Just had a 2005 Neal Cabernet the other day. I thought it was excellent. I know you weren’t asking about Cabernet today.. But I don’t give a shit.

I started sampling Portugese wines after an early wine-library recommendation and certainly agree that they bring great flavor at a terrific value. I’ve tried all the wines from Portugal that our local wine shop and grocer carry and keep checking back to see if anything new has appeared. Duoro is a fun region to explore and I was particularly fond of some red blends from that area. When we brought in a Vinho Verde for a staff oyster/wine night it went over quite well.

Wish you could ship the secret packs to Washington State so we could join in with the secret-pack tasting.

Hey Gary, been a while (I’ve so much catching up to do)! Although I know how good the next wave of Portuguese reds are meant to be I was shocked to find out how little of them I’ve drank….
QOTD – no straight Touriga Nacional and only had one blend with Nacional in the mix. I do have 3 Douro blends in the cellar though.

I bought from the Wine Library the CARM Grand Reserve which is supposed to be 100% Touriga Nacional. This wine was super well made and one of the best that I have ever had. At $30.00 bucks, if it was made in France or Cali it would retail for $100.00 bucks. Cheers.

QOTD: No I haven’t gotten to try Touriga Nacional yet (- -);; Unfortunately liquor stores in Tokyo don’t often stock non-desert Portuguese red wines.
Will try one as soon as I get the chance though!

Secret packs in Canada!

QOTD: I just added the 2003 Lavadores de Feitoria Tres Bagos Portuguese red blend from Douro to our wine list. Touriga National, Touriga Franca, and Tinto Roriz.

Great show – again, value from Portugal. Ya gotta love it!!

QOTD: Yes, I’ve had Touriga Nacional since I have had many ports but also a couple of red Douro wines such as Meandro. And, yes, I like them!!

QOTD – I have had a Touriga Nacional in Porto, but I cannot recall a still wine – but I need to go there!

QOTD – I have had a Touriga Nacional in a blend, Barco Negro 2005, a very good red Douro wine.

QOTD: Think I’ve had the grape a few times, but always in Dao blends… I’m a big fan of Portugese wines and stocking up on new bottles is always a highlight of visiting Macao.
