ok.. So.. When GV started I took a leap of faith.. I bought the El Nido Clio. What could I say? A guy starting a wine video blog who owns a wine store. Why wouldn’t he trump it up.

Today June 11th 2011 I opened one of the 6 bottles I bought. Wholly CRAP!

Strong fruit, leather flavor.. Freaking AWESOME!

If anyone wants the 2003, I have 2 bottles left!

Thanks Gary V!

Gary…..another Great show….I got scared that you might have forgotten and I would have to get through my work day with no Wine Library TV….but alas, Gary to the rescue and saved me from boredom. Cheers Gary

Good episode. I was just in WL on Saturday and actually bought a bottle of the El Nido Clio. Now I’m glad I did! Probably won’t be any left the next time I come in!

Nikolai Volkoff!!! Wow a blast from the past. I remember the wars he had with Hacksaw Jim Duggan!! Him & his 2×4…
I’ve been meaning to try the Clio. 15.5% alc is even more incentive.

Great show. Whats up with the hair?

    Hey GV,

I had a really solid barbaresco about 6 – 9 months ago, and i recall it was a 1999 at about $25 retail but i cant recall the producer…it was a classic old world style wine…

Thanks for tasting the Clio- i’ve had the 2002 which was also awesome even for an “off vintage”…and i bought 3 of the ’03 simply based upon how good the ’02 was….now i’m thinking i better get a case-why spend $50 or $75 on California juice when Spain is putting out so many great wines?? This will be a great wine to build a vertical with!!

One more thing….You need a haircut dude!!

Good episode Gary. I definitely enjoy seeing another person’s opinion of the same wines that are rated by the “big guns” of the wine industry like RP. I will try and check out a couple of those wines you were really impressed with today.

As far as barbaresco goes, I am definitely a fan so I hope you do an episode soon! While I have not had that many different ones, the one that stands out was a 1998 Giuseppe Cortese that I believe I may have even bought from WL! It was very impressive. Have you ever tried that specific one?

Sorry to pile on Gary, but what happened to your hair? Bad hair day? Hurricane Ernesto? A call from your stockbroker about your options selling short?

QOD – I had a Barbaresco a few months back just to give one a try, I dont remember what it was..under $20 I am sure, I was not a fan, was too dry and earthy for me…maybe my taste is just not there yet.

the planned episodes I am looking forward to….#1 heat, #2 value quality champagne

maybe sometime you could have all of us vote for the a topic for the next day or week, the most votes wins..just a thought

and on the hair maybe you were going for the ace ventura look??

    Gary:

I had a great Barbaresco but I can’t remembet the producer. What’s up with the Hair, we’re you catching up on some ZZZZ’z under the desk. Like George Costanza!

If you say a wine will hold for 10 to 20 years. What would be the best time to drink it. Should I play it safe and drink it earlier at 10 years. Is it 10-20 years from the vintage /release date or WLTV espisode Air date.

    Great Show!

Am I really not allowed to watch WLTV anymore? My brother is a huge football fan — maybe that will make up for shortcomings.

QOD: Never had a Barbaresco — but definitely looking forward to an episode devoted to them. I am guessing your answer to the QOD will be, “yes” and then you will come out with the best one you remember.

As to your hair, I can only imagine you are experimenting with “product”. Good for you. Don’t listen to the spoil sports on this website, your wild hair and personality are part of what make you uniquely you. I really enjoyed the episode.

Gary, Why only taste wines that are already rated high? I hardly ever buy because of scores and find very enjoyable(and sometimes fantastic) wines that I later find to have received low-mid 80 scores. I think if you put 2003 J. Lohr 7 Oaks Cab Paso Robles in a blind tasting(as a ringer) of Napa Cabs 2-3 times the price, you would be suprised. No great reviews on this one.

I like Barbarescos. Though the last one I had was a magnum of 1998 Sottimano (from WL)…I wasn’t overwhelmed with it considering WS scored it a 93. They suggested drinking after 2006…I had it earlier this year and thought it may have already peaked. But what do I know.

Anyway…I like the messy hair Gary. Stick with it.

Last thing…what does aloe taste like? I may be up for licking a rock, but I’m not going to taste aloe.

92pts. on this one. Thanks for helping me narrow down some of these top rated wines.

I had a Barbaresco a few weeks ago at Otto, but can’t remember the name – my wife & I found it to be very enjoyable.

Hey, by the way – how did the party go this weekend – how were your wine selections received?

Gary, GREAT EPISODE. thanks very much for accepting my recommendation that you provide your answer to the previous episode’s QOD…just for clarity, I was recommending that you do this each and every episode (when it applies). BTW, I saw other viewers also asked for this.

I thought you were going to seque into my Gary Vaynerchuk “The CHUK’s GREATEST HITS” spreadsheet….I’ll keep waiting…..patiently. Let me know when you’re going to do that so I can send you the latest version.

I know the hair was a joke (like the class of water)

LOVED your opening, “I’m your host, Gary Vayner…….Chuk” love the little pause. Again reminds me of Christopher MAD DOG Russo’s opening. LUV IT.

Gary, Question for the SPREADSHEET….what type of wine is the “El Nido Clio”. On the WL website it is listed as “Other Spanish Red”….is it a meritage or something else more specific?

Also, I concur w/ Jason R…..I was anxiously awaiting your report on your 1st party in the new diggs.

Great (and timely) episode, although it seemed like you were on uppers for this one. One which I am sure many people will find value as an independant (and not all glowing) review of the ubiquitous Robert Parker.

QOTD: Never had a Barbaresco, but always looking to expand my wine horizons.

Would still like to see another wine sampler for this reason.

Excellent episode! Am a very big fan of WL (am a local New Jerseyan), WLTV, and now a first-time commentor!

Had my first barbaresco this past weekend at Felidia’s in Manhattan– a 1995 Ugo Lequio San Cristoforo (?). Smooth, great fruit, soft tannins… even the wife likes it! Excellent with my veal tenderloin. This was one of the more inexpensive barbarescos on the wine list but thoroughly enjoyed it. I am now a fan and will try your ’98 Ugo from Gallina. Will be very interested in your blog tomorrow. I give the restaurant excellent ratings as well.

Question- how do you handle red wine once it has been opened, to enjoy the following day– recap with the original cork? do you recommend vacuvins? refrigerate or room air?
