great info on Shiraz! interesting wines for sure, still good value in australia about 10 years later. Great wines coming out of Margaret River, Coonawarra, etc…. love australian wines, as long as they have enough acidity to preserve the freshness and keep the oak in check.

    Gary,
You’re doing fantastic job in trying to educate us.
I really enjoyed CHNdP and wine room episodes.
I predict that one day we’ll see you on ch 13 or food network.
    Now, actual comments:
Please keep the spit bucket off the table and don’t submerge your head into it. If possible keep it off the air-we don’t need to see it.
Also, I would like to see prices of wines that you describing written somewhere.
Please dedicate one episode to wine tasting, how to taste wine properly-the hole procedure swirling, sniffing, spitting etc.
    Thank you.

    Hi

I like the spit bucket on the table and your head way down in side. The bucket looks very professional. The only bad spit bucket that I have seen was a clear one.

I like the descriptions. They are short and to the point. After the tasting, showing the possible descriptions for a wine from the aroma wheel would be very educational as a summery of what to look for in varietals.

It’s good to see that you actually read the comments take the viewers’ comments and recommendations seriously. Good job.

I’d like to see a tasting of some Amarones and Ripassos when you get a chance.

  • Dear Gary,
I love what you and The Wine Library are doing with your marketing, and hope you will continue.
    the series.
It is interesting, informative, simple and designed for all wine enthusiasts not just the elitist wine snobs who intimidate the new age wine drinkers.
I think you are way ahead of the curve with this innovative approach and applaud your use of technology as a tool to bring in a younger crowd, I only hope I can emulate your results myself with my marketing efforts.
If you would like something autographed by Chad Pennington, please let me know and I’ll arrange for it.
    Best, Steve DiDonato

    Good morning Gary,

This is the second time I’m leaving a reply. The first time I replied, I basically just wanted to thank you for starting this video blog on wine. I reiterate my praise and thankfulness here.

Secondly, I noticed that you are taking great note of the feedback left and incorporating it into each subsequent episode. This is laudable and shows how much this project means to you.

On that note however, I hope you don’t ever get discouraged by the viewers commenting on ways to improve your blog. It seems like everyone has a suggestion on how to improve and it may seem a bit overwhelming at times. This is because everyone has different tastes and preferences and you’re not going to be able to please everyone all the time. It may be especially frustrating when you see two comments which are completely mutually exclusive options – which seems to be common even in the relatively few episodes you’ve done so far (for example – today two different viewers having two different takes on the spit bucket).

Just keep up the good work. Take those bits of advice that make sense to you and ignore those that don’t. Keep in mind that your Video Blog is already loved by many who have viewed it, and however you seek to proceed will continue to be watched and enjoyed by an ever growing population.

    Again, merci beaucoup.

    Gary and Winelibrary TV staff,

Excellent job on today’s episode! Like other comments before me, I am glad to see that you are listening to the feedback and incorporating them into the shows.

Also, the spit bucket doesn’t bother me.

  • I liked the white sheet for contrast showing the wine color, but I found that your white shirt did as good a job or better…

just stay away from the dark shirts, dark wine combo like in episode 1 and 3…

Favorite line: About the Kangarilla wine nose… “Cotton candy meets Big League Chew”… what a crack!

    Hey Gary,
My friend sent me this link bc of the Shiraz episode, he knows I love Shiraz. Really great job. I was just shocked that Yellowtail was last on your list. I havent tried the others, I will definitely get a 2UP. But Yellowtail is my favorite, although, I really only prefer their Shiraz Reserve, that really has a lot more body and structure than the regular (there really is a difference).
But regardless, great job. The white background for the color of the wine really doesnt show up too well online.
    Good job

I bought a bottle of the Two Up last week & just had to try it after watching your review. I must say that you were right on. It’s so dense & jammy. Such a long finish & full-bodied. I’m ordering a case today. Great job Gary & WL. Bravo!

ps..The guy behind the camera sounds like a stalker!

Gary, you are to be lauded and thanked for brilliant videos. Your passion drives your videos (as your knowledge steers them). Makes me wish you had a wine bar at the store.
I agree with Guy’s comments about feedback… don’t let it ever get the better of the show. Having said that i would like to add a few points:
â?¢ Keep it intimate and informal: I don’t care what’s on the wall or what you wear.
â?¢ In the spirit of intimacy, bring the camera much closer so that you and your bottles fill the screen.
â?¢ Have some sustained close-ups of the labels.
    Best wishes.

We love Wine TV….my husband and I watch it together and we just laugh…Gary you are not only a wonderful marketeer, but also very entertaining. We also would love to have a “session” on exactly how to taste the wine and how long to open the wine prior to tasting…we have often heard you say…this wine has been open for 90 minutes. We can’t wait that long to drink it…would be torture….ha ha ha!!!

    Keep up the great work!!!

  • Gary,

Terrific job! While you’re not “quite” as polished as the “king” Robert Parker, you’ve certainly come a long way since the good old days of the mid 90’s. Your take on the wines as well as your descriptors are spot on and your honesty and presentation of these Shiraz based wines were and are tastefully done. Now, keep me in mind for a future guest appearance on the higher end Australian offerings. Your “Bud”

Great one on shiraz. The white paper background is a good idea. However, you have to have the camera zoom in on the wine glass when you’re doing it, or don’t bother, because without the zoom, it looks like a bottle of ink. You can’t appreciate the color with this quality of video. You may need to add a little more light also when holding the wine up to the white background.

    Keep it up!

Hi Gary, just wanted to let you know we(my husband Tony and I) really love your show. We both enjoy wine every night.I love Zens and am looking forward for the Italian wines we preordered. Tony has written you several times with comments. I just wanted to let you know we get a lot from watching your show, but we wish it was longer Thanks Tami H

  • It only took five episodes to put that lame Super Bowl III poster up.
Yellow Tail is crap, not because you might come across a fair bottle every now and again, but because there’s no way they can possibly control quality…there’s just too much bottle variation.

I’ve tried 2 wines from this episode. One of them I liked, one I didn’t like. Without giving anything away the bad one starts with a Y and ends with an L and there’s an “ellowtai” in the middle. 😉 The Two Up just went into my shopping list.

I saw the advertisementin the LA TIMES, and have watched several episodes since then. Thank you for the ad. This is a great site. As a big fan of Shiraz, I enjoyed this one very much. I am headed up to get the Two Up today.

I see the Yellow Tail is getting slammed. I like this wine. I have had the 2003, 2004 and the 2005. The 2004 was the best of the three. I am surprised Gary didn’t pick up the vanilla in the ’04, very strong, I thought. Maybe Brandon M is right, too much bottle variation. I can get this Shiraz for $3.99 / bottle so it’s an amazing value for having a bunch of friends over, etc. The ’05 brings a tabacco flavor to the party, once it opens up. The ’03 is just flabby; much weaker than the ’04 or ’05. I’m anxious to try the 2Up. Thanks Gary. It’s January, ’07, so I’m time travelling back to previous episodes, sorry we didn’t meet sooner.

It’s fun to go back and watch the old episodes. Geez! It was nice to see some of the wines that you did this day and I’ll go try to see if there are any stores in the area selling Two Up.

Sorry….did I hear you say YellowTail and value in the same sentance??????
They should pay me to drink that paint thinner, mixed with raw sugar and koolaid, then layered with rat piss…….
Don’t get me wrong….no pre-conceved notions here, just I have drank that wine at so many parties where people think they are in the know and they so aren’t. It makes me sick that people think this is an experimentation wine?
