QOTD: No Portuguese wines yet, but we shall try some now.

Gary, thank you so much for the shoutout regarding my birthday. We are huge Vayniacs and that was a great surprise from my husband to me. Incidentally… I travel to Morris Plains for work occasionally (we live in MI, which is a huge bummer since you can’t ship here currently) and I am hoping at some point you will actually be in the store during the week while I’m there so I can say hello.

    Thanks for another great episode!

Another good show…hope you’ll be getting the So Touriga wine back in stock. Went to order some this morning…sold out :(

QOTD: Never heard of Touriga Nacional before watching the show last night (on my Apple TV)…

QOTD: never had a touriga nacional, but it sounds like my kind of wine.

QOTD: I’ve had several Torigua Nacional based wines…I love them…but they tend to need a little time in the bottle to smooth out a little. Probably one of the best ones that I’ve ever had was the 2001 Quinta do Crasto Reserva old vines…lovely stuff.

Have only had a few TNs but what I have had were really solid. Keep pumpin’ out the content, G…it’s good stuff.

    Hi Gary,

Loved the “So”. Has it at a Portugal wine tasting last year. Highly recommended it. Was listed at $25, so your sale price is a steal. Here is my review of it.

QOTD: Never had one, will look to see if there’s one on the wine list at dinner tonight (I’m thinking unlikely).

    Hello Mott!

    hello,

im a portuguese enophile… or a wine lover. its good to know that the good portuguese wine are breaking the barriers of the wine circuits.

Gary, i saw the video, and i just whant to teel, there are more great portugueses to taste, not so touriga nacional, but also touriga Franca, Baga, malvasia, arinto and many more portuguese grapes, with somo divine flavours.
just look for one of this brands, duas quintas, quinta da loba, esteva, casa de santar, cabriz, periquita, or a Barca Velha 2000. the best recent vintages wore the 2000, 2001 and 2003 years. just give a try.

i recomend also the green wines “vinho Verde” of the loureiro and alvarinho grapes, the some kind of sparkling white wine, and very very fresh, just try it. just look for one of this brands alvarinho, muralhas, ponte de lima coop, quinta da aveleda…

any more info or help about portuguese wines just mail.

    see you

QOTD: The best Touriga Nacional I have found so far is a 2003 Quinta do Vale Meao “Meandro”. Actually, like a lot of Portuguese wines it a blend with Tinto Roriz, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca. (The Portuguese have a load of their own grape varietals, which is fun if you like to explore :-) This was my tasting note from around a year ago.

Deep inky red purple. Well ripened warm spicy dark cherries. There’s a bit of cut grass that was mown a few days ago. (This is maybe the aroma of fresh oak barrels). Even a touch of citrus, like orange. On the palate you get smooth rich fruits with spiky acid and rough strong tannins. Very long finish. This wine needs more time. It’s great now but could last much longer. This is a nice complex wine. 90pts

QOTD : Had one from DAO region. very poor – flabby, almost oxidised tasting – like some bad argentinian malbec I’ve had before. Another I tried had brg=ight fruit but little else to say really. Hard to find values in the UK, I’ve got some Quinta De La Rosa, Duoro Riserva, which I am hoping will bring some thunder, I just feel I need to leave it a while, but I did spy the winery’s second wine available at my local supermarket, so that might be a good intro – I’m determined to find some quality.

You have to try the TN from Quinta do Carneiro, also great stuff. Very good price/relationship during the whole range

I have not tried a Touriga Nacional yet. I will be in the area so I will stop by to pick one up at WL.

Looking forward to the election party!

QOTD: I haven’t, but I think I’ll spend some time today trying to find someone that has it here in Denmark. Although, I must admit, I haven’t seen anything. But you got me pumped!

This wine is sexy…….but not a slut! That goes into my tasting notes hall of fame next “lap-dance on my tongue’ from RP. Also, really funny that after all your fame & notoriety you still have to answer to the wife…pick something up on the way home. Love it.
QOTD – never tried a touriga still wine. And I get to taste lots & lots of wine. I’ll have to ask my distributors about that. That SO sounded really interesting.
ps – sold some of Charles Smith K-Syrah Cougar Hills & the Ovide tonight. Great feedback from the guests. Different tbls.

I tried the So about a week ago…couldnt agree with you more GV! What a fantastic wine. I will absolutely be drinking much more of the Touriga.

Love those Portuguese wines. TN and the blends they’re doing now are rocking. Such good wine for reasonable prices. Wish I could find more of it around.

Gonna suggest this again, maybe it’s not possible, but… Could you put the price-at-taping and your score on the wine list on the page? Would be nice to check those out without having to scan through the episode to remind myself. And, anyway, sometimes my brain just turns off when you say the price. Maybe that’s why my credit card bill is as high as it is? Dang.

You should take more calls during the show, that’s cool. You could do a call-in segment even, old-school for us fogies in the audience.

why does Portuguese wine need french, or american oak, damn the internationalization of wine, damn it all.

yo have you tried that romanescu broccoli?

Touriga Nacional will be a noble grape variety in the near future.
