Piper’s Pit hands down the best segments in WWF history. Possibly a close second any Ultimate Warrior promo because the rambling insanity tumbling out of his mouth was priceless. Annnnnywho….. More wines for me to try. Gary youre going to bury me! Might as well go to my local wine store and buy everything in house, eh? Damn me and my young wine palate. QOTD: I believe the last one I had was a Barberesco. Quite pleased with it, too.

oooh – I’d love to try the Sforzato Valtellina! Sounds Yummy!

QOTD ~ I gave my friend an Antinori Tignenello in November for her birthday since it’s her favorite wine. In December at our WoW – Wine on Wednesday – Christmas party she had opened it and smuggled a glass into Cru for me to taste, VERY NICE! Loved the Old World meets New World while grown in the Old World terroir.

Dude I love all your shows (tear…) but the ones about wines that are totally new to me are my favorites. QOTD: none. But now I have one to search out.

Hey GeeVee … it’s been SOOOO long since I tuned into a show (due only to my new job which is keeping me too busy). I can say without hesitation that I have missed you terribly! Checked out the FREE SHIPPER of the day, the
Sandro fay sforzato valtellina 2005, watched this excellent episode, and ordered myself a bottle! Thanks, as always, for helping to broaden our palates! Waiting for another “free shipping” offer to get a case or two, so please keep me posted! Hope you and yours are well. Darcey says hello!

Like Kirk I’m catching up on episodes at the moment and love it when you do the unusual ones.

QOTD – I’m trying a lot of Southern Italian wines recently, love Nero d’Avola, delighted in Aglianico – but always keep coming back to Amarone.

Italian wine? Hate the stuff. Don’t know why. It just bores me. I’m a French wine guy!
I tasted one Italian wine I sort of enjoyed and I don’t even know what it was because it was just the house wine and I only got a glass. Ah well. Chateauneuf de pape, anyone?

QOTD: I can’t say “best” because there are so many good ones but I enjoyed 2005 Paitin di Pasquero Elia Barbera d’Alba Serra Boella

GV – interesting show – always love the Italians.
Probably one of the more interesting wines I have had from Italy that was new to me was a white from Sicily with indigenous grapes (can’t remember the name, but it was good) and a wine from the Piedmont called Spinetta – it was a blend of Nebbiolo and Syrah (I believe) and it was tasty!

QOTD: I already emailed you about mine. The Laurentina Verdicchio Lore, hands down the most exciting wine I’ve had in a while.

Great to be back watching the show again. It has been a busy past few weeks…and I’m finally getting caught up.

QOTD: I’d have to say the most interesting summer white I’ve had was a Cococciola from the Abruzzi region. It offered a nice body and excellent acidity to go with food. For the lovers of Sauvignon Blanc it is a great transition into a white with good body that still delivers the acidity, green apple, and lemon flavors.

    Thank you for the information.

QOTD – Not many Italian wines yet, some basic Chantia’s. The list gets longer each time I watch.

I often try new Italian wines, random Rosso from here and there, or wine varietals I hear about from WLTV. This was a summer of wine discovery.

Hi Gary – Hmmm well there are so many great Italian wines, what comes to mind is the Isole e Olena Ceparello which is pretty sublime.

Good show, Gary! Keep those obscure Italian wines coming!

QOTD: Lacrima di Morro d’Alba. (That’s the grape variety.) Despite the word “Alba” in the name, the wine comes from Le Marche, not Piemonte. I have had only a few examples of it, and from my admittedly limited experience, the wine tends to be very floral. In some vintages it tends toward roses and in other vintages wine from the same producer will tend toward violets. In some ways it has qualities that remind me of Pinot Noir. That’s my best new Italian wine. Try some!

Last night I had my first Vino Nobile de Montepulciano – mmmm. Real nice cherry and plum on the nose, with some white pepper and a hint of undergrowth. Dark fruit explosion on the front end, mid-palate savouriness, slightly herbal and vegetal, nicely full bodied and a lovely long, sweet-savoury finish. Expanding my palate in Italy at the moment.
