QOTD: No new Italian wines lately. My favorite experience of a new Italian wine happened when my husband (then my fiance)and I visited San Gimignano and had our first taste of Brunello di Montalcino. We were hooked!

  • QOTD: I had a Kerner recently from the Venezia region. I am told it is a cross between Muller-Thurgau and Sylvaner. Can anyone confirm this? It was a delicious aperitif wine! Also, one that I revisited for only my second try recently that has insane aromatics is Lacrima da Moro.

    SANT’ANTIMO ROSSO D.O.C. from Fanti…it was like 15 bones!

I would give it a strong 89-90…nice little Sangiovise and Merlot Blend….good juice!

Leif erik Sundstrom, Kerner is a hybrid of Riesling and Sylvaner.

Lovin the short and sweet format.

QOTD: I recently tasted a Zibibbo from Sicily. It is a Muscat clone. The wine was a dessert wine and was fantastic! I’ve also been enjoying some Rosso Piceno Superior.

  • I must give this a try. Glad to see you are paying as much attention to the WLTV viewers as the Upstream viewers. I did not see these in the store so will seek out the Sforzato.

Gary that shirt if f*ck*d up, your not allowed to wear it again OK. And by the way, you have never had blackberries. I know this cause you haven’t been to the Hudson valley and eaten off the bush (Jersey berries don’t count).

  • Last night I had my first Vino Nobile de Montepulciano – mmmm. Real nice cherry and plum on the nose, with some white pepper and a hint of undergrowth. Dark fruit explosion on the front end, mid-palate savouriness, slightly herbal and vegetal, nicely full bodied and a lovely long, sweet-savoury finish. Expanding my palate in Italy at the moment.

Good show, Gary! Keep those obscure Italian wines coming!

QOTD: Lacrima di Morro d’Alba. (That’s the grape variety.) Despite the word “Alba” in the name, the wine comes from Le Marche, not Piemonte. I have had only a few examples of it, and from my admittedly limited experience, the wine tends to be very floral. In some vintages it tends toward roses and in other vintages wine from the same producer will tend toward violets. In some ways it has qualities that remind me of Pinot Noir. That’s my best new Italian wine. Try some!
