QOTD: Right now I am drinking 2002 Souverain Mourvèdre. Just came back from Alexander Valley and brought a case of this back with me. I enjoyed it so much that it was my first “case” purchase I’ve ever made. (and I even lugged it back home to NJ!) It was a fluke that they even produced Mourvèdre in 2002… the wrong grape was dropped off to the winery but they decided to produce a small amount anyway, and apparently over the summer they were cleaning out the cellars due to the fact that they are changing the label on their wine and found a few cases of this varietal. I thought that was pretty neat and for me brought the thunder!

Gary & Mott, You KNOW I have two original Vayniac wristbands!!!!!! My nephew Mark, still LOVES to wear them. He puts them on and says “Gary sent these in the mail” over and over and over………… :)

QOTD: What am I drinking? With wine it is a wine that is only available in Canada called Unity. What I am drinking in general, I find myself addicted lately to Stuarts root beer or scary enough Vitamin Water (XXX Flavour – Acai, Pomegranate, Blueberry)

You know I have the original wristband. I rocked when I intro’ed you in Boston!

water…mmmm! And just tried my first wine from India: a Chenin Blanc made by an Italian. Awkward but was a good experience and had some hints of potential.

As an Australian I am surprised we don’t grow more Petite Sirah. Australian prefer the more fruity ‘fluffier’ and bigger and bolder oaky Shiraz instead of Big tannic Petite Sirah. I am sure it’s turn will come.

QOTD: I just had a great Irish Red beer at Taps in Brea, CA.

And I am looking forward to going to The Loft at the Montage in Laguna Beach for my sister’s birthday on Friday. Tons of great wine and an amazing sommelier, (a different) Gary. He’s the man!

Gary, you should do an episode with a cool master sommelier where you two can just jive off each other. I think that would make a great show.

QOTD: Stone Brewing o.’s Arrogant Bastard Ale Oaked. A really interesting beer with an amazing depth of flavor. Highly recommended.

It would be good to see some Aussie Durifs find their way onto the tasting table (Durif is the same as Petit Syrah???)

GREAT SHOW! But, Gary, you have had the Rosenblum Heritage Clone’s Petite Sirah before. I think you scored the last vintage an 89+, or something.

QOTD: I am ADDICTED to Marlborough whites right now – the freshness, the acid, the length. I am also loving ‘04 Sonoma Cabs – the fruit is so pure (Arrowood, HIghland Hawkeye from KJ, etc.) and the tannins are ripping and well placed. I am loving Central Coast and Sonoma Pinots, and also keeping up with all of the CA Rhone stuff I will always love.

    Great show Gary!
QOTD: I’m drinking a lot of white wines lately. Specially Rhone varietals from califoria. I really like them and they expanded my palate a lot.

I hope gen 5 wristbands come out soon… that’ll be my first =D. Gotta start the collection somewhere

QOTD: Riondo Prosecco, I purchased a few bottles and have been going through them like water.

Today was the last day of public JETS traing camp. Maybe we can do a little “training camp” action next year. Hell, it’ll be in Jersey, closer to you (lucky SOB). Can’t believe the JETS have left Hofstra! Now all I have left is the Green and White scrimmage once a year.

QOTD: I’m on a big Long Island port wine kick. I’m liking the Pindar Cab Port, Osprey’s Dominion Port, Pugliese Porto Bello and white port. They’re going great with Nat Sherman Hobart cigars!

I’m in the process of writing a wine book for my financee (to whom I’m marrying in two months) and it’s my goal to eventually try every wine in Temecula CA. So: yes. I have had the opportunity to try many MANY different wines in the last few months. My tasting journal is quickly filling up.

QOTD: Orfila “Hibiscus” Rose’ of Syrrah. Quite good – interesting and fruity, no doubt but very tasty and quite enjoyable.

Thanks for the great show. Always enjoy your work.
Third Gen wrist bands – hope to get a coveted gen 4 at some point.

Great show! I was convinced you were going to grawl, oakmonster, when you tasted the rosenblum. Glad to here they are toning down thier new American oak program. Foppiano is a very nice family and I have had some very good
bottles in the past, at very reasonable prices. Nice to see you give Pet. a little love. When are we going to see a Condrieu episode?

Good show Gary. Nice to see you give some love to lil’ ol’ petit syrah.

QOTD: 3 Rings Barossa Valley Shiraz 2006… fun “weekday wine”.

I like the TYOTD idea too. We should all thank our blessings everyday for what we have.

QOTD – I have been drinking a lot of the naked blended juice drinks that are costing way too much. i think i am going to get some actualy fruit and juice it to see if the price is better using that method. i’ve also been drinking a lot of beer recently.

as for wine – i have been trying to mix it up. i think the last 5 bottles i’ve had were all different varieties and from different countries…
