QOTD: Majella Sparkling Shiraz is one of the best sparkling wines ive had (I try to look for QPRs!), or german lager. Non alocholic would be some high end lemonade/tonic, or maybe julmust (swedish christmas colaesque drink) as you only get it twice a year (also during easter as pÄskmust)

you should try the Il Conte d’Alba Moscato d’Asti or the Stella Rosa (by the same company). they are both dessert wines, but the stella rosa is a dessert red. Favorite alcoholic sparkling of mine is a Wilson’s Creek Almond Champagne. excellent sparkling for celebrations and sweet. favorite non-alcoholic choice is Canada Dry Ginger Ale.

I have same question like FineWineMike had. What’s your opinion about the Michele Chiarlo Moscato D’asti Nivole? Hoping to see your review of it :)

Bust out a 95 or hell why not a 100 points for the best muscato d’asti ever.
I’m gonna order some for my bubble lovin friends and if it’s half as good as you say. I’m giving it a 99.
As you say, preconcieved something or other should not prevent you from giving out 100 frickin points to the best one you’ve ever had. why can’t a weird wine get a bigger score? Is it only reserved for ugly burgundies????????????

Good stuff. I enjoy Muscato…. Think ill look for the Braida, and a nice price on it, too. QOTD: I havent had enough bubbly wines to make a good decision on that. Have had some nice champanges ( among them a Billecart-Salmon Rose), and some Muscati and Prosecco…. I do love me some root beer though, so Im going with Henry Weinhards root beer.

Fresca is probably my preference, ginger ale, cavas, coke, rootbeer (and I loved Shirley Temples when i was little). Now sometimes if I want a little treat I will pour a tiny bit of chambord at the bottom of my sparkling wine.

I’m currently staying on the west shore Lake Garda in Italy and enjoying some of the amazing thunder to be had here (mostly Gropello blended with more tanic grapes). Have just polished off a bottle of Moscato La Versa “Oltrepo Pavese” (not local to here I know) and was not super impressed. It was ok, I mean we DID finish the bottle but would definitly give a big pass in the future. Not sure if this counts as a Moscato d’Asti per se but although there was a strong scent of peaches and it was like drinking the juice that comes with tinned peaches, it didnt really float our boat. Thought we would love it seeing as we’re big Procecco fans. Anyway, at least I tried it and have an opinion about it now….

I like anything bubbly. My favorites have been a Nino Franco Prosecco and a cherry vanilla soda that Whole Foods carries

I bought the Tintero for my fiancee’s bridal shower and all the girls went NUTS for it. Thought it was pretty good myself too (and I got it for 10 bones not 11 at K&L), my notes were: A steal for $9.99. Sweet pear, green apple and melon flavors with nice spritz and just enough acidity to know it’s there. 89 points.

I had a Brown Brothers Moscato last week, 5.5% and a little Frizzante, but not sparkling. I hated it…..sweet alco-pop, blech! At least one or two of these sounded like they had a bit of character.

QOTD – German Hefewiezenbier, I ove the stuff, closely followed by Belgian Wheat Beers (Hoegaarten, Lefe etc). Sparkling wines don’t really do it for me.

    San Pellegrino water!!
Don’t know if you get that in America but it’s amazing!

QOTD: I don’t have a favorite bubbly anymore but long ago it was Coca Cola from the fast food soda fountain. I don’t drink soda but as a kid I thought Coca Cola from McDonalds was far superior to Coca Cola from a can or bottle.

QOTD: That’s a tough one. Well, the Gruet Sparkling Wine from New Mexico that we served at our wedding was quite enjoyable, although probably because of the event rather then the wine itself. I’d probably have to go with the Pierre Peters Champagne that you recommended last year. It was really, really good.

My best bubbly experience was a bottle of Dom Perignon that I drank with my wife on our honeymoon at Chateau Frontillac on the St Lawrence River in Quebec.

Good show and I just keep adding to the list of new wines to try.

Krug NV, Henriot cuvee des Enchanteleurs Millesime 1995, Palmes d’or 1996, or the dom perignon 1998 (I know you would prefer the 1999 any day, but for me, the 1998, and now the 2000, is drinking beautiful at this point in time. The 1999 in 10 years, yes.)

But what I found with champagne is that the champagnes that I like all have higher age og grapes used. With younger champagnes (Moet chandons average age is 20 months!) you get to many green notes of apples, which I’m not perticularly smitten by. But if you can find a NV from a small producer, that uses older champagnes for their blends (vintage champagnes are obvious, the NVs are a bit tricky), they are the ones I would go for.

What do you think of Nivole Moscato D’ Asti???

I first had a Moscato D’asti on a family vacation in Italy. It was a very hot summer and we stayed in a very small town and it seemed like everyone in the town square sat around having a glass of Moscato D’asti before having dinner. I usually don’t like sweet wines but really enjoy it on a hot summer evening before dinner. Maybe it is just because it evokes memories of a great time. I’ll definitely look for the Braida.
