Woohooo, I think I’m the first one to post. Wow, that means WineLibrary ships me a free bottle of wine, right?

Arg! Not #1, guess because I waited to see the podcast first. Love the episode … BTW, I think “Meritage” is pronounced rhyming with “Heritage” (= Merit + Heritage) rather than with the “French” pronunciation that comes so naturally …

Can’t say I have a favorite movie … Maybe “His Girl Friday”?

Here’s one article on what Gary was talking about.

Seems like a pretty cool invention if it works the way it’s supposed to.

Favorite movie….hm…..it’s between The Usual Suspects, Saving Private Ryan, and Zoolander 🙂

Good episode Gary. I definitely enjoy seeing the occasional episode on higher end wines. In the coming weeks, I would love to see episodes on Spanish reds, Italian reds (namely the big B’s), and of course a Riesling episode (with the different categories) would be great!

Favorite movie? Tough one, but I am a huge fan of Planes, Trains & Automobiles. That is a classic.

  • Well, it’s definitely not Sideways. Great movie…just not a Pinot fan.

Honestly, I have to confess that my favorite movie of all time is T2. I know, I know. I’m a democrat and I voted against him in the recall election, but something about T2 really engaged me. It’s a highly symbolic movie. A psycho, a juvenile delinquent and a biker save the world from a cop. Great special effects (particularly for the time), big cyborg, indestructible liquid villain, mini-guns, explosions, time travel…what else could a guy want in a movie? Well, yeah, sex. But beside that?

I know it’s not high brow, but it’s fun to watch. To me, movies are about turning off the brain and escaping temporarily from the world, so I’m not going to pick something intellectually engaging. Not pretty, but at least I’m being honest.

I’m a movie junkie. Just turnd my basement into a theatre of sorts (well, atleast I got KA speakers, as much as I could get out of teh lil’lady). So I love this question.

My favorite movie: It’s a Wonderful Life. Quintessential movie depicting some of America’s greatest days. Everything about it is just perfect- great cinematography, casting and acting, story line, … a true classic. Similarly, I love Cinema Paradiso, editor’s version.

Gary, I predict your favorite (or one of your favorites) is Scarface.

To the audience and Gary… I propose a new points system- the VaynerNod. A VaynerNod is a Gary Vaynerchuk head nod, or nods, made while and after tasting. 1 nod for an equivalent 85 pointer, 5 nods for an equivalent 90 pointer, 10 nods for an equivalent 95 pointer… that is, one VaynerNod for each point above 85.

    Keep up the good work.

My favourite movie – Aguirre: The Wrath of God

Aguirre leads a Spanish expedition into the jungle of South America in search of El Dorado.
Simply amazing pictures, and a story with deep thoughts.
    Excellent acting by Klaus Kinski.

Really enjoy the the TV tastings. Keep it up. The Powers Meritage sounded interesting. Looked it up on WS site though and it had a 78 a rating. 3-5 points I can understand, but 12-13 points I don’t. Looks like we are talking about the same wine. Can you help me reconcile the differance? Thanks

Without question, the greatest movie of all time (and you’ve probaly never heard of it) is “The Party Animal.” Sure, its a 80’s “B movie,” but if you don’t laugh for an hour and a half every time you watch it, then you have no sense of humor.

  • Russ you have got it…”The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” is on top of my list but I could watch almost any Sergio Leone movie every day of the week. I have a “theater” set up in my basement where I watch movies every morning while on my trainer (Blockbuster Online Membership).
Nice episode Gary, I like the sports hits too!
As for the point system “The VaynerNod” works for me too. One change though…If upon the second taste of the same wine Gary swallows, then we have ourselves a “must buy”. }:)

I think that “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly”, “Apocalypse Now” and “The Godfather” are the three best movies ever made. But my favorite movie, that’s easy: “Planet of the Apes” (1968). No movie, before or since, has had the amount of social commentary in that film.

Now let’s talk about vintage port…

Casablanca. I have it memorized. I just drank a 1999 Miner Family Cabernet last week and it was great. Too bad about 2003.

  • what’s up gary…wine robot eh…sounds interesting. glad to ehar you got moved without any snags…let’s see….favorite movie. this is such a hard thing…that is almost as hard as favorite wine…i mean, different days bring different favorites….right? well, i am not going to go with a movie that ‘became my favorite’…instead i am going to go with first impressions….a movie that i saw that i really loved the first time. i think it would be between “city of lost children” and “life is beautiful”…one was so great in a quirky way, the other was so powerful in a touching way…i really liked that movie “winter passing”

My favorite movie could probably change 5 minutes from now, but at the moment I’d say “Hannah and Her Sisters.” I think it’s Woody Allen’s best fusion of comedy and existential panic, even moreso than Annie Hall.

Then again, it’s pretty hard to beat Dolemite: The Human Tornado.
