Can cheap-end Cava be compared to high-end Champagne & expect the same quality? I want to see a tasting of Cava priced at the same prices as high-quality Champagne, there we can see the quality-price-value ratio. I don’t feel it’s fair $9 Cava being tasted as an alternative cheap version of Champagne, when Cava is completely unique in it’s own way not simply defined as an imitation. There is some awesome Cava, perhaps it might not be as widely-accessible as other wines, but, beyond convenience they are a treasure waiting to be discovered…

great show. I checked the archives and you seem to have forgotten about a Northern Italy region, franciacorta, where they have excellent champagne-like wines as well. One could even argue that it’s a bit better then cava.

  • I think it’s time to unlurk after some 400 episodes and within the first 1000 episodes. As I watched this episode while flying from Zürich to Luxembourg, passing over Alsace, my QOTD answer, allthough the new years has already passed since this episode was put online, would have to be Cremant d’Alsace. Everyone should try this style of dry sparkling wine, you can’t get a more fresh sparkling experience.

Hi all, any suggestions for just cava tastings rather than cellar tours? We’re familiar with the process and the history of cava, and now want to try breadth and depth of what’s available.
In champagne its quite easy to rock up to smaller houses for tastings – is this acceptable practice in sant sadurni? If so, are there any smaller, more interesting houses you’d recommned?

Any episode that takes us down into the Wine Library shop is a winner in my book. That store looks absolutely unbelievable. I live in the England but that shop just has to be visited. I’ll be making a special trip…..hopefully
