I’ve been really surprised by the high quality and affordably priced wines that are coming from S. African. Definitely a market to watch!

  • Took the recommendation and bought a half-case. Can’t wait to give it a try!

I liked the addition of a question/answer portion of the vlog – I know it’s not a live question/answer, but at least it’s a direct response.

  • Ok, gave it a whirl. Very big white. Strong upfront grapefruit is a definite, but I also have a strong sense of mango on the nose and palate. I recommend that others give it a try – for 8 bucks what do you have to lose?

(also tried the Reyka water – although it’s good, Voss is still better in my opinion)

How much does the location of where the wine comes from matter when choosing a good wine? I have noticed since watching different episodes that it is always mentioned and talked about.
(I can’t wait to try this selection!)

Thanks for tasting note. Interesting you like this wine so much. I live in the Cape winelands for 6 months a year, and taste many hundreds of Cape wines annually.
The Cape makes some of the best SB in the world,my favourites being Cape Point,Steenberg,Fryers Cove and Iona.
Good to get comment on Cape wines, which IMHO are some of the best value in the world.

My friend swears by South African wines. I’ve tried the De Toren Fusion V, and some of the Fairview wines. I liked them. The Simonsig just went on my shopping list.

2 or 3 cases out of the 5 that you have at your house? You only have that much wine at your house? No way.

I made it in the top 10 again too.

    $.24

I’ve had only a few South African wines and have been very happy with them. They’re a little harder to find just anywhere, so you really need to go someplace that specializes in wine to find some good selection for that region it seems. I hope that they become more popular.

  • I’ve only met one Sauv Blanc I didn’t like. I’ll have to find this one.

Again tasting a wine you’ve already had – tisk tisk Gary! 😉 Actually I think it stinks that there are wines you drink and love now, and don’t share it with the Vayniacs. You don’t have to retaste them – just give them a quick shout out!

Wow, a very laid back greeting off the bat.

Is that the predecessor of the big-ass glass?

I think it’s nicer when you taste a wine for us that you haven’t tasted before. That way, we feel more a part of it and it’s not just a review for you.

Watched 12 episodes in a row and I’m still lovin’ it!

    get fa’shnikin.

Big shift from the current shows. Seems like a lot of these early shows are wines you have had multiple times.

Have had Simonsig in the past, but wasn't blown away by it.

Your voice is starting to get closer to the loudness of 2010,,,,I have not had much luck with South Afician wine, have tried some at tasting events and most really sucked, were terrible..will try and keep an open mind in future. http://www.winelx.com

  • Have not had any white South African's so far….. Gary turns up the volume….. Nice.

In today’s times, people are turning to the inexpensive wines, and finding better wines than their usual wine budget. It is easy to experiment with less expensive wine, and at the very least, you can always cook with it!

Love Chenin Blanc and S. Africa is supposed to make some decent Chenin, but in my experience was not close to Vouvray in France. So not drinking too much south african wine but wish I could find some decent stuff from there in Qc.

Man top 25 again! no love in the early episodes. I have to say that i still have not found a south african wine that brings thunder to my world! just sayin
